Device for regulating the displacement of a mechanical member The present invention relates to a device for regulating the displacement of a mechanical member, comprising at least two parts undergoing a relative displacement between them.
All kinds of devices for regulating movement are already known, but these devices are of relatively complicated construction. They can be, for example, of the mechanical type, in which the movement of a part is transmitted to a centrifugal regulator. Some regulation devices are based on the variable resistance offered by the flow of a fluid or gas.
The subject of the invention is an extremely simple regulation device. This device is characterized in that one of said parts is constituted by an elastic material with damping power in the field of its elastic deformation, the other part being shaped so as to produce on the first part a deformation zone of which the location varies depending on the relative position between the two pieces.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, three embodiments of the device which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 represents in section the first of these execution forms.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the device according to FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 shows in section the second embodiment.
Fig. 4 is a section along IV-IV of FIG. 3.
Fig. 5 relates to the third embodiment. With reference to fig. 1 and 2, a wall 1 is crossed by a shaft 2 carrying a handle 3. This handle 3 could, for example, be used to control, via the shaft 2, the adjustment mechanism of an appliance, for example in a cinematographic camera, the control mechanism of a variable shutter, or even of the variation of the focal length of the lens.
The wall 1 has an arcuate groove 4 in which is embedded a strip of elastic material 5 with damping power in the field of its elastic deformation. This strip can in particular be made of neoprene, butyl, or even of silicone rubber, known commercially under the name Rodorsil.
The handle 3 has a threaded bore 6 into which is introduced a screw 7 with a knurled head and the end of which is in the form of a spherical cap. This end is placed opposite the strip of elastic material 5 and can move along this strip, the center of curvature of which substantially coincides with the axis of the shaft 2.
By tightening the screw 7 more or less, its spherical end is made to penetrate into the strip of material 5, producing a more or less strong deformation zone depending on the degree of tightening of the screw <B> -7. </B> When the lever 3 is actuated, the movement of the deformed zone on the elastic material strip 5 produces resistance to the advance of the lever 3, resistance which increases very quickly as a function of the speed imparted to this lever. An effect of regulating the movement is thus obtained, and the movement of the lever 3 is easily obtained at a practically constant speed when the force exerted on this lever does not undergo any sudden variation.
In the case where this lever is used on a cinematographic camera to control a variable shutter, it is found that it becomes very easy, even for an inexperienced operator, to carry out fades in or out with great regularity. .
Figs. 3 and 4 relate to a second embodiment, in which one of the parts consists of a roller 8 rotatably mounted at the end of an arm 9 on a shaft 10 carrying a knurled head 11. The roller 8 somewhat crushes a coil 12 of elastic material which is retained by its ends in two parts 13 and 14. This coil 12 rests on an arcuate rib 15 projecting from a wall 16. This regularization device has substantially the same features. than that shown in Figs. 1 and 2, but the amount of the deformation of the elastic material is not adjustable.
Fig. 5 relates to another embodiment which can also be used advantageously in the field of cinematographic apparatus. In this embodiment, the piece of elastic material is made in the form of a sleeve 17 fixed in a tubular support 18. The movable piece consists of a sliding rod 19 terminating in a spherical end 20 engaged in the sleeve 17 and exerting an elastic deformation of its wall.
The rod 19 has a lateral tab 21 allowing the coupling of this rod to the mechanical means in which the movement is to be made regular.
The rod 19 is slidably mounted in a tube 22 which has two diametrically opposed longitudinal slots 23, allowing the passage of a transverse plug 24 fixed to the rod 19. The ends of the plug 24 are clamped between two surrounding washers 25 and 26. the tube 22 and arranged between two coil springs 27 and 28, the outer ends of which are retained by washers 29 each retained by a clip 30.
The tube 22 also has two holes 31 and 32 allowing the locking of the tube in two positions determined by introduction into one or the other of these holes of the end of an arm 33 subjected to the action of a spring 34. This arm 33 can be retained against the action of its spring by a tab 35 carried by a pivoting rod 36 and making it possible to prevent the introduction of the arm 33 into the holes 31 or 32 when desired.
The rod 19 also has a toothed portion in the form of a rack 37 allowing the rod to be locked in position by means of a pawl 38, a notch 39 of which cooperates with a stop piece 40. This pawl is subjected to the the action of a spring 41 tending to apply it against the stopper 40 and at the same time to move it away from the teeth 37.
The device of FIG. 5 is intended for actuating the variable shutter of a cinematographic apparatus. When the arm 33 and the pawl 38 are respectively removed from the tube 22 and from the teeth 37, the rod 19 can be moved over its entire stroke, and the deflection exerted in the wall of the sleeve 17 by the spherical end 20 makes the movement of this rod 19 regular.
If the user wishes to effect automatic closing or opening of the variable shutter, he first releases the arm 33, then brings the rod 19 into the final position that it will have to occupy after the function performed automatically. Following the latter, the arm 33 then penetrates into the hole 31 or, on the contrary, into the hole 32. The user then brings the rod 19 into the position that it must occupy before the execution of the automatic function and it blocks this rod in position by pushing the pawl 38. This movement of the rod 19 is accompanied by the compression of one of the springs 27 or 28 depending on the type of movement, since the tube 22 is locked in position by the arm 33.
When the automatic function is to be performed, the user releases the rod 19 by acting on the pawl 38, so that the one of the springs 27 and 28 which is compressed moves the rod 19 against the braking action exerted by the sleeve 17, until this rod again occupies its initial position relative to the tube 22.
One can, of course, provide many variants, and it would be without other possible to regulate the rotational movement of a shaft by passing it through a sleeve of elastic material of the aforementioned type, the portion of this shaft located in the sleeve having one or more protrusions that cause deformations in the wall of the sleeve. Thus, the shaft could, for example, have a polygonal section or even have grooves or bosses.
The number or size of these bosses, or in general the protrusions provided on the shaft, could vary by moving along the shaft, so that by an axial displacement of the sleeve, braking forces could be obtained. and more or less marked regularization.
According to a very simple embodiment, the piece of elastic material could be formed in the form of a disc integral in rotation with a shaft, this disc being clamped between two fixed clamps producing the desired deformation.
