A method of manufacturing a watch case part by Parles die-forging. Current stamping processes, it has not been possible until now to produce in a single operation watch cases having an opening of reduced diameter for casing the movement, or monohull watch cases.
The folding of the edges of the cup-shaped blank obtained by a first stamping operation has so far required either an additional stamping operation which, in any case, cannot be carried out with sufficient precision due to the fact that the inner wall of the edge is not supported, or by a rolling operation which can only be carried out on cylindrical cups.
In other fields of the art, it has already been proposed to use a core, placed in the punch or the die, with a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the cylindrical cup, the end of which is constituted by a deformable material which, under the action of the metal part of the core, deforms laterally,
in turn deforming the wall of the bowl to give it a generally concave shape.
The present invention specifically relates to a method of manufacturing a watch case part by stamping, according to which a metal plate is cut, this plate is stamped to give it the shape of a bowl, has at least one cup in the bowl. deformable material plate, places the cuvette in a die,
stamps the part using a punch resting on the bottom of the cup, compresses said material with a core to apply the cup against the die and finally removes this material, all so as to give the piece a predeter mined section, characterized in that before placing the cuvette in the matrix,
the edges of the bowl are folded inwards beforehand, so that during the forging operation, the core mantle forms the edges of the bowl. The core therefore not only intervenes to compress the deformable material, but at the same time constitutes a forming tool making it possible to obtain a very precise opening,
in particular having a smooth angle or forming a perfectly square bearing.
The appended drawing represents an example of implementation of this process for the manufacture of a base-cap, the opening of which allows the movement to be encaged.
Figs. 1 to 4 each represent one of the stages of this process.
According to this process, one begins by cutting a metal plate of suitable thickness to the dimensions required to obtain a finished part of given profile and dimensions. This plate is then subjected to a stamping operation (fig. 1).
The deep stamping gives the plate a cup shape, comprising a bottom 1 and a peripheral wall 2. Plates 3 of a hard elastic material, for example rubber or a synthetic material, are then arranged horizontally in the bowl (fig. 2).
Depending on the final profile of the wall 2 to be obtained, one or more rubber plates of variable thickness are used. Their function will be described later. Then, the edges 4 of the wall 2 are folded inwards, as shown in fig. 3.
The part thus worked and reinforced with rubber is then inverted (FIG. 4) and placed on a die 5. The central part of this die is hollow so that a core 6 can slide therein axially. A punch 7 rests on the bottom 1 of the part.
The core is first moved upwards to compress the elastic material 3.
The section of the core 6 corresponds to the exact contour that we want to give to the opening 8 of the room. The punch 7 then exerts a pressure on the base 1 so as to force the wall 2 of the part to match on the one hand the profile 9 of the die 5, on the other hand the contour of the core conditioning the shape of the opening 8 and, finally, the profile 10 of the contact surface of the punch 7.
During this operation, the rubber plates 3 act as support for the walls and the bottom of the part and force them to deform according to the profile of the die, the punch and the core. The finished part, as shown in fig. 4, is taken out of the press and the rubber plates are then extracted.
The finished part constitutes a base-cap, the opening of which is formed so as to allow the movement to be locked. As a variant, it would of course be possible to produce other elements of monohull boxes as well as complete boxes such as for example monohull boxes.
The manufacturing process described is simple, fast and economical to implement; in particular, it applies well to working with gold due to the absence of material loss. It also allows the production of parts of general concave section having very varied profiles and whose external dimensions like those of their opening are extremely precise.
Finally, for the same profile of the side walls of the part, the opening dimensions of the latter can be modified by using a core of suitable diameter.
The actuation of the machine for carrying out the method can of course be effected in different ways, for example hydraulically or mechanically.
