The subject of the main patent No. 484207 is a process for the production of perfluoroalkyl iodides of higher molecular weight from the corresponding perfluoroalkyl iodides of low molecular weight, characterized in that a) perfluoroalkyl iodides with b) perfluoroethylene or perfluoropropylene, which may contain at most one chlorine atom, in
Presence of a c) metal halide of a metal from groups lb or
2b and a d) amine as a pair of catalysts, ati telomerized at 60 to 3000C and 0 to 200.
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of perfluoroalkyl iodides of higher molecular weight from the corresponding perfluoroalkyl iodides of lower molecular weight, characterized in that a) perfluoroalkyl iodides with b) perfluoroethylene or perfluoropropylene, which may contain at most one chlorine atom, in the presence of a c) metal salt a metal of groups lb or 2b and a d) amine as a catalyst pair, telomerized at 50 to 3500C and 0 to 200C, with the exception that it is not telomerized with metal halides as component c) at 60 to 3000C.
The components a), b) and d) used according to the invention correspond to the components used in the main patent.
In the process according to the invention, telomerization is carried out in the presence of a pair of catalysts consisting of a metal salt and an amine. Metal salts of copper, silver, gold, zinc, cadmium or mercury are particularly suitable as metal salts c) of metals from groups 1b or 2b of the Periodic Table. The corresponding cyanides, sulfates or nitrates of these metals are suitable as anions. In the case of telomerization between 50 and 60 ° C. or 300 to 3500 ° C., halides such as chlorides, bromides or iodides of these metals are also suitable. Mercury can be present in the monovalent and / or divalent oxidation state.
Copper (I), silver, gold or cadmium salts, especially the corresponding cyanides or sulfates, are particularly suitable.
The molar ratios between components a) to d) correspond to the ratios given in the main patent.
The telomerization according to the invention thus takes place at temperatures of 50 to 3500C, in particular 60 to 3000C, and preferably at 100 to 2500C. Otherwise the telomerization proceeds as indicated in the main patent.
Example I.
A 300 ml autoclave with a magnetic stirrer is charged with 100 mg CuCl and 3 g ethanolamine as catalyst and 98 g n-perfluorooctane as solvent. The autoclave is cooled to -700C, flushed with nitrogen and evacuated. Then 19.6 g (0.1 mol) of trifluoromethyl iodide and 28 g (0.28 mol) of tetrafluoroethylene are injected. The autoclave is warmed to room temperature while stirring. The autoclave is then heated to 700C. Within 5 minutes, the temperature rises from + 700C to + 2800C, (pressure 37.5 atü), then to 3200C, (pressure 36 atü) and after one hour reaches 1550C, (pressure 15 atü). It is left to react for a further 12 hours at 160.degree. C., cooled to room temperature and gassed through 3 cold traps. 12 g of CF3J are recovered.
8.8 g of a waxy product are isolated from the autoclave. After sublimation, this product melts at 178 to 1820C. The following telomeres are determined by mass spectroscopy and gas chromatography: CF3 (CF2CF2) nJ n molecular weight content
