Device for rolling a profiled strip Numerous arrangements are known thanks to which certain machines manage to roll a profiled strip. These arrangements are put into action for the rolling of certain helical springs, parts which, before their use, must be formed from such a profiled strip.
No serious difficulty is encountered in putting these arrangements into action as long as the section of the strip to be rolled (circular, rectangular, etc.) does not oppose too great a resistance to bending. This is the case with a strip of rectangular section which is rolled around a mandrel, on its largest dimension.
On the contrary, very great difficulties are encountered as soon as one undertakes to roll a strip of rectangular section on its edge.
This is due, among other things, to the significant deformations which must be subjected to the strip and which results in an elongation of the part of the latter situated beyond a middle rib and in a compression of the part. of the strip below this midrib.
These difficulties are encountered especially when one undertakes the manufacture of helical springs from such a strip, rolled on its edge, springs whose energy storage capacity is very important.
We are therefore led to imagine devices specially adapted for rolling such strips on their edges.
The present invention specifically relates to a device for rolling a profiled strip, in particular on its edge, in order to obtain a bent part, in particular helical, characterized in that it consists of a cylindrical mandrel driven in rotation and around with a bearing surface of which the said strip is wound and at least two members mounted to rotate and guiding this strip, each of these members comprising a radial angular positioning arm, in the base of which a rotary shaft is journaled parallel to the mandrel and the end of which carries a roller driving, in friction, in cooperation with the cylindrical mandrel,
the strip and a shoulder of which maintains it axially firmly applied against the body of the mandrel, powerful elastic means being furthermore arranged to ensure this retention, the drive of the cylindrical mandrel and the rollers ensuring the latter of equal circumferential speeds.
The present invention will be better understood by referring to the appended drawing which shows, by way of example, a particular embodiment thereof and in which FIG. 1 is an axial section of the device. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a diametral section of the device according to 111-11I of FIG. <B> 1, </B> and FIG. 4, a front view of the device.
Referring first to FIG. 1, the cylindrical mandrel 1 has a bearing surface 2 on which the strip 3 is rolled.
The drive and guide members 4 and 5 of this band each comprise a radial arm 6 which determines the angular position of the member.
Each of these members comprises a rotary shaft 7 parallel to the mandrel 1 and journaling in the base of the arm 6 inside a bearing 8 and by means of diametral rings 9 and 10, for example with ball bearings. One of the ends of the shaft 7 comprises a bush 11 for driving the latter in which is driven by force, the end of a control cable 12. The other end of the shaft carries a roller. 13 frictionally driving the rolling strip 3, which gradually winds on the bearing surface 2 of the mandrel 1. A circular shoulder 14 of the roller 13 respectively 13 'projecting therefrom firmly maintains the coil during bending against the latter. the body 1 of the mandrel.
Powerful elastic means are provided to ensure this support. These means are implemented, in FIG. 1, by a strong spring 15 bearing on the one hand on the bottom of the sleeve 11 and, on the other hand, on the ring 9. The turns already formed are evacuated on the bearing surface 2, outside the shoulder 14 of the rollers. The cylindrical mandrel being itself driven in rotation by means not shown in connection with the means for driving the rollers 13 and 13 ', so as to ensure the cylindrical mandrel and the rollers. an equal circumferential speed.
As shown in FIG. 3, the strip 3 which may be present, initially wound along its greatest width, in a container not shown, is supported by the rollers 13 and 13 'and the mandrel 2.
The present device by winding the strip exerts two complementary actions: It firstly ensures the circular shaping of the strip and the winding of the latter on its edge thanks to the rollers 13 and 13 'of the members 4 and 5 and which must be separated from each other by a determined angle so that the curvature of the strip takes place normally. This angle is a function of the diameter of the rollers, the diameter of the mandrel, the dimensions of the rolled profile and the material constituting the strip.
It ensures, on the other hand, the rigorous axial guidance of the strip which is effected by virtue of the strong pressure exerted axially by the circular shoulder 14 of the roller against it by compressing it vigorously against the turns already wound. This action has the result of avoiding any lateral deformations such as warping of the strip at the time of its curvature.
It is thus possible to produce coil springs with flat turns according to various diameters by suitably choosing the mandrel 1.
It is also possible to increase the number of members 4, if the rigidity of the metal used for making the strip so requires, so as to obtain a perfectly regular curvature of the turns.
It should be noted in particular, as is clearly apparent from FIG. 2, that the rollers 13, respectively 13 ', do not directly exert their action on the man drin 1, but on the strip itself 3 which is driven in friction by these rollers on the one hand and by the mandrel of somewhere else. To this end, interstices 13 and 32 are formed respectively between the roller 13 and the body of the mandrel 1, on the one hand, and between its shoulder 14 and the bearing surface 2 of this mandrel, on the other hand.
Referring now to fig. 4, each member 4 and 5 is carried by a sector 25, sliding on a smooth circular neck 16, carried by a crown 17. The arm 6 slides in a recess 18 of this sector and is guided there by an interior recess 19 sliding around a bolt 20 whose head, blocked, maintains, as well as the screw 21, the arm in its radial position.
It is thus possible to modify the angular distance of these members as a function of the inherent rigidity of the metal constituting the strip 3.
