Method and device for the continuous lamination of material webs
The present invention relates to a continuous method for lamination on both sides of a textile web or for one or two-sided lamination of a non-textile material web with non-textile, web-like materials, at least one of the webs being thermoplastic and the material webs to be connected to one another under pressure under a stationary flat one Heating device are moved through, as well as on a device for carrying out the method and on the products obtained.
In a known method for producing a laminate of three layers, of which the intermediate layer is relatively thick and consists of porous, elastic, thermoplastic material, while the two outer layers can consist of non-softening material such as textile fabric, the material webs to be connected are common pulled simultaneously through a gap between two fixed flat heating surfaces, which gap is narrower than the total thickness of the webs to be connected, so that the elastic intermediate layer is compressed to a certain extent and consequently the material layers are pressed together with light pressure when they are pulled through the gap.
With this method, the thermoplastic material is gradually heated so that the connection can be made with a slight excess temperature of the heating surfaces. The outer layers, however, have to be tensile strength and furthermore only very slight contact pressures are possible, since otherwise the tensile forces to be exerted on the material become too great. The method cannot be used for soft outer materials, while only laminates of at least three layers can be produced, since omitting a non-softening outer layer would make it impossible to pass the material through the gap because of the friction of the porous plastic material and also because of the direct adhesion this material on the heating surface.
It is obvious that this method is limited in its application possibilities.
The method according to the invention is based on a reverse ironing principle, which enables all materials to be treated without any restrictions, with the additional advantage that it is absolutely unimportant in which order the material layers to be joined together lie on top of one another.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that the material webs to be connected to one another are unwound from rollers mounted on an endlessly running conveyor belt in front of the heating device and supported by the conveyor belt under elastic even pressure, sliding under the surface of the heating device on the side facing away from the conveyor belt.
By using the conveyor belt, the material to be concealed is completely relieved of tensile forces so that these materials do not need to be tensile strength or the compressive forces are not limited and you are completely free in these two ways.
This makes it possible in the method according to the invention to apply particularly thin and weak thermoplastic webs on one or both sides to webs made of non-softening materials, evenly and with good adhesion. On the other hand, the method according to the invention is also suitable for the production of known laminates with porous material, but tensions in the material, which in known methods necessarily arise from the compression, are avoided to a high degree.
It is also possible, according to the method according to the invention, to laminate textile webs on both sides with non-textile webs of material.
The use of conveyor belts for lamination has already been proposed on various occasions, but in all known methods the material webs to be laminated are under more or less pronounced tension. The feature inherent in the method according to the invention of storing the supply rolls of the material webs to be connected on the conveyor belt in such a way that the rolls are driven by the frictional contact with the conveyor belt running underneath is new and enables the material webs to be unwound without tension and further in the simplest way respectively.
The invention will now be explained in more detail on the basis of a device for carrying out the method according to the invention, shown partially and essentially schematically in the drawing.
In the drawing, 1 is a frame which is essentially in the form of a table with a fixed leaf 2 supported opposite the frame, e.g. B. by means of the supports 3. At two opposite ends of the table rollers 4 and 5 are arranged in the frame, which are rotatably mounted about a shaft 6 and 7 in the frame 1 such that the surface of the table top 2 with the top points of the rollers 4 and 5 are the same.
In the example shown, the roller 4 is the drive roller, which is driven by a drive device, not shown, e.g. is driven by an electric motor, via a suitable, preferably continuously adjustable reduction gear in such a way that the speed of this roller and thus of the material webs can be precisely adjusted. An endless conveyor belt 8 runs over the rollers 4 and 5 and over the tabletop 2, e.g. consist of ramie and can be coated or impregnated with Teflon or silicone plastic, which materials are difficult to adhere to other materials, in particular polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride. A more permanent band 8 can, however, also consist of glass fabric or of very thin metal.
Above this belt 8 is arranged at one, preferably the drive end, a heating device extending over the entire width of the table, consisting of a closed, substantially rectangular container 9 in which a liquid, such as e.g. oil is located, which can be heated electrically by means of a heating coil 10. The temperature of the liquid in the container 9 can be regulated with the aid of a thermostat controller, not shown. In the case shown, the heating device 9 has a flat bottom 11, which represents the heated surface on which the webs 12 and 13 to be concealed, lying on the belt 8, are guided along the underside. The height of the heating device 9 above the table 2 can be precisely adjusted with the aid of an adjusting device (not shown).
A recess 14 is provided in the tabletop 2 under the heating device 9. in which a cushion 15 made of elastic material such as e.g. Felt, is arranged, which ensures that the webs 12 and 13 to be concealed, supported by the conveyor belt 8, are evenly pressed elastically against this surface over the very effective length of the heated surface 11 in the direction of movement.
If necessary, a pressure roller 16 can also be mounted across the table in the direction of movement after the heating device 9, which can be adjusted with an adjustable
Pressure on the webs. The webs to be laminated are unwound from supply rolls 17 and 18, which in the direction of travel before the Erhitzungsvor device 9 between slotted guides
19 and 20 are stored. The supply rolls 17 and 18 rest on the belt 8 which is driven by the roll 4. As a result, the webs 12 and 13 are unwound without tension and, lying one above the other, are continued along the underside of the heated surface 11 and under the pressure roller 16.
Thereafter, the laminated webs with the tape 8 run around the roll 4 and the roll 5 back along the underside to the take-up roll 21, which is mounted in slotted guides 22 in front of the supply rolls 17 and 18 in the direction of advance. The take-up roll 21 is driven by the belt 8 moved below it, so that the laminated material web is also wound up without tension.
In practice, it has proven to be expedient to apply the thermoplastic material web 12 (which here is e.g. a plastic film) from the roll 17 as a film web 12 between the non-textile, non-thermoplastic material web 13 and the conveyor belt 8. The softened plastic film, e.g. can consist of polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride, then comes into direct contact with the conveyor belt 8, so that adhesion of the softened plastic material to the conveyor belt 8 must be prevented.
This can be done, among other things, as already said, that the conveyor belt 8, which is made of ramie, for example in connection with a favorable low expansion with good flexibility, is coated with Teflon or a silicone plastic, or at least partially impregnated with it. For other thermoplastic plastics, other suitable substances can of course also be used to avoid undesired air conditioning.
If the material web to be laminated contains, for example, fillers which can soften and escape as a result of the heating, these can adhere to the heated surface 11 and crust on it, which would be undesirable. In order to avoid this, if necessary a belt 22 can be attached around the heating device 9. Any substances that may leak out and contaminate the heating surface are then deposited on this tape, which keeps the heated surface clean and can easily be replaced if necessary.
If necessary, the pressure roller 16 can also be insulated against contamination or adhesion of softened thermoplastic material.
The webs of the material to be laminated can also be used in a different order, i.e. that, for example, the non-textile, non-thermoplastic material web 13 gets between the thermoplastic material web 12 and the conveyor belt 8. In this case too, an insulating tape 22 is of course necessary around the heating device 9 to prevent the softened thermoplastic material from sticking to the heating surface 11.
The shape of the heated surface 11 can also be curved in a convex or concave-cylindrical manner instead of being flat. In the case of a concave curved surface, the carrier tape 8 can be guided by a roller or the like.
When a textile web is laminated on both sides, it must either consist of thermoplastic fibers itself or at least partially contain such fibers, or the two outer material webs must be made of thermoplastic material, in the latter case both the side of the conveyor belt in contact with the thermoplastic material web as also the surface of the heating device must be protected against sticking of the thermoplastic material webs.
Fabrics, knitwear or braids made from natural or artificial fibers can be used as the textile web. The method according to the invention is also suitable for laminating metal foils with thermoplastic material webs as an intermediate or outer layer. In addition, several layers can alternately be arranged one above the other and laminated with one another, provided a thermoplastic film is placed in between.
The heating of the heating device can e.g. can also take place with steam or another heated gaseous medium.
The take-up roller 21 can optionally also be arranged behind the rollers 4 and 16. Of course, a sufficient distance should be maintained so that the laminated material web can cool down sufficiently. In the device shown, this takes place without additional space being taken up during operation. In addition, the winding takes place in the illustrated embodiment without tension, i. without tensile forces being exerted on the laminated material web.
The method according to the invention also has the advantage that it requires little operation, so that one person can monitor two or more machines.
Which of the material webs is thermoplastic, be it a textile or non-textile, does not matter.
