(Additional patent to main patent 384 972) Process for the electrolytic application of a shiny coating made of gold or a gold alloy The subject of the main patent is a method for the electrolytic application of a shiny coating made of gold or a gold alloy, which is characterized by the fact that a solution is used as the electrolyte bath containing 10 to 150 g of a weak organic acid per liter,
Contains 1 to 15 g gold in the form of a cyanoaurate and up to 50 g / l of at least one other heavy metal in the form of a soluble metal salt and is adjusted to a pH of 3 to 5.
According to the process of the main patent, the metal salt supplies ions which are reduced under the electrolysis conditions and precipitated with the gold, with a shiny, bright gold coating or gold alloy coating being formed on the finished product.
It has now been found that very good results are obtained if this ionic form of the metal salt is added to the bath in the form of a soluble metal complex or a chelate.
The inventive method for the electrolytic application of a shiny coating of gold or a gold alloy is therefore characterized in that the electrolyte bath used is a solution containing 10 to 150 g of a weak organic acid, 1 to 15 g of gold in the form of a cyanoaurate per liter and up to 150 g of at least one further heavy metal in the form of a complex compound which releases metal ions under electrolysis conditions, contains and is adjusted to a pH of 3 to 5.
Examples of suitable metal complexes of this type include e.g. B. the amine complexes and the triglycol amate chelates. Under the conditions prevailing during electrolysis, the metal complex must release metal ions and, in particular, should have association constants such that sufficient metal ions are present to enable the reduced metal ions to co-precipitate together with the gold, if a light yellow to pale yellow gold alloy coating is to be formed.
The metal complexes can be added to the bath as such or. They can be formed in a bath that already contains metal salts by adding a complexing agent before the electrolysis is started.
