Process for the preparation of water-soluble dyes
The main patent relates to a process for the production of water-soluble dyes which contain at least one group of the formula -CH2NH-CO-R bonded to an aromatic nucleus, in which R denotes a halogen-containing, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic radical.
The process for their preparation consists in adding 1 mol of a dye which contains at least one exchangeable hydrogen atom bonded to an aromatic nucleus in the presence of an acidic condensing agent with at least 1 mol of a nitrile of the formula R- (N and at least 1 mol of formaldehyde implements.
It has now been found that similar dyes can be obtained if 1 mol of a water-soluble dye which contains at least one exchangeable hydrogen atom bonded to an aromatic nucleus is used in the presence of an acidic condensing agent with at least 1 mol of a nitrile of the formula
R-CN, and at least 0.5 mol of a symmetrical dihalodimethyl ether and the reaction product is treated with concentrated sulfuric acid or oleum to convert it into a water-soluble dye.
The process is suitable for all classes of water-insoluble dyes which contain at least one exchangeable hydrogen atom bonded to an aromatic nucleus. Such dyes are z. B. from the anthraquinone series: l-amino-4-arylamino-anthraquinones, 1-amino-2-methyl-4-arylamino-anthraquinones, l-amino-2-halogen-4-arylamino-anthraquinones, l-amino-2- alkoxy-4-arylamino-anthraquinones, 1-amino-2-aryloxy-4-hydroxy-anthraquinones, 1,4-diamino-2-aryloxy-anthraquinones, 1-amino-2-aryloxy-4-arylamino anthraquinones, 1, 4 -Diarylamino-anthraquinones, 1,5-diamino-4,8-dihydroxy-2-hydroxyphenyl-anthraquinones, 1,5-diamino-4,8-dihydroxy-2-alkoxyphenyl anthraquinones.
1, 5-diamino-4, 8-dihydroxy-2-aryloxyphenyl-anthraquinones.
1,5-dihydroxy-4-amino-8-arylamino-anthraquinones, 1,5-dihydroxy-4-nitro-8-arylamino-anthraquinones.
Typical examples of anthraquinone dyes are: of the 1,4-diarylaminoanthraquinones, the 1,4-di- (4'methyl-, 1,4-di- (2 ', 4'-dimethyl-, 1,4-di ( 2 ', 6'-dimethyl- or 1,4-di- (2', 4 ', 6'-trimethylphenylamino) -anthrachinones; of the l-amino-2-aryloxy-4-arylamino-anthraquinones that 1-Amino-2- (4'-octyl-phenoxy) -4- (2 ", 4", 6 "trimethyl-phenylamino) -anthraquinone; also the derivatives of these dyes in which the anthraquinone nucleus is still further substituted.
As water-insoluble azo dyes with at least one exchangeable hydrogen atom in the molecule, z. B. those into consideration which contain unsulfonated aryl radicals of the benzene or naphthalene series in the diazo and in the coupling component, z. B. 2-, 3- and 4-methylphenyl; 2-, 3- and 4-methoxy resp.
-Ethoxyphenyl; 2,3- or 3,4-tetramethylene phenyl; 2,4- and 2,5- and 2,6-dimethylphenyl; 2-methyl-4isopropyl- and -4-n-butylphenyl; 2,4- and 2,5-dimethoxy- and diethoxyphenyl, respectively; 2-methoxy- or 2-ethoxy-5-methylphenyl; 2-methyl-4 or. -5-methoxy or ethoxyphenyl; 2-methoxy-4-methylphenyl; 2,4,6 trimethylphenyl; 2,4-dimethyl-6-ethylphenyl; 2,4-diethyl-6-methylphenyl; 2,6-dimethyl-4-n-butylphenyl; 4-chloro-2,5-dimethoxy- or diethoxyphenyl; 4-chloro-2-methoxy-5-methyl-phenyl; 2-chloro- or 2-bromo-4,6-dimethylphenyl; 2-bromo-6-methyl-4-ethyl- or -4-n-butylphenyl; 2,3,5,6-tetramethylphenyl; 2- and 4-methoxynaphthyl.
The halogen-containing, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic nitriles are preferably of low molecular weight (with, for example, 2 to 4 carbon atoms).
Nitriles of this type are z. B.
Chloro- or bromoacetonitrile, a or ss-chloro- or bromopropionitrile, a- or ss-chloro- or -bromobutyronitrile, orchloro- or a-bromo-ss hydroxypropionitrile, es, ss-dichloro- or dibromopropionitrile, a-chloro- or a -Bromoacrylonitrile and further substituted representatives of this class.
Symmetrical dihalodimethyl ethers are dibromodimethyl ethers and preferably dichlorodimethyl ethers.
The reaction is carried out in an acidic medium, e.g. B. concentrated sulfuric acid or concentrated phosphoric acid with a concentration of 80-100 O / o can also serve as a solvent and condensation agent. To avoid sulfonations and other side reactions, as well as to activate or regulate the conversion, depending on the reactants, solvents such as. B dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, dioxane, acetic acid or water as favorable. The reaction can preferably be carried out at temperatures between 0 and 60.degree. Depending on the temperature and reaction partner, the conversion takes a few minutes to several days.
Very interesting dyes are obtained if a-chloro- or oc-bromo-ss-hydroxypropionitrile is used as the nitrile R-CN. The resulting dyes with a group of the formula
EMI2.1
where Hal is chlorine or bromine can easily be converted into the acidic sulfuric acid ester by the sulfuric acid used as a condensing agent.
EMI2.2
be transferred. This reaction already occurs. at a sulfuric acid concentration of 93 / o, preferably 95 to 96 / o, and at temperatures of about 0 to 25 ° C., preferably 15 to 25 ° C., while for sulfonation (introduction of - SOrH groups bonded directly to an aromatic nucleus ) stricter conditions, e.g. B. 98 The above sulfuric acid or oleum with about 1 to 2 / o free SO3 and temperatures of 10 to 25 ° C., preferably about 20 ° C., must be used.
The sulfated dyes have good water solubility, even if they do not contain any real sulfonic acid group. This is particularly important in cases where dyes are used as starting materials which, for. B. one or more tetramethyl; phenyl groups with only one aromatically bound exchangeable hydrogen atom.
The dyes obtained dye wool, silk, synthetic polyamide fibers and leather in lightfast, millfast and washfast shades.
They can also be used for padding and printing fibers made of natural or regenerated cellulose (cotton, rayon, viscose rayon) in shades that are light-, wash-, water-, sweat- and rub-resistant, whereby alkaline-reacting agents are added to the padding solutions or printing pastes .
In the following examples, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
