Sealing device for a bearing intended to be mounted on a shaft The main patent relates to a sealing device for a bearing intended to be mounted on a shaft, that is to say comprising a ring in elastomer, of V-section, intended to be clamped radially in direct contact with the surface of the shaft and axially, by its respective lips, in direct contact with a radial surface of the bearing and a shoulder integral with the shaft, and an annular part more rigid than the ring which is centered in contact with it and comprises a cylindrical wall surrounding at least one of the lips of the ring over at least part of its axial dimension.
The object of the invention is to improve this device in the sense in particular of greater efficiency. The sealing device according to the invention is characterized in that the annular part comprises a skirt which is arranged overlap with respect to the adjacent end of the pad and which follows a radial rigidity rib penetrating into the hollow of the pad. V of the elastomer ring.
Compared to the device of the main patent, in which the lip resting on the pad remains partially uncovered, such an arrangement obviously offers the advantage of more complete protection since it protects the two lips from any mechanical action. such as that which could result from the projection of a violent jet of water.
An embodiment of the device which is the subject of the invention will be described, by way of example, with reference to the appended drawing, in which the single figure is a sectional view of the device.
The device shown seals between the cup 3 of a needle bearing fitted into the bore 21 of a gimbal jaw 22 and the spider 10 of the gimbal, the journal 11 of which is capped by the cup 3.
The elastomer ring 2 is, on the one hand, clamped radially on the outer surface of the journal 11, on the other hand, clamped axially by its lips 1, 7 between the rim 3a of the cup 3 and the shoulder 10a. This ring is protected by a semi-rigid annular piece 24, for example of plastic material, and centered relative to the flexible ring 2 by a cylindrical part 26 which surrounds, with radial clamping, the lip 7 of the ring and has a diameter slightly less than the internal diameter of the bore 21.
The cylindrical part 26 is extended axially by a skirt 27 which flares out slightly and the upper part of which covers a certain distance the lower end of the cup 3, thus completely protecting the upper lip 1 of the ring 2 .
The skirt 27 is thin enough to be able to be radially deformed, which allows the protective part 24, benefiting from the guidance of the cylindrical part 26 centered on the ring 2, to pass inside the bore 21, in order to take its place around the journal 11 and in abutment on the shoulder 10a, before mounting the cup 3.
The overall rigidity of the part 24 is however ensured by a radial rib 28 which is formed at the point of transition between the skirt 27 and the cylindrical part 26 and penetrates into the triangular space formed between the two lips 1, 7.
The radial rib 28 ensures the axial holding of the part 24, on the one hand by preventing contact of the skirt 27 with the jaw 22, which contact could lead to the destruction of this skirt, on the other hand by making it possible to avoid make the shoulder 10a play the role of a stop, which means that the diameter of this shoulder can, as shown, be reduced to the diameter of the lip 7, which facilitates the introduction by tilting of the spider 11 inside the jaw 22.
The radial rib 28 can also ensure, by resting its edge in the bottom of the groove formed between the two lips 1, 7, the centering of the protective part 24, instead of the contact between the. cylindrical part 26 and the lip 7. It will be noted that the assembly of the device is simple since it comprises a sub-assembly constituted by the elastomer ring 2 and the protective part 24, which can be produced on an automatic machine, this sub-assembly being mounted in a single operation on the journal during assembly of the universal joint.
