Process for the production of a stretch-free and endlessly connectable drive belt
The invention relates to a method for producing a practically stretch-free and endlessly connectable drive belt made of plastic.
Practice has shown that drive belts made entirely of plastic (e.g. polyamide) have enriched modern drive technology thanks to their high cross-sectional performance, their low weight and their resistance to oil. They also have the advantage that they can be sharpened in a wedge shape at their ends and connected to an endless belt by a fusing operation, which is possible on the machine without removing the bearings.
Although the orientation process of the tension elements used in these drive belts is largely mastered and the flexibility or tensile strength can thus be varied in certain cases, the slight residual elongation in the plastic elasticity range of the tension elements is perceived as a disadvantage depending on the skate. However, the belt elongation can also be adversely affected by environmental conditions such as moisture or dryness.
For drives in which absolute freedom from stretching or synchronous running winds slowed down, drive belts have therefore prevailed in practice, which in longitudinal or. Metallic tension elements (e.g.
Steel wire or stranded wire). These tension elements are welded or spliced at their ends, these tension elements being completely embedded in a material made of rubber or plastic. This explains it. the fact that such armored belts, for example steel cable arms, have to be endlessly manufactured and delivered from the factory. However, this is associated with economic disadvantages both for the manufacturer and for the consumer, since stretch-free drive belts pose a considerable problem during assembly.
According to the invention, a practically stretch-free and nonetheless endlessly connectable drive belt made of plastic and which no longer has the deficiencies indicated is obtained. A single drive belt is obtained according to the invention by providing traction elements with a plastic layer and then inseparably combining the elements treated in this way at least on one side with a plastic sheet having the shape of a drive belt.
The tension elements can consist of a metallic or non-metallic material. The metallic elements are preferably those made of iron logging, e.g. B. the most diverse steel alloys, also those made of Monel-Meball etc. in question, while the non-metallic materials are preferably made of mineral materials, such as. B. asbestos, glass fibers, nylon fibers, etc., may exist. The tension elements present in the drive belt according to the invention can consist in their entirety of either metallic or non-metallic material. However, some of the tension elements can also consist of metallic material and the other part of non-metallic material.
Furthermore, the tension elements are expediently embedded between at least two plastic sheets, which in turn are welded together ver. In general, the same material will be used for the plastic layer and for the plastic sheet. Materials made from polyamides, polyesters, polyurethanes, etc., can be used with success. Liquids in which the plastic is soluble can be used as the solvent.
According to a preferred embodiment, the new drive belts can be produced as follows.
The tension elements are sheathed with plastic (e.g. polyamide) in a preliminary stage. The plastic will be chosen so that the plastic sheath enters into an intimate connection with the metallic tension elements in order to exclude any relative movement in the Si-nixe of mutual displacement. This can be achieved by a sintering process by adding plastic powder, e.g. B. polyamide, is whirled up in a channel and brought into contact with the metallic tension elements running through this channel.
By heating the tension elements, the plastic powder can be melted or sintered, whereby it becomes inseparable from the tension elements.
The tension elements encased in plastic in this way can now be used individually or as a mesh between two sheets of the same plastic, such as. B.
Polyamide, laid and, using a surface pressure of, for example, 20 to 40 kg / cm2 and a temperature of, for example, 80 to 400 C, possibly in the presence of solvents, are combined on the flat side in such a way that an inseparable connection that excludes any relative movement between the superimposed plastic sheets and tension elements embedded therein. Instead of just one layer of tension elements and two plastic sheets, several layers of tension elements and plastic sheets could be pressed together, depending on the practical requirements.
On the other hand, the tension elements used can be different in terms of their cross-section (e.g. round and / or rectangular). The drive belt obtained in this way can then be provided with an adhesive seal, ag on one or both sides, provided the outer plastic webs do not inherently have the required coefficient of friction. The covering can, however, also be equipped with elevations or depressions which, in order to ensure synchronous operation, in the corresponding counter-shape on the pulley; intervention.
Since the commercially available plastic webs have enough tensile strength to transmit large forces, the tension elements embedded in the drive belt according to the invention only have the task of making any linear expansion of the drive belt impossible due to elasticity, environmental conditions or the like. As tests have shown, it is also irrelevant whether the tension elements are connected at their joints or not. The connection of the individual layers made of the same material is, on the contrary, so homogeneous that it is sufficient to only sharpen the plastic part of the drive belt in the usual way and to glue or weld it to form an endless belt.
This gives drive practice the advantages of a stretch-free and endlessly connectable belt.
In order to ensure a durable end connection, it should only be stressed up to the load capacity of the connected plastic webs, as is the case with the known plastic drive belts. It is therefore pointless to want to install metallic tension elements, the performance of which far exceeds that of plastic sheets. In practice, care will be taken to strive for an equilibrium as far as possible with regard to the strength properties of the plastic sheets and the tension elements and thus only assign the task of stretching prevention to the latter.
However, it goes without saying that, depending on the design and number of layers of the drive belt, the high tensile strength of oriented plastics and the load-bearing capacity of their end connections, large forces can be transmitted without permanent elongation.
