Druckverfahren

Polyvinylacetat, Polyvinylchlorid, Polyvinyliden chlorid, Polyvinylacetale, Polyvinylalkohol,
Printing process
It is known that non-textiles present in webs
To print molded bodies and hooked structures with printing machines which have engraved printing rollers. In recent times, the so-called transfer printing has also become known, in which the dyes by diffusion and
Sublimation of printed intermediate or auxiliary carriers, especially paper webs, are transferred to the substrate. Such transfer printing processes are described in French patent no. 1,223,330 and in Swiss patent no. 476,893.
It has now been found that this process can also be used for printing non-textile substrates containing nickel-modified polypropylene and other complex-forming metal compounds.
The invention therefore relates to a process for printing non-textile moldings and
Sheet-like structures, according to the transfer printing process, which is characterized in that the sheet-like structures which contain complex-forming metals-releasing compounds are mixed with sublimable dyes or dye formers which, together with the metals, form metal complex dyes, and optionally at the same time in the same process step with other dyes and / or optical brighteners below
Use of intermediate or auxiliary carriers printed.
The new process is ideal for
Printing on substrates based on natural, semi-synthetic and synthetic materials. Examples of substrates include cellulose materials such as films made from regenerated cellulose, and protein materials such as leather.
Furthermore, materials such as polyacrylonitrile and copolymers of acrylonitrile and other vinyl compounds, such as acrylic esters, acrylamides, vinyl pyridine, vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride, copolymers of dicyanethylene and vinyl acetate, as well as acrylonitrile block copolymers, polyurethanes, cellulose tri and 21/2 acetate, synthetic polyamides such as poly ( hexamethylene adipic acid amide) or polyamide 6.6, poly (w-caprolactam) or polyamide 6, poly (hexamethylene sebacic acid amide) or polyamide 6.10, and poly (11-amino-undecanoic acid) or polyamide 11, aromatic polyesters such as those made from terephthalic acid and Ethylene glycol or 1, S-dimethylolcyclohexane, and copolymers of terephthalic and isophthalic acid and ethylene glycol, polyester amides, polycarbonates, polyureas, polysulfones,
ionomeric plastics, as well as hard and soft polyvinyl chloride, but especially polyolefins, such as polypropylene and polyethylene of various densities.
The new printing process can be applied to all non-textile materials, provided they are in a suitable form and contain one or more grain-forming metals in a suitable form. A special application is the printing of anodized aluminum.
The substrates can be in a wide variety of forms, but preferably as flat structures, such as films or papers, which, for. B. can be cut as webs or ge, also as bags, foil-wrapped articles, bottles and cans.
Mixtures of these materials can also be used, e.g. B. impact-resistant polystyrene can be printed.
Coatings such as fabric covers made of polyvinyl chloride or polyurethane can also be printed on the side facing away from the fabric.
The materials to be printed can also be in already colored or printed form, and the dyes used for this purpose can be of the most varied of types. If, for example, it is a question of foils made of polyesters or synthetic polyamides which are pre-colored with known 1: 1-chromium complexes of azo-resin, the corresponding mixed complexes are formed on the substrate when the process according to the invention is printed, which are often characterized by interesting color tones.
All divalent and polyvalent metals of groups 1 to VIII of the periodic system can be used as complex-forming metals, in particular Al, Co, Or, Cu, Fe, Mg, Ma, Mo, Ni, Sn, Ti, V, W, Zn, Zr, Sb, but also Au and the monovalent Ag. For example, nickel is of particular importance for polyolefins.
The metal compounds can be present as inorganic or organic salts or in any other suitable form, the specific nature of the metal compounds being able to vary depending on the substrate.
Organic hydrophobic films are preferably prepared for the transfer printing according to the invention by incorporating the metal compounds into the spinning or extrusion masses before the molding or films are produced. Polyamides e.g. B. baskets are either pickled with metal salts and / or contain the metal-releasing substance in the mass. Polypropylene can also be pickled with chromyl chloride, for example.
As complex-forming dyes or dye formers, compounds of a wide variety of chemical rule classes come into question, such. B. hydroxyanthraquinones, hydroxynaphthoquinones, o-hydroxy-nitroso compounds and preferably azo dyes.
Among the azo dyes, mention should be made of (a) o hydroxy-azo dyes which form structures of the type during metallization

Particularly suitable optical brighteners are mono- and bisazole and benzoxazole derivatives. So z. B. the brighteners of the formula

For the purposes of the invention, sublimable dyes are those dyes and dye formers which, based on the method for determining the fastness to dry fixing and pleating of dyeings and prints (dry heat) of the Swiss Association of Standards, Norm SNV 95 8 33/1961, have sufficient staining ( Staining). In the SNV 95 8 33/1961 standard, a sample of the dyed material in close contact with an uncolored material for which the dye has a good affinity according to conventional dyeing methods is determined under a pressure of 40 g + 10 g per cm-2 Test temperatures heated for 30 sec.
When selecting the dyes suitable for the process according to the invention, however, a printed or colored auxiliary substrate, such as, for. B. paper, and an uncolored film as the substrate to be colored.
The dyes capable of complex formation are used before complex formation, i.e. in a metal-free form. The temperature depends on the thermal resistance, respectively. according to the flow behavior of the substrate to be printed in the transfer process. For example, with soft PVC you work at temperatures between 80 and 1400, with polypropylene at temperatures between 120 and 1550.
Depending on the substrate, one also works at temperatures lower than 800 or at temperatures higher than 2200 if there is sufficient staining (staining) on the substrate in contact with the dye on the auxiliary carrier.
According to the invention, dyes are also used which, after a heating time of less than 30 seconds and up to 2 minutes and / or both at lower and higher contact pressure than specified in the standard, or even without contact pressure, adequately bleed the uncolored substrate (stain).
It does not matter whether the dye sublimates in the physical sense or penetrates into the substrate in a state other than the gaseous state if it only transfers from the auxiliary carrier to the substrate.
The intermediate or auxiliary printing media required for transfer printing can be any desired, preferably non-textile structures, preferably flat structures based on cellulose, especially paper, but also films made of regenerated cellulose, which are printed with aqueous, aqueous-organic, but in particular practically anhydrous organic printing inks (solutions, dispersions or Emulsions) can be printed in one or more colors in the desired pattern or as a full area.
Metal foils can also be used as a print carrier, but paper is mainly used as a print carrier.
The dyes are applied by printing and dried, or they are applied by impregnating or dyeing the intermediate carrier in the dye solution or dispersion (e.g. in the dye bath) and dried.
The intermediate carriers can also be printed on both sides, whereby different colors and / or patterns can be selected for the two sides. To avoid the use of a printing machine, the printing inks can e.g. B. be sprayed onto the auxiliary carrier by means of a spray gun. Particularly interesting effects are obtained if more than one shade is printed or sprayed onto the auxiliary carrier at the same time. Certain patterns, e.g. B. can be obtained by using stencils, or artistic patterns with the brush. If the auxiliary carriers are printed, a wide variety of printing techniques can be used, e.g. B. flat printing processes (e.g. offset), letterpress printing (e.g. letterpress, flexographic printing), gravure printing (e.g. Rouleaux printing, rotogravure printing, intaglio printing), screen printing methods (e.g. screen printing, film printing) or electrostatic printing methods.
These chips are obtained by punching or cutting the above-mentioned printed or colored intermediate carriers into appropriately shaped sections, e.g. B. to flowers, rings, triangles, circular cutouts, stars, stripes, etc. But you can also dye or impregnate the uncolored auxiliary carrier chips with the dye or dyes, eg. B. by immersion in an appropriate dye solution or dispersion.
You can print the same or different motifs on both sides of a film or other substrate simultaneously or one after the other. A whole paper web impregnated with dye can also be applied to the film to be printed over the scattered paper shreds, thus achieving a reserve effect in which the reserved areas are printed at the same time.
A special reserve effect is obtained if, together, or optionally instead of the colored intermediate carrier chips, uncolored chips, e.g. B.
Shredded paper used.
When using dispersions, the dyes dispersed in the printing ink must mainly have a particle size of <10 m, preferably <2 l. In addition to water, there are practically all organic solvents which boil at atmospheric pressure at temperatures below 2200 ° C., preferably below 1500, and which have sufficient solubility or dispersibility for the dyes used and sufficient solubility or emulsifiability for the binders used.
Examples of useful organic solvents include the following: aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons, for example n heptane or benzene, xylene or toluene, halogenated hydrocarbons such as methylene chloride, trichlorethylene or chlorobenzene, nitrated aliphatic hydrocarbons such as nitropropanes, aliphatic amides such as dimethylformamide or their mixtures Glycols such as ethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol monoethyl ether or diethyl ether, diethyl carbonate, dimethyl carbonate or esters, such as ethyl acetate, propyl acetate, butyl acetate, ss-ethoxyethyl acetate, aliphatic or cycloaliphatic ketones, for example methyl ethyl alcoholic ketone, methyl alcohol, cyclohexyl ketone, cyclohexyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, e.g. Ketones, for example methyl ethyl ketone,
and an aromatic hydrocarbon, in particular toluene and alcohols such as methanol, ethanol and preferably n-propanol, iso-propanol, n-butanol, tert-butanol, sec-butanol or benzyl alcohol; Mixtures of several solvents which contain at least one solvent from one of the classes mentioned are also suitable. It is advantageous to use practically anhydrous printing inks.
Particularly preferred solvents are esters, ketones or alcohols such as butyl acetate, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, ethanol, iso-propanol or butanol.
In addition to the dye or brightener and solvent (diluent), the printing inks (inks) to be used according to the invention preferably also contain at least one binder that acts as a thickener of the printing batch and as an at least temporary binder of the dye on the material to be printed. Synthetic, semi-synthetic and natural resins are suitable as binders of this type, namely both polymerization products and polycondensation products and polyaddition products.
In principle, all resins and binders commonly used in the paint and printing ink industry can be used, as they are, for. B. in the paint raw material tables by Karsten (4th edition Hanover 1967) and in the work on lacquer synthetic resins by Wagner and Sarx (4th edition Munich 1959) are described. When working with solvent-based printing inks, it is preferred to use physically drying resins, i.e. H. Resins that do not react chemically (or crosslink) in the air or with themselves, but which leave a dry film after removal of the solvent. It is advantageous to use resins which are soluble in the solvents used.
If you work with solvent-free or low-solvent printing inks, it is preferable to use chemically drying binders, such as. B. oxidatively drying oils, oil varnishes and oil-modified alkyd resins, or two or more chemically reacting components.
Suitable resins are, for example, the following: rosin and its derivatives, hydrogenated rosin, di- or polymerized rosin, rosin esterified with monohydric or polyhydric alcohols; rosin resin modified with resin formers such as acrylic acid and butanediol or maleic acid and pentaerythritol; the soluble phenolic resins modified with rosin and resins based on acrylic compounds, maleinate resins, oil-free alkyd resins, styrenated alkyd resins, vinyltoluene-modified alkyd resins, alkyd resins with synthetic fatty acids, linseed oil alkyd resins, ricineal alkyd resins, castor oil alkyd resins, and, as well as, acrylic oil alkyd resins, and oil alkyd resins, as well as acrylic oil alkyd resins, acrylic oil alkyd resins, and oil alkyd resins, acrylic oil alkyd resins, soybean oil alkyd resins, and oil alkyd resins, acrylic oil alkyd resins, and oil alkyd resins, acrylic oil alkyd resins, and oil alkyd resins and oil varnishes.
Furthermore, terpene resins, polyvinyl resins such as
Polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinyl acetals, polyvinyl alcohol,
Polyvinyl ethers, mixed and graft polymers with various vinyl monomers, polyacrylic acid resins, acrylic resins, polystyrenes, polyisobutylenes, polyesters based on phthalic acid, maleic acid, adipic acid, sebacic acid, etc., naphthalene-formaldehyde resins, furan resins, ketone resins, aldehyde resins, urethanes that harden at high temperatures (especially at high temperatures) , Epoxy resins (especially resin-hardener mixtures that only harden at elevated temperatures) and their precondensates.
Preliminary products of unsaturated polyester resins, diallyl phthalate prepolymers, polyolefins such as polyethylene or polypropylene wax, indene and coumarone indene resins, carbamide and sulfonamide resins, polyamide and polyester resins, silicone resins, rubber and its derivatives, such as cyclo and chlorinated rubber, but above all cellulose derivatives such as cellulose derivatives (Nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate and the like), and especially cellulose ethers such as methyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, cyanoethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose and benzyl cellulose. The corresponding derivatives of other polysaccharides can also be used.
The printing inks (solutions, dispersions, emulsions) produced with the above-mentioned resins, dyes, solvents or printing varnishes by conventional methods are applied directly to the auxiliary carrier material to be printed by the processes indicated above.
To improve the usability of the printing inks, optional components such as plasticizers, swelling agents, high-boiling solvents such as. B. tetralin or decalin, ionic or nonionic surface-active compounds such as the condensation product of β-naphthalenesulfonic acid with formaldehyde, partially desulfonated lignin sulfonate, or the condensation product of 1 mole of octylphenol with 8 to 10 moles of ethylene oxide.
The quantitative composition of the printing inks in terms of resin mixture and solvent mixture is determined by two requirements:
If solvents are used, they must be present in such amounts that the resin remains dissolved and / or dispersed, and on the other hand the amount of solvent must be within such limits that the viscosity of the printing ink has the value required for carrying out the printing process. In gravure printing, for example, good results are generally obtained with a quantity ratio of resin: solvent which is between 1: 1 and 1:50, preferably between 1: 3 and 1:20.
Water-soluble thickeners such as. B. polyvinyl alcohol, locust bean gum, methyl cellulose or water-soluble polyacrylates.
For the preparation of the printing inks or dye dispersions, dye preparations can be used which contain the above-mentioned dyes and a carrier resin. Such preparations have the advantage that they already contain the dyes in a very fine distribution, so that a grinding or rubbing process for the production of the printing inks is superfluous. With such preparations, ready-to-use printing inks are obtained simply by stirring them into solvent or solvent / binder systems.
The above-mentioned cellulose derivatives can be used as the carrier resin for such a dye preparation.
The transfer printing is carried out in the usual way. For this purpose, the auxiliary printing carriers are brought into contact with the non-textile moldings or flat structures and are kept on sublimation or
Maintained diffusion temperature until the dyes applied to the auxiliary carrier have been transferred to the material. A short (10 to 60 seconds) heating to 150 to 2200 C. is usually sufficient for this.
Transfer prints are also possible at lower temperatures, for example on polyvinyl chloride at 1000 C. The transfer print can be interrupted on a heated roller or by means of a heated plate (iron or hot press) or using steam or dry, warm air under atmospheric pressure or in a vacuum.
If the transfer printing is carried out by means of steam, you can, for. B. send the steam jet through the organ that presses the print carrier against the substrate to be printed, or send through the substrate to be printed, including z. B. can use perforated drums.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, parts are parts by weight, percentages are percentages by weight, and temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. The ratio between parts by weight and parts by volume is the same as that between grams and milliliters.
