Process for the production of azo dyes
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of azo dyes which contain at least one group of the formula -CH2-NHOC-R bonded to an aromatic nucleus, where R is an optionally substituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radical.
The process according to the invention is characterized in that 1 mol of an organic compound which contains at least one exchangeable hydrogen atom bonded to an aromatic nucleus and also a substituent capable of forming azo dye is present in the presence of a condensing agent with at least 1 mol of a nitrile of the formula R-CN and at least 0.5 mol of a symmetrical dihalodimethyl ether is converted and the reaction product obtained is converted into a water-soluble azo dye by azo coupling.
The organic compound can be a diazo or a coupling component; it contains one or more exchangeable hydrogen atoms, which z. B.
are bound to unsulfonated aryl radicals of the benzene, naphthalene or diphenyl series. Such aryl radicals are z. B. the following: 3- and 4-methylphenyl; 2-, 3- and -4-methoxy- or ethoxyphenyl, 2,3- or 3,4-tetramethylene phenyl, 2,4- and 2,5- and 2,6-dimethylphenyl, 2-methyl-4-isopropyl and - 4-n-butylphenyl, 2,4- and 2,5-dimethoxy or diethoxyphenyl, 2-methoxy or 2-ethoxy-5-methylphenyl, 2-methyl-4- or
-5-methoxy- or ethoxyphenyl, 2-methoxy-4-methylphenyl, 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl, 2,4-dimethyl-6-ethylphenyl, 2,4-diethyl-6-methylphenyl, 2,6-dimethyl -6-n-butylphenyl, 4-chloro-2,5-dimethoxy- or diethoxyphenyl, 4-chloro-2-methoxy-5-methylphenyl, 2-chloro- or
2-bromo-4,6-dimethylphenyl, 2-bromo-6-methyl-4-ethyl or -4-n-butylphenyl, 2,3,5,6-tetramethylphenyl, 2 and 4-methoxynaphthyl.
Organic cyano compounds with optionally substituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radicals can be used as nitriles. By using α, β-unsaturated or nitriles containing mobile halogen atoms, water-soluble dyes can be produced according to the claimed process, which can form a chemical bond with cellulose fibers and polyamide fibers of natural or synthetic origin.
Nitriles of this type are z. B. chloro- or bromoacetonitrile, a- or ss-chloro- or -bromopropionitrile, a- or ss-chloro- or -bromobutyronitrile, epoxypropionitrile, a chloro- ss-hydroxypropionitrile, a, ss-dichloro- or -dibromopropionitrile, a- Chloro- or α-bromoacrylonitrile, acrylonitrile, 2-chloropyrimidyl-5-acetonitrile and other substituted representatives of this class.
Symmetrical dihalodimethyl ethers are dibromodimethyl ethers and preferably dichlorodimethyl ethers.
The reaction is carried out in an acidic medium, e.g. B. concentrated sulfuric acid or concentrated phosphoric acid with a concentration of 80-100 O / o can also serve as a solvent and condensation agent. To avoid sulfonations and other side reactions, as well as to activate or regulate the conversion, depending on the reactants, solvents such as. B. dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, dioxane, acetic acid or water as favorable. The reaction can preferably be carried out at temperatures between 0 and 60.degree. Depending on the temperature and reaction partner, sales take anywhere from a few minutes to several days.
The reaction products, if they are diazo components, can be used directly or after dilution with water at low temperature, for. B. be diazotized at 0 to 100 C and the optionally filtered diazo compound with a coupling component at temperatures of z. B. 0 to 400 C in acidic, neutral to alkaline medium to be coupled to a water-soluble azo dye. The temperature can be kept higher the more acidic the reaction medium is.
The reaction products are advantageously isolated by diluting the strongly acidic reaction mixture with water or with a salt solution and filtration and converting them into water-soluble azo dyes by azo coupling.
The dyes formed in this way can be separated off by the addition of salt and / or acid, filtered off, optionally washed with a salt solution and dried. They dye wool, silk, synthetic polyamide fibers and leather in light-, mill- and washfast shades.
They can also be used for padding and printing fibers made of natural or regenerated cellulose (cotton, rayon, viscose rayon) in shades that are light-, wash-, water-, sweat- and rub-resistant, whereby alkaline-reacting agents are added to the padding solutions or printing pastes .
In the following example, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
example
10 parts of chloroacetonitrile are added dropwise to 92 parts of 960% sulfuric acid at 10 to 20 with thorough stirring, and the mixture is stirred for a further 2 hours at 20. 7.7 parts of dichlorodimethyl ether are then allowed to flow in at 10 to 150 in about 30 minutes, and the reaction mixture is stirred at 15 to 200 for 15 hours. 36 parts of 2- (2 ', 4', 6'-trimethylphenyl) -amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-6-sulfonic acid are dissolved at 0 in 350 parts of 960 / above sulfuric acid and the stock solution described above is added dropwise. The mixture is stirred for 2 to 3 hours at 15 to 20 and then poured onto 1000 parts of ice.
The reaction product precipitates out immediately. It is filtered off and processed in 500 parts of water with the required amount of sodium hydroxide to form a neutral coupling solution. The latter is added at 25 to 300 to a freshly prepared aqueous diazo solution of 17 parts of 1-aminobenzene-2-sulfonic acid and the coupling is accelerated by adding sodium acetate. Finally, the pH is adjusted to 5 to 6 with sodium hydroxide solution and the coupling product is precipitated with sodium chloride. It is filtered off and dried at a maximum of 400 in vacuo. A red dye is obtained which dyes wool from a weakly acidic bath and cotton from alkaline printing pastes in blue-tinged red shades of very good wet and light fastness.
Staining instructions
2 parts of the above dye, 0.8 part of an oxethylated fatty amine and 0.5 part of an oleyl polyglycol ether are dissolved in 5000 parts of water, and 2 parts of glacial acetic acid are added. This dye liquor is heated to 40-500, whereupon 100 parts of wool are added and the bath is brought to the boil within 30 minutes. Cook for 45 minutes, then rinse and dry the material. This gives a level, very lightfast and wetfast blue-tinged red coloration. If, after the dyeing process, the dye liquor is neutralized with ammonia and the material to be dyed in it for 20 minutes at 90 ", the result is a dyeing that is somewhat more water-fast.
The same effect can also be achieved by treating the material to be dyed in a new bath of 5000 parts of water and 3 parts of hexamethylenetetramine at 90-950 for 20-30 minutes.
