Wooden panel with plastic cladding, method for producing the same and device for carrying out the method
It is already known to cover plywood and chipboard panels with plastic in order to protect the wooden substrates from water and other damaging influences. Here, a sheet or plate made of plastic, for example PVC, is completely glued to one side of the plate, and the plate edges are provided with special plastic strips.
The production of these panels is very expensive and can not be used for large panels that are exposed to large temperature differences, as is particularly true for facade panels, since the thermal expansions in the plastic cladding are very different and therefore bend and crack in the plastic panel or to uncontrollable detachment of the plastic cladding from the plate. It is also known to vacuum thin plastic film onto smaller parts, but this process is limited to smaller pieces such as chair backs, seats, suitcases, cases and the like.
It is the aim of the present invention to provide a wood panel with plastic cladding and a method for its production while avoiding the disadvantages mentioned for any panel size. The wooden panel according to the invention is characterized in that the plastic cladding is only connected to the wooden panel in places. Thanks to this design, the wooden panel serving as a base and the cladding can breathe and work freely, and yet the wooden panel is protected from damaging influences, in particular the ingress of water. The plastic cladding can preferably be drawn over the edge surfaces of the wooden panel and anchored to the same, so that the edge surfaces are also protected from the ingress of moisture. The edge surfaces can be profiled, e.g.
B. be provided with tongue and groove, and the plastic cladding can be adapted to the profile of the edge surfaces in such a way that abutting panels with complementary profiled edge surfaces can be connected, for example with tongue and groove, the two plastic cladding lying against each other in the joint produce the required joint seal.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing.
Fig. 1 is a schematic side view of an apparatus for producing the panel according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross-section through part of the device of Fig. 1 with the housing removed and on a larger scale, and
Figures 3 and 4 show embodiments of the finished clad panel.
In the manufacturing device according to FIG. 1, a prepared wood panel 1, for example a plywood panel or a chipboard panel, is passed through the processing line from right to left. It is possible, in a continuous production process, to connect the processing line according to FIG. 1 directly to the production device for the chipboard. A supply roll 2 of a suitable plastic film is arranged above the plate 1, from which the plastic film 3 is continuously peeled off and placed on the plate 1 around a guide roller 4. A schematically illustrated adhesive application device 5 simultaneously sprays a suitable adhesive, for example a contact adhesive, from nozzles onto a central zone of the plate 1 and the plastic film 3.
If necessary, the edge surfaces of the board 1 are also provided with glue by means of nozzles (not shown). Instead of nozzles, application rollers for applying the adhesive can also be present.
The plate 1 provided with the glue and the plastic film 3 then enters a conveying device 6 which, in the exemplary embodiment shown, has three pairs of interacting conveying rollers 7 and pressure rollers 8. As FIG. 2 shows, the conveying rollers 7 are roughened so that they ensure that the plate 1 is carried along well, while the pressure rollers 8 resting on the plastic film 3 have a smooth surface. However, it is of course also possible to use profiled, optionally heated, pressure rollers 8 in order to achieve a pattern on the plastic film.
As shown in Fig. 2, the width of the plastic film 3 exceeds the width of the wooden plate 1, and the laterally protruding edges of the plastic film 3 run behind the conveyor 6 between plates 9 which are connected to a high-frequency generator, not shown. The processing line finally has a schematically illustrated pressing device 10, which serves to press the protruding edges of the plastic film 3 against the edge surfaces of the plate 1. When using weaker plastic foils of, for example, 0.2 to 1 mm, it is advisable to use rollers as pressure elements, while with plastic foils over 1 mm, appropriately shaped press jaws can be used, under which the foil slides, and against the edge surfaces of plate 1 is pressed.
If the edge surfaces are profiled according to FIG. 2, for example provided with tongue and groove, the pressure rollers or press jaws have an adapted profile in order to place the plastic film snugly against the profile shape of the edge surfaces.
The method of operation of the manufacturing device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is largely evident from the above. As already mentioned, the plastic film 2 and the plate 1 are only provided with adhesive in a central zone and possibly also on the edge surfaces in the case of narrow strips, so that when the film is pressed against the top of the plate 1 in the conveyor 6 and against the edge surfaces of the plate 1 in the pressing device 10, the film is only connected to a strip-shaped zone in the middle of the top of the plate. When passing between the plates 9 of the high-frequency heating, the protruding edges of the plastic film 3 are heated and softened so that they can still undergo the necessary plastic deformation and pressing against the profile in the pressing device 10.
Because the plastic film is only connected to the plate 1 in places, the two parts connected to one another can work independently of one another, which eliminates the risk of warping or tearing of the plate. Nevertheless, the plastic film is sufficiently securely connected to the wooden panel, especially if the edge surfaces of the wooden panel are profiled. The plastic cladding does not need to be glued to the edge surfaces, which promotes independent dilation between the wooden panel and the cladding.
If individual plates of limited length are treated in the device described, the plastic film 3 can be placed and cut off at the end of the plate so that it also protrudes at the two ends of the plate, and the film edges protruding at the end edge surfaces can subsequently be folded over and with the End edge surfaces are glued. Unnecessary film parts can be cut away at the edges and then the film edges can be welded together. In the case of continuous production, the plate is cut into sections of the desired length after it has emerged from the pressing device 10. If, in this case, a plastic cladding is also desired on the end edge surfaces, this cladding must be attached subsequently and welded to the rest of the cladding.
In very many cases, however, it is not necessary to clad the end edges at all.
The panels provided with complementary profiled edge surfaces can be joined together as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the plastic cladding lying on top of one another in the joint forming a labyrinth-like seal so that the joints are also absolutely tight. It is thus possible to use the panels as facade panels, paneling exposed to the weather and the like. The plates can be changed at any time. They are impact-resistant, chemical-resistant, waterproof and very easy to clean. The thickness of the cladding depends on the special requirements and can be 0.2-5 mm.
Instead of the high-frequency heating shown, it is also possible to use radiant heating by means of heated plates.
The adhesive application can also be applied evenly in places by z. B. intermittently acting application nozzles are arranged over the entire width of the processing line.
The pressure rollers can be adjustable transversely to the direction of passage.
