Method and apparatus for dyeing leather
The invention relates to a method for dyeing leather by moving the leather in a dye bath.
According to known methods, leather is introduced into barrels filled with dye solution, the inner walls of which have numerous unevenness in the form of baffles. In order to achieve a thorough dyeing of the leather, the barrels are then rotated around a horizontal axis for hours so that the leather is drummed through in the dye bath. Loading the barrels, which is often preceded by tying the leather to avoid excessive scar damage and tangling, as well as emptying the barrels and removing the twine, means a lot of work. The leathers then have to be withered or, when very wet, subjected to an expensive drying process. The barrels and the wilting presses have a high demand for drive energy.
For dyeing according to this process, a large minimum amount of dye is still required to fill the barrels, so that coloring individual pieces of leather in the large dye barrels is not worthwhile.
Another disadvantage is that the hour-long flexing work leaves the leather with a coarse pore pattern with possible pores.
Gets scar damage. After all, the color setting is difficult to control after this procedure.
The pouring and spray-dyeing processes, which are still known, only allow the dyeings to be less fast.
The present invention is based on the object of finding a process for dyeing leather which, with little effort, energy, dye and time, allows the leather to be dyed thoroughly with good dyeing fastness and a smooth pore pattern in the dyed leather.
This is achieved according to the invention by a method which is characterized in that the leather is transported through a heated dye bath and then fed to press rollers by this transport process.
The transport of the leather in the dye bath takes place advantageously between grid-shaped conveyor belts, so that the dye can penetrate into the leather unhindered both from below and from above. As a result of the pressing process, the paint comes into particularly intense contact with the fibers of the leather, and the excess paint is pressed out of the leather.
The leather only takes a few seconds to stay in the dye bath. -The contact pressure of the press rollers can be adjusted by a continuously variable transmission or
be controlled pneumatically.
The invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out this method.
In the drawing, an exemplary embodiment of such a device is shown schematically in longitudinal section. The leather 2 to be dyed is brought up to the paint tray 4 via a conveyor belt 1 and is guided into this and onto the conveyor belt 5 via the two guide plates 3. The conveyor belt 5 transports the leather through the dye bath, while the belt 6 as a weighting belt, which is not driven in most types of leather, prevents the leather from wrinkling and swimming and thus ensures uneven coloring and furthermore ensures that the leather is properly removed by the press rollers 7 and 8.
A stripper 9 is located on the tub 4, which lifts the leather off the lower press roller 7 so that it can be properly removed from the machine or passed onto another conveyor belt.
In order to be able to work with the smallest possible amounts of paint, the paint tray is equipped with a heated displacement body 11 between the transport grid 5. A thermostat, not shown, keeps the dye bath at the desired temperature.
The level of the dye bath 10 is kept constantly at the same level by a circulation pump, not shown, and an overflow, so that the coloring of the leather can always take place under the same proportions. The conveyor belts and press rollers are driven by continuously variable gears, so that the optimal transport speed can always be set.
The conveyor belt 5 is completely, the press roller 7 for the most part in the dye bath, which means that complicated seals of the tub are not required. The rollers running in the dye bath are equipped with plastic slide bearings. All parts that come into contact with the dye bath are made of stainless steel or plastic.
In order to ensure an even pressure of the rollers 7 and 8, the rollers are pneumatically pressed against each other, whereby the pressure can be adjusted by a control valve.
The method according to the invention, which is carried out, for example, in the device described, allows the leather to be dyed through with a minimal amount of dye within seconds and thereby to achieve good color fastness. As the leather is immediately squeezed out between the press rollers, the loss of dye is minimal, and the rapid dyeing makes it possible to see very quickly whether the shade is exactly dyed, so that the shade can be nuanced immediately. In addition, the only short-term mechanical stress on the leather means that the leather is not overstrained by fulling, so that a smooth pore structure is retained in the leather. Coloring only individual pieces of leather is also economical.
The device for carrying out the process according to the invention greatly reduces the labor and mechanical drive energy required compared to barrel dyeing, and this process also saves a large amount of hot water, which is usually added to the dye bath.
