Method and device for controlling the movement of a continuous wire or thread
The subject of the invention is a method for controlling the movement of a continuous wire or thread, in which the wire or thread is wound onto a roller reel and unwound from it again, the reel having a wedge-like groove on its circumference, the side walls of which are inwardly converge to form an acute angle, and a device for carrying out this process.
Many manufacturing operations relate to the supply of wire or thread to or from spools, or those where wire e.g. B. is drawn through enamelling or other apparatus.
Normally, the wire feed speed is regulated by passing all or part of the wire over a measuring wheel that rotates at a controllable speed. In some cases the measuring element remains stationary and the material is fed onto the measuring element via idle rollers that rotate around the measuring element at an adjustable speed. Where precise control of the feed speed is required, it is of the utmost importance that the material is fed over the measuring instrument without slippage. Various aids, e.g. B.
Rubber wheels, flexible belts, or magnetic devices that press the fed material against the measuring instrument have been proposed to prevent undesirable sliding, but few of them work entirely satisfactorily and serve the desired purpose; particular difficulties arise when the wire being fed is subjected to variable tension.
Furthermore, most known prior art devices require some minimum voltage to be present on entry into the device and others require a minimum voltage to be present on exit from the apparatus.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a method and a device which enable the feeding of wire or thread to be controlled at a precisely controllable speed without damaging the material being fed.
The inventive method for controlling the movement of a continuous wire or thread, in which the wire or thread is successively wound onto a roller reel and unwound from it again, the reel having a wedge-like groove on its circumference, the side walls of which are inwardly formed converging at an acute angle, characterized in that two parts of the wire or thread located at a distance in the longitudinal direction lie together in a segment of the roller reel groove and are guided laterally through the side walls of the groove so that they are within the limits of said segment in radial One over the other,
that a section of the wire or thread lying between the two superimposed sections is guided over a guide element arranged at a distance from the reel reel and the interior of said sections runs onto the latter in the space between the guide element and the reel reel or leaves it, and that in the outer a tension is generated between the two sections in order to bring the inner section into firm and clamping frictional connection with the roller reel groove.
The device for carrying out this method is characterized according to the invention in that a roller reel, which has a wedge-like groove on its circumference with side walls converging inwards to form an acute angle, and a guide member mounted on a carrier at a distance from the reel are provided and that one of the parts reel reel or guide member is rotatably arranged around the reel axis in order to wind up and unwind the wire or thread from the reel reel, the whole thing in such a way that a wire or thread moving through the device runs in a path in which a first Part of the wire or thread runs into the roller reel groove, a second,
to the first adjoining section runs around the reel for less than 3600 meters and is clamped in the latter by the converging side walls of the groove. a third, adjoining the second part is held by the guide member at a distance from the roller reel groove and the first part and finally a fourth, adjoining the third part runs around the reel, over at least part of the arc length on which it is between the side walls of the roller reel groove in order to lie in the radial direction over the second section and exert pressure on the latter when this fourth section is tensioned.
Some embodiments of the invention are shown in the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a downstream device in which a rotating measuring wheel is used to draw the wire from a source which provides a steady resistance to the wire to give tension to the wire being fed into the device;
Figure 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Figure 3;
FIG. 3 shows a partial section on an enlarged scale, the line 3-3 of FIG. 1;
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 1, but is a payoff device that controls the speed of the wire traveling to a tension-sharing take-up mechanism;
5 shows a side view of an unwinding device as a partial section. in which a stationary measuring element is used;
FIG. 6 shows a horizontal section through the line 6-6 of FIG.
The winding device of Fig. 1 is used to pull the wire through a schematically illustrated apparatus 8 which applies a certain tension to the wire. The device consists of a frame 9 and a rotating measuring wheel, which is designated as a whole with 10, which is firmly connected to a shaft rotatably mounted on the frame 9 and which can be operated at a controllable speed by any drive means (not shown).
The frame 9 also carries an idle roller 12, which lies in the same plane and at a certain distance from the measuring wheel, which is referred to as a roller reel based on the wire drawing terminology.
Both the reel reel 10 as well as the idler roller 12 are provided with grooves on the circumference which receive the wire in the manner described below.
The reel reel 10 is constructed from two coaxial disks 15 and 16 placed side by side, between which the reel reel groove is formed. From Fig. 3 it can be seen that the disk 15 rests with a flat surface against the disk 16, while a bevel 17 is made on the circumference of the disk 16 in order to create a groove with the opposite surface of the disk 15 on both sides, the sides of which gradually Incline to converge towards the inside of the reel reel.
The disks 15 and 16 are held together by means of screws 19.
For the description of the wire feed to the reel reel 10 and the idle roller 12, it is assumed that the wire consists of a section 20 to be inserted and a section 21 to be removed. The first runs out of the resistance-generating apparatus 8 and is introduced into the device at the top left (FIGS. 1 and 2) and runs over part of the reel 10 and the idler roller 12. The second end leaves the idler roller again via part of the reel before it leaves the device. As is shown in Fig. 2, sections 20 and 21 extend with equal lengths in the groove 18. In the groove segment which receives such equally long pieces of wire, the section 20 comes to lie over the part 21, i. H. that a tensile force in the incoming wire pushes the section 21 radially inward and consequently wedges between the converging sides of the grooves.
The greater the resistance that is opposed to the feed movement of the wire, the more the entering section 20 will be tensioned, which in turn causes the inward force on the part 21 and the pressure acting through the groove walls 18 on the part 21 grow. The angle between the walls of the groove 18 will determine the relationship between the tensile stress in the section 20 and the force with which the section is pressed. In the case of a device for the supply of hard-drawn steel wire, a groove with an opening angle of approximately 15-200 is preferably proposed. This convergence will produce sufficient clamping action to tear the fed wire in the event of a sudden interruption in movement.
In this case, the piece of wire 21 can easily free itself from the groove, because the pressure exerted by the section 20 is eliminated. The relief begins at the point where the part 20 leaves the groove 18 in order to change over to the idler roller 12.
Fig. 4 shows the devices of FIGS. 1-3 when they are used to control the drive speed of a wire which, as in the example, goes through a schematically illustrated apparatus 23 and from there to a driven coil 24. In this case, the wire piece 20 comes to the bottom of the roller reel groove 10 to lie. The running away piece 21 is then over the part 20 and the tension in the wire 21, caused by the driven coil, now causes the section 20 between the Walls of the roller reel groove is wedged. The greater the tension in the piece of wire 21, the more the part 20 is pressed onto the reel. with the result that the running speed of the wire depends on the speed of rotation of the reel, which in turn depends on a suitable one
Kind can be controlled.
It should be noted that in both applications, see Sect. 1-4, that piece of wire that is exposed to an externally acting train always comes to rest in the groove 18 over the other wire; as a result of his
Tension it presses this other wire forcefully between the inwardly converging groove walls.
The consequence of this is that this strong, non-skid clinging of the inner wire piece to the reel occurs, regardless of whether this inner wire has tensile stress or not. If the device is used as a winding device with external tension acting on the incoming wire, the wire can exit the device free of any tension. If the device is used as an unwinding device with an externally imposed tension on the exiting wire, the incoming piece of wire can be kept completely tension-free.
The apparatus shown in Figures 5 and 6 can be used to pull a wire through any processing or treatment device and then roll the wire onto spools for packaging or other purposes. It consists of a stationary reel 25, constructed similarly to the reel 10, with an inwardly convergent groove 26 seated on the circumference. In contrast to the reel 10, however, the reel 25 is stationary and is rigidly connected to a support frame 27.
A hollow shaft 28 which is rotatable about the roller reel axis and which can be set in motion at a controllable speed in any suitable manner is also carried by this support frame.
In the picture, this shaft 28 is set in motion by means of reduction gears 29-30.
At the lower end of the shaft 28, held by a bracket 31, there is an arm 32 which is arranged below the roller reel 25 and extends diametrically beyond it. One idler roller 33 and 34 are each rotatably attached from the ends of the arm 32. Each of them is also provided with a groove on the perimeter to guide the wire.
The incoming piece of wire 35 is introduced into the hollow shaft 28 via a rotatable idler roller 36 fastened in a suitable manner to the frame 27. The piece of wire is guided by this shaft over a guide roller 37, which is mounted on the arm 32, and from there goes around the idler roller 33. From here the wire leaves the roller 33 and comes into the roller reel groove 26 on part of the pay-off reel circumference and leaves it again via the idle roller 34. The wire already leaves this roller 34 as an exit piece 38, which is again guided into the roller reel groove, namely on the side opposite the section 35, goes through it under the wire 35 to
Point where this leaves the reel via roller 34.
The device according to FIGS. 5 and 6 shows an application in which the hollow shaft 28 and the arm 32 rotate clockwise (FIG. 6), as a result of which the rotating roller 33 pulls the wire through the hollow shaft and winds it around the pay-off reel. At the same time, the rotating idler roller 34 gradually separates the two pieces of wire in order to free the departing portion 38 from the inward force exerted on it by the portion 35. After that, the outgoing end falls out of the groove; it is preferably carried away in front of the adjacent arm end 32 in order to achieve a wiping effect.
For the sake of clarity, the wire is drawn thicker in the drawings compared to the diameter of the reels than it normally is in practice, at least for the cases where it is bare and relatively stiff wire.
The shape of the roller reel groove in the axial section mostly depends on the type of material fed. It is obvious that the ratio of the clamping effect, triggered by the inwardly converging groove walls, to the inwardly directed pressure, exerted by the outer piece of wire, increases the more the opposite sides are parallel.
It is possible to keep the angle between the groove walls so small that the inner piece of wire can no longer release itself from the pressed position, even if the pressure from the outer wire ceases; but in most cases, especially where the device is used as a winder to deliver the wire in a completely tension-free form, such a design is undesirable because it would require a device to release the wire from the clamped position.
The greater the coefficient of friction between the fed material and the groove walls, the smaller the clamping force must be. For some materials, the sides of the grooves can be parallel; In this case, the clamping force is generated only by the outer piece of wire, which presses the inner part against the groove base or into the curve between the cylindrical groove base and a flat side wall. In this case it is of course necessary that the groove is narrow enough to maintain the required radial overlap of the two pieces of wire.
Greater tensile force or even more security against sliding between the inner wire and the roller reel can be achieved without the angle between the groove walls decreasing by increasing the segment over which the two wire pieces touch each other by moving the idle roller or rollers.
If a reel groove, which becomes narrower towards the inside, is formed between two disc-like elements placed next to one another, as shown in FIG. 3, this has the advantage of correcting the wear effect that aims to reduce the diameter of the inner wire piece. If material is removed from the groove walls and also from that part of the tapered element 16 which engages element 15, wear on the groove walls can be avoided and the groove can maintain its normal diameter.
Since the two wire pieces have radii of curvature which differ by a wire diameter, it is clear that the outer piece tries to slide on the inner one during the operation of the device, that is to say also relative to the reel. In practice, however, it has been shown that this sliding is irrelevant, neither in terms of size nor in terms of the effect on the material supplied.
