La fig. 1 est une vue, en perspective, de l'ensemble du porte skis monté sur le :toit d'une voiture automobile; La fig. 2 est une vue, à grande échelle, d'une extré mité d'un support- et sa fixation sur le toit de la voiture; La fig. 3 est une vue en coupe suivant la ligne III-III de la fig. 2;
La fig.4 est une vue partiellement en coupe, à grande échelle, suivant la ligne IV-IV de la fig. 1; La fig. 5 est une vue en coupe verticale suivant la ligne V-V de la fig. 4; La fig. 6 est une vue en coupe horizontale suivant la ligne VI VI de la fig. 4; La fig.7 est une vue partiellement en coupe, à grande échelle, suivant la ligne VII-VII de la fig. 2;
The present invention relates to a ski carrier for a motor car comprising two crossbars for mounting on the roof of said car,
characterized in that each end of said cross members comprises a lateral support with a rest foot in the bottom of a roof gutter of said car and a rete = bare hook resting under said gutter, in that blocks, in one material of the flexibility and elasticity of hard rubber are threaded on the crossbars and present on the top of the receiving notches respectively of skis and poles, and,
in that the levers for fixing the skis and poles are articulated, by one of their ends, on the top of each of the two cross members in the vicinity of the middle thereof, and are provided, at their other end, with attachment means to said corresponding lateral support.
The attached drawing shows an embodiment and a variant of the ski carrier for a motor car which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the entire ski rack mounted on the: roof of a motor car; Fig. 2 is a view, on a large scale, of one end of a support and its attachment to the roof of the car; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line III-III of FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a view partially in section, on a large scale, along the line IV-IV of FIG. 1; Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line V-V of FIG. 4; Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view taken along line VI VI of FIG. 4; FIG. 7 is a view partially in section, on a large scale, along the line VII-VII of FIG. 2;
Fig. 8 is a view of a variant of FIG. 3. The ski carrier assembly on the roof of a motor car, shown in fig. 1, comprises a pair of identical supports or crosspieces 1 and 2 fixed transversely to the roof 3 of a motor car.
The two supports 1 and 2 are identical. Each support comprises two lateral slides 6, 7 (see also figs. 3 to 6) of which the neighboring parts of the opposite ends are notched at 6b (fig. 4) and are slidably mounted on a central slides 8.
The two lateral slides 6, 7 on the one hand, and the central slide 8, on the other hand, have mating profiles of generally U-shaped section nested one inside the other (fig. 4), the ends the wings of these sections being suitably curved such that all of these three slides form a telescopic cross member of length adjustable to the width of the roof 3 of the car on which the ski carrier is to be mounted.
The inner end of each of the two lateral slides 6 or 7 is engaged in a housing 11 or 12, respectively, and passes through only one of the faces of said housing. Thus, the inner end of the side slide 6 passes through the face 11a housing 11 (Fig. 6) through an opening 11b of appropriate section,
the end face of said slide lying against an interior shoulder 11c of said block in the vicinity of face 11b of said block opposite to its face 11a.
On the other hand, the central slideway 8, which slides inside the two lateral slides 6 and 7, passes right through the housing 11, through its faces 11a and 11b, in corresponding openings 11e and 11f.
The immobilization of the inner end of each of the two lateral slides 6 and 7, on the central slide 8, takes place inside the corresponding box 11 or 12, by means of a locking system. consisting of a screw 15 and a plate 16. The screw 15 is mounted, by its threaded part, in a corresponding central threaded hole of the plate 16 and its end, in the form of a cup 17 with sharp edges, is applied against the face inside of the central slide 8.
The plate 16, of generally rectangular shape, has two edges located along the interior faces of the side walls of the central slideways 8 and two other edges located against the interior face of the walls 11 a and 11 d of the housing 11.
The plate 16 also has two tenons 16a, 16b engaged, respectively, in two slots 11g and 11h formed in the two walls 11a and 11d, respectively, of the housing 11; so as to be centered inside said housing, without running the risk of rubbing and causing jamming against the internal faces of the side walls of the central slide 8, during the length adjustment of the assembly.
When the screw 15 is tightened, its cup-shaped end 17 becomes embedded in the lower face of the upper wall of the central slide 8, by resting, by means of the plate 16, on the one hand against the upper face 8a of the curved end of each of the two wings of the central slideways 8, and on the other hand, against the edge 6a of the upwardly curved edge of the two wings of the lateral slideways 6, with a view to:
increase the adhesion of the plate 16 against the faces 6a, 8a of the slides; the corresponding marginal parts of its lower face are knurled as indicated at 16c in fig. 6.
The interior of the housing 12 (fig. 1) is fitted in the same way as the interior of the casing 11, so as to allow the slide to be locked. corresponding side 7, on the central slide 8.
The outer end of each of the two side slides 6 and 7 is fixed by rivets 21 (Fig. 3) to the corresponding side walls of a side support 23 of corresponding U-shaped horizontal section.
The side support 23 is itself carried by a foot 24 (see also Figs. 1 and 2) consisting of a plate comprising an elongated portion 25 which extends in a general direction from top to bottom, against the inner face of the core 23a of the lateral support @ 23 and the lower part of which is in the form of a fork with two branches 26, 27 terminated by two protective end caps 28, 29, respectively,
made of suitable plastic.
The foot 24 is fixed to the support 23 by a screw 31, the threaded part of which is mounted in a corresponding threaded hole in the part 25 of the foot and freely passes through a longitudinal slot 23b of the core 23a of the lateral support, in such a way that the foot 24 can be lowered more or less, relative to the lateral support 23, for the height adjustment of the ski support relative to the top of the roof 3 of the car, when the two branches 26,
27 of the foot- rest in the gutter 32 of the roof of the car.
By tightening the screw 31, the foot 24 is immobilized with respect to the corresponding lateral support.
In addition, the width of the part 25 of the foot is smaller than the width of the lateral support 23, so that said support and, consequently, the whole of the ski carrier 1, can be pivoted around of the axis of the screw 31, relative to the foot 24, the fork of which rests, by the ends of its two arms 26 and 27, in the bottom of the corresponding gutter, which makes it possible to have the ski support. 1 in a vertical plane,
whatever the local inclination of the roof gutter of the car at the location of the support leg 24. A spacer rod 35 (FIG. 3) riveted to the two flanges of the lateral support 23 ,. in the vicinity, of the lower part. thereof, maintains the foot 24 against the inner face of the core 23a of said support.
Each foot, such as 24, is kept applied in the bottom of the corresponding gutter by a system which comprises a hook 41 whose end is lined with plastic-overmolded protective material 42 and which is fixed by a pivot 43 against the part. lower part of a cover 44, also of U-shaped section, capable of fitting onto the corresponding lateral support 23.
The pivot 43 is in the form of a rivet provided with a stamped washer 45 ensuring elastic clamping of the hook 41 against the cover.
The cover 44 is connected to the lateral support 23 by an articulation system exceeding dead center constituted by an elbow pin 47 (see fig. 2 and 3) in the general shape of U, of which the curved ends 47a, 4.7b, are each engaged in one of a series of several (three in the example) holes 48 made in the side walls of the cover 44, which allows adjustment as a function of the thickness of the gutter which must support the ski rack,
the core of said bent axis being mounted to pivot about a horizontal geometric axis in a clamp 49 clamped against the outer face of the core 23a of the support 23 by the same screw 31 which is already used to fix said support on the foot 24. Two tongues 49a, 49b of the bracket 49 are housed in the groove 23b of the support 23.
The two lateral branches of the bent axis 47 each have an S-shape which gives them a hundred or so elasticity capable of ensuring correct attachment of the support to the gutter.
The bent axis 47 is, in addition, braked, on the one hand, by clamping in the caliper 49 and, on the other hand, against the edges of the holes 48 of the cover 44, by its lateral elasticity, which allows said cover to keep in the disengaged position shown in lines. mixes in fig. 3 and facilitates the installation of the ski rack on the roof of the car and its removal.
The hook 41 engages under the gutter, the assembly being shown in FIG. 3, in the hooked position, in the section in solid lines, and in the unhooked position shown in broken lines.
An anti-theft system for fixing the support on the gutter consists of a rotary lock 51 which comprises an oblong-shaped tenon 52 (Fig. 2 and 3) integral with a core 54 pivotally mounted in. the upper part of the cover 44, in line with the groove 23b.
of the lateral support 23, said tenon being substantially of the same width as said groove, but of a length greater than the width of the reinforcement such that, when in is in an angular position for which i1 lies lengthwise in this groove , it enters freely therein or leaves it, when the cover is rotated to bring it from one to the other of the two positions shown in FIG. 3, while on the contrary,
when it occupies an angular position for which it is trailing relative to said groove, it locks the cover on the support, in the hooked position.
The rotary latch 51, made of plastic; is pivotally mounted, with hard friction; in the hood, so that it can only be turned with a key having er gots penetrating into corresponding recesses 54, according to any combination of desired safety, number, configuration and arrangement. In fig. 7, an identical wheel worm 51a is shown, in section, in a position offset by 9Q relative to that of the latch 51, and mounted at another location on the ski carrier.
On the side cross members of the two supports 1 and 2 are threaded, on the one hand, ski support blocks 61 (fig. 1) and pole support blocks, 62, made of hard rubber or similar material having a certain degree of softness. plesse and elasticity. Each of these blocks consists of a base threaded onto the corresponding slideway, said base being extended upwards by two branches, the entire block having the form of a yoke between the branches of which the skis or skis can be threaded. sticks.
Each ski support block 61 comprises, on the one hand, a lower blade 61a in the form of a bridge (fig. 3) and two partitions 6-1b in height, preferably oblique, which ensure the retention of a pair of skis 63 threaded flat, one against the other, between said partitions 61b of a block 61 mounted on the support 1 and of an identical block mounted on the support 2, as shown in FIG. 1.
Each stick support block 62 also has two partitions: or vertical ribs 62a facing each other and also arranged in oblique vertical planes, so as to clamp against a pair of sticks such as 65 threaded into a block 62 of the support 1 and in a block 62 of the support 2, the wrist straps 66 of the sticks being threaded onto one of the blocks 62, so as to ensure longtudinal retention of said sticks.
The skis and poles are prevented from coming out, upwards, by means of levers 71, 72, mounted on the support 1, and levers 73, 74 ,. mounted on the support 2.
The four fixing levers are identical, and present, like the lever 71, an end bent at right angles 71 has pivotally mounted in a sleeve 77 and immobilized in translation, in the latter, by a nut 78 mounted on the part. threaded end, thinned for this purpose, 79, of said lever.
The upper part of the sleeve 77 has a head 81 mounted in a housing 82, formed in the top of the corresponding housing 11, which has two parallel faces 82a, 82b against which can slide two corresponding parallel faces 81a, 81b of the head 81, said faces being vertical faces parallel to the longitudinal axis of the assembly of the ski support 1 or 2.
One of the other faces of the recess 82 is in the form of a portion of a cylindrical surface, 82c, FIG. 5, the axis of which is on the opposite face, at point 82d, and the head 81 has a corresponding convex face 81c in contact with the concave face 82c of the recess, such that the end 71a of the lever fixing of the skis and the sleeve 77, in which it is mounted, pivots in the vertical plane passing through the longitudinal axis of the assembly of the support 1 around point 82d, in the direction of arrow f,
from the position shown in fig.5, to a substantially vertical position, (fig. 1).
A conical coil spring 85 bears, by its small lower end, against the nut 78 and, by its large upper end, against an inner shoulder 86 of the housing 11, so as to resiliently urge the end. 71a of the fixing lever to an inclined opening position, as shown, for the lever 73, in FIG. 1. If the lever 73 is lowered, against the force of its conical return spring, it is brought into the horizontal closed position occupied by the lever 71.
When the lever is raised, canopies and sticks can be conveniently placed in or removed, this maneuver being furthermore facilitated by the fact that it is possible to bring the corresponding levers in a direction perpendicular to the each cross member, as shown in fig. 1 for the lever 74, by simply pivoting the latter in the corresponding sleeve 77, the hardness of this pivoting movement being able to be adjusted at will, by the more or less pronounced tightening of the nut 78.
Each lever is closed and locked by means of a latch 51a (fig. 1, 2 and 7) of identical structure to that of the latch 51 of the hooking cover, said latch 51a being mounted in a handle 91, on the latch. 'free end of the lever 71, the elongated worm member 52 cooperating with a hole 93 of corresponding shape (fig. 2) made in the upper part of the web of the corresponding lateral support 23 (see also fig. 3). ).
The handle 91 is mounted so as to be able to slide ser, of a short length, on the corresponding end of the lever 71 and is subjected to the action of a helical return spring 94, one end of which bears against a shoulder 95 of the handle 91, and the other at the end, against an elastic ring 96 housed in a corresponding annular groove of the lever 71. The spring 95 therefore tends to apply the inner face of the handle 91 against the lateral support 23.
Such a ski carrier for a motor car has many advantages: Thanks to the possibility of adjustment, after loosening the hidden screws 15 (FIG. 4-6), its width can be adapted to that of the roofs of all the cars.
It is possible, after loosening the hidden screws 31 (fig. 3), to adjust its height in a simple and rapid manner, so as to reduce to a minimum the space between the ski rack and the roof of the car, as that this is either flat or rounded. In the drawings, it is shown in solid lines at its minimum height, and in broken lines in FIG. 2, at its maximum height.
Thanks to the possible pivoting of the feet 24 around the screws 31 (FIG. 3), each support 1 and 2 can be oriented in a vertical plane, which improves the aesthetics of the support and ensures better support for the skis and the poles. In the event of accidental bearing by bending of the cross member on the roof, the latter is not damaged, because the contact occurs through the blocks of flexible and elastic material.
The installation and removal of the ski carrier is done very quickly, since the assembly is simply placed in the gutter of the roof of the car and held in place by the hooks operated by means of the elastic toggle covers 44.
It can be mounted on gutters of any thickness, choosing the one with suitable holes 48 (fig. 3) for threading the ends of the elbow pins 47.
The lock 51 a of each fixing lever constitutes an anti-theft device for skis and poles, and the bolts 51 an anti-theft device for the whole assembly on the roof of the car.
The skis are suitably immobilized laterally by the deformable ribs of the rubber blocks 61 and vertically by the also deformable bridges 61a.
The sticks are immobilized laterally and vertically by the deformable walls 62a of the blocks 62 which support them and longitudinally by the straps 66.
It is possible to quickly change the number and arrangement of the ski blocks and pole blocks threaded onto the crossbars. Thus, for example, we can equip the set with six ski-holder blocks and ale six pole-holder blocks, or, in a single variant, eight ski-holder blocks and two pole-holder blocks. .
The ski and pole holder units can be placed as close as possible to the edges of the car, that is to say in the locations which are most conveniently accessible.
The fixing levers are convenient for closing and opening and it is possible to retract them lengthwise, as shown at 74 in fig. 1.
The design of the assembly eliminates any risk of blocking of the mechanism under the effect of humidity or frost.
The whole assembly is protected against corrosion by the fact that it is made of materials such as aluminum alloys, stainless steel, or protected by a cadmium coating, or by the use of plastic material. wherever it is useful or necessary.
The whole is sturdy, yet flexible, so as to absorb accidental shocks.
It does not have any sharp angles liable to cause slight injuries: to the user or tears to his clothing.
It does not have any side projections liable to cause a serious accident such as hooking up of a post, or possible unhooking of the ski carrier, since the latter does not have any elements projecting from the roof of the car.
Since the closing handles 91 are made of plastic material, unpleasant contact of the hands on the metal parts is avoided in very cold weather when the skis are fitted and removed.
Finally, the whole is elegant and has curved lines that harmonize with the curve of modern cars.
In fig. 8 is shown a variant of FIG. 3 and the same parts are designated by the same reference numbers, analogous parts by the same numbers, but with an accent.
This variant is distinguished in particular by the fact that the latch 51 'of the handle 44' instead of hooking to the lateral support 23, is hooked to the bracket 49 'in which the elbow pin 47' pivots. In addition, the shapes of the handle 44 ', of the yoke 49' and of the elbow pin 47 'are modified from those of the corresponding parts of the embodiment of FIG. 3.
