Description

 la fig. 1 représente une vue en plan du fond du boî  tier;
 la fig. 3 représente une vue en plan du couvercle;
 la fig. 4 représente une vue en coupe bb du couvercle;

  Closed housing
 In general, closed round boxes made of metal or plastic, such as boxes containing measuring tapes, for example, consist either of a bottom in the form of a round bowl on which is fixed a disc-shaped cover, or of two halves. - housings assembled together. These elements can be assembled by screws, by gluing, by crimping or by other means.

   In the case of a box containing a measuring tape, the cover can also be held in its central part by the winding mechanism which also serves as a link between the two parts of the box.

   Such an assembly method results in a loss of time during assembly due to the installation of the peripheral fixing screws.

   The assembly is more expensive and offers questionable aesthetics. In addition, the screws which must be placed outside the useful internal diameter of the case lead to a larger external diameter.

   Bonding operations are long and uncertain and some materials do not fit together or are poorly assembled by gluing.

   Consequently, the invention proposes to provide a closed housing made of synthetic material, in particular for a measuring tape, the ease of assembly of which makes it possible to achieve an appreciable saving in time and construction by eliminating any assembly error and of which the mode of assembly. 'assembly gives the case increased robustness and excellent sealing at the same time as a perfectly aesthetic presentation, characterized in that the back of the case comprises two concentric circular rims forming a circular groove in which is inserted with clamping a peripheral rim of which is fitted with the cover.

   The invention will be clearly understood by referring to the following description given by way of non-limiting example, as well as to the appended drawing in which:
 fig. 1 shows a plan view of the bottom of the box;
 fig. 2 shows a sectional view aa of the bottom of the case
 fig. 3 shows a plan view of the cover;
 fig. 4 shows a sectional view bb of the cover;
 fig. 5 shows a section through the groove rim assembly.

   Reference is made to FIGS. 1 and 2:
 A synthetic measuring tape case comprises a molded bottom 1 provided with a peripheral rim 2. The bottom 1 and the rim 2 thus form a kind of bowl.

   A second rim 3 of diameter smaller than that of the rim 2 is integral with the base 1.

   These concentric rims 2 and 3 thus form a circular groove 4.

   Said groove 4 has an interruption 5 at the location of the tangential outlet 6 of the strip (not shown). Finally, a circular orifice 7 made in the base 1 makes it possible to receive the corresponding part (not shown) of the winding mechanism.

   Reference is made to FIGS. 3 and 4:
 The second part of the housing is formed by a molded cover 8 provided with an orifice 9 intended to receive the corresponding part (not shown) of the winding mechanism.

   A peripheral rim is integral with the cover 8.

  The rim 10 also includes an interruption 11 which corresponds to the interruption 5 of the groove 4. There is therefore no possibility of error during assembly. The average diameter of this rim 10 is equal to the average diameter of the groove 4 and its thickness is such that this rim 10 fits exactly tightly into the groove 4. In order to increase the efficiency of the assembly, the section 12 of the rim 10 and the section 13 of the groove 4 have a slight taper.

   Fig. 5 shows this taper of the rim 10 and of the groove 4 which is intentionally exaggerated. The housing 1 and the cover 8 are shown in this figure in the position they have before the forcing. After the forcing operation, the bottom 14 of the groove 4 and the top 15 of the rim 10 are in contact with each other.

   The value of the tightening obtained is a function of the distance separating the bottom 14 from the top 15 before forcing as well as the inclination of the side walls 16 of the groove 4 and 17 of the rim 10. The inclination of these walls 16 and 17 is less. at their friction angle, which makes it impossible to dislodge and rotate the cover 8 and the bottom 1 thus assembled.

   The assembly thus produced is practically undetachable and also provides, thanks to the superimposed thicknesses of the three rims 2, 3 and 10, a very great robustness to the case while leading to an outer diameter smaller than that required by the assembly by screws. It is of course also possible to provide additional fixing by an appropriate arrangement of the winding mechanism. The assembly can be further reinforced by gluing the rim 10 in the groove 4.
