Process for the production of tetrachlorethylene is furthest in
the technology for the production of tetrachlorethylene spreads the working method,
in the trichlorethylene is chlorinated to pentachloroethane, whereupon this with
Lime is converted to tetrachlorethylene. Thermal processes have also been introduced
which are based on the fact that at elevated temperature the vapors of tetrachloroethane
or alkylene dichlorides, such as dichloroethane, dichloropropane, with chlorine over catalysts
conducts or that one tetrachloroethane with air via copper chloride-containing contacts
leads.
There was a new way of thermal production of Tetrachloräth_vlen
found from chlorinated hydrocarbons, which consists essentially in that one
Chlorethylene, mainly trichlorethylene or dichloroethylene or a mixture
conducts the same with the corresponding amount of chlorine over hot contacts. It is
useful when inert gases or vapors are added, e.g. B. nitrogen, hydrogen chloride gas,
vaporous tetrachlorethylene. It is advantageous to use large-area contacts as contacts
Body, e.g. B. activated carbon, silica gel, but also contacts such as porcelain or broken glass
are useful. The contacts can be used to regulate the implementation with salts stronger
Bases and mineral acids must be provided. The implementation begins with the application of larger areas
Substances already at t5o °, with others, e.g. B. when using porcelain or broken glass,
must generally be walked up to at least 25o °.
Beispiel i Ein wasserfreies, dampfförmiges Gemisch von
320 g Chlor besteht. :11s Kontakt wird Aktivkohle verwendet, welche mit 5%
Natriumsulfat imprägniert ist. Es werden 370 g Rohprodukt erhalten, welches aus
96,5 % Tetrachloräthylen, 0,7% Dichloräthylen und 2,80/0 Trichloräthylen besteht;
Hexachloräthan entsteht debei nicht. The process according to the invention is characterized by high economic efficiency, since apart from the tetrachlorethylene obtained and the unconverted chloroethylenes, only traces of by-products such as hexachloroethane and the like are formed. In addition, it is advantageous that the reaction take place without supplying heat and that the appropriate reaction temperature can also be maintained without a cooling device. Example i An anhydrous, vaporous mixture of 11.4 kg of trichlorethylene, 3.2 kg of hydrogen chloride and 6.1 kg of chlorine is passed through a catalyst chamber at a temperature of 22o to 25o ° at a rate of 25o ccm per second for one hour directed by 5o l content. Activated carbon, which is impregnated with 5% sodium sulfate, serves as the catalyst. In addition to the corresponding amount of hydrogen chloride, which is free from chlorine, 14.0 kg of crude product are obtained, which consists of approximately 96.0% tetrachlorethylene, 3.8% trichlorethylene and 0.2% hexachloroethane. EXAMPLE e A vaporous, anhydrous mixture consisting of 220 g of dichloroethylene, 10 g of hydrogen chloride gas and 320 g of chlorine is passed through a catalyst space of 1.71 capacity within 1 hour at a temperature of 250 to 320 °. : 11s contact, activated charcoal is used, which is impregnated with 5% sodium sulfate. 370 g of crude product are obtained, which consists of 96.5% tetrachlorethylene, 0.7% dichloroethylene and 2.80 / 0 trichlorethylene; Hexachloroethane does not arise.
