Process for the production of fiber products with coated, heat-sealable and printable surfaces
The invention relates to a method for producing fiber products with a grained, heat-sealable and printable surface.
It is known from the main patent no. 490 567 that heat-sealable and printable surfaces can be produced in one operation by applying a coating material which has a pigment-binder ratio of 3.4 to 1.8: 1 and the latter The binder consists of an aqueous dispersion containing a thermoplastic with a particle size of 0.2 to 3 u in amounts of 50 to 95 percent by weight, based on the total dry binder, the thermoplastic having an elongation at break of at least 3000/0 and a heat-sealing temperature from 70 to 1600 C.
It has now been found that the heat-sealing properties are also given when working with a pigment-binder ratio of 0.8 to 1.8 and 3.4 to 4.0: 1. Preferably the pigment to binder ratio is about 1-2.5: 1; H. 40-100 parts by weight of binder are used per 100 parts by weight of pigment. A dispersion is used as the binder which, in addition to natural binders such as casein and starch or starch products, advantageously contains a predominant proportion of a thermoplastic material. The proportion of thermoplastic material is over 50 percent by weight, preferably 65 to 95 percent by weight, based on the total dry binder. (Sum of natural binders and thermoplastic plastic).
The particle size of the plastic components contained in the aqueous suspension is between 0.2 and 3, u.
The thermoplastic plastics used are those which have an elongation at break of over 300%, preferably from 400 to 900%. The heat seal temperature is between 70 and 160 "C. It is important that the range between softening and re-solidification is as small as possible and that re-solidification starts at the highest possible temperature in order to prevent smearing.
Plastics of the specified specification can be obtained by co- and terpolymerization in dispersion of the following monomers: vinyl chloride, vinyl esters, vinyl ethers, acrylic acid and esters, methacrylic acid and esters, maleic acid and esters, fumaric acid and esters, isobutylene, ethylene, etc. Preferably a dispersion consisting of 5 to 40 percent by weight of vinyl chloride, 40 to 80 percent by weight of a vinyl ester with 1 to 18 carbon atoms in the acid residue and 5 to 25 percent by weight of ethylene is used.
The natural binders, such as casein, starch and starch products, are brought into water-soluble form in a known manner and used together with the plastic dispersion as a total binder.
The known fillers, such as kaolin, talc, asbestine, plaster, blanc fixe (barium sulfate), magnesite, chalk, titanium dioxide, calcium silicate, kieselguhr, etc. are used as pigments for the coating slip.
The coating slip can also be colored.
Cellulosic materials such as paper, cardboard and cardboard are mainly used as fiber products, and the fiber raw materials can be of various types, e.g. B. wood, straw, rag, etc.
The amount of coating slip to be applied depends heavily on the porosity and the degree of sizing of the fiber products. It is advantageous to apply about 15-25 g of coating mass, calculated on the dry weight, per square meter.
According to the method of the invention, papers, paperboard and cardboard with a printable and heat-sealable surface can be produced in one operation. These products can be heat sealed to one another.
Another possibility is to weld other materials, such as plastic films, onto this heat-sealable surface. So-called blister packs or skin packs can be produced by simple welding. The known methods, such as hot-sealing, high-frequency and thermal impulse processes, are suitable for welding.
A so-called adhesion improver is sometimes expediently added to the coating slip. Such substances may be rosins such as rosin glycerol esters, hydrogenated rosin compounds, etc., coumarone resins, coumarone-indene resins, polyterpene resins, alkyd resins, etc.
The addition of the adhesion promoter is particularly advantageous when plastic materials, such as films, are to be applied to the heat-sealable surface. Depending on the material of the plastic to be welded on (e.g. foils), the use of these adhesion promoters can improve the adhesion and processability. Are z. If, for example, hard polyvinyl chloride films are used, coumarone resins are particularly suitable as adhesion promoters. The amount that is used is preferably between 1 to 5 percent by weight, based on the thermoplastic of the aqueous dispersion.
Another variant of the method consists in that the printing of the heat-sealable surface produced in this way is carried out with the aid of a printing ink which contains 15 to 30 percent by weight of the plastic dispersion mentioned. I.e. In addition to the known printing ink, 15 to 30 percent by weight of the plastic dispersion is also used. This also makes the printed areas and areas heat-sealable.
Examples
A wood-like cardboard with a basis weight of 400 g / m2, one surface of which was coated with a pigment-containing starch solution (about 5 in 2), was covered with a coating slip of the composition 60 percent by weight chinaclay (pigment), 35 percent by weight plastic binder and 5 percent by weight casein to the total dry content of the coating slip, which in turn was 35 percent by weight, coated on one side with an application amount of 18 g / m2 (atro = absolutely dry). The pigment binding ratio was 1.5: 1.
The plastic binder was composed of a mixture (1: 1) of an aqueous plastic dispersion with 35 weight percent vinyl acetate, 35 weight percent butyl acrylate and 30 weight percent vinyl chloride, the particle size of which was 0.2 to 3 u, and an aqueous plastic dispersion with 49 weight percent vinyl acetate, 49 weight percent Butyl acrylate and 2 percent by weight acrylic acid. 3 percent by weight of kumeron resin as an adhesion promoter with a softening point of 20 to 300.degree. C. was emulsified into this plastic dispersion. The percentages relate to dry weight. The surface of the coated cardboard was smoothed.
Part of the cardboard prepared in this way was cut to size and various blisters made of polyvinyl chloride films were welded on. The welding was carried out once by means of an automatic heat sealer, the upper tool being heated to 180 +5 ° C.
The negative deep-drawn blister (thickness 0.2 mm) was sealed from the cardboard side. The sealing area was 20 cm2, the contact pressure 100 kg, the sealing time 3.0 to 3.5 seconds and the effective temperature in the joint was 110 C. A further welding of a positively drawn blister (thickness 0.2 mm) was carried out using a high-frequency welding process ( 1.5 kW). The sealing area was 9 cm2, the contact pressure was 120 kg and the sealing time was 1.5 seconds. Another cardboard box was completely printed with a printing ink containing 25 percent by weight of the plastic binder mentioned (based on dry content) and then a positively drawn blister (0.3 mm) in quadruple form was welded onto it by means of high-frequency welding (2 kW). The upper electrode was preheated to 80 ° C before welding.
The welding area was 80 cm2, the contact pressure was 150 kg and the sealing time was 1.8 seconds.
Another part of the cardboard, coated on one side, was processed as follows: 2 sheets of cardboard were joined by gluing the uncoated area to form double-sided weldable duplex cardboard of 800 g / m2. The carton was then cut to size and, in one operation, welded line against line on one side and line against line against the polyvinyl chloride blister at high frequency on the other side, the upper tool being preheated to 1700 ° C. and applied to the box. The contact pressure was 150 kg, the sealing area 80 cm2. The sealing time was 4 seconds.
