Description

Method for closing a container and containers closed according to this method
The invention relates to a method for closing an opening of a container with the aid of a closure element, in which at least the contact surfaces of the container and the closure element consist of a plastic.

The method according to the invention comprises measures to arrange the closure member on the opening of the container in order to bring a pressure between the closure member and the container into effect in order to rotate the closure member relative to the container so that the between the contact surfaces of the container and the closure member The frictional heat generated causes at least a part of the contact surfaces to be melted in order to interrupt this rotational movement and to maintain the applied pressure until the molten material has solidified again.

The invention also relates to a container closed with the aid of the method according to the invention.

It has been shown that the closure element can be fastened to the container very quickly with the aid of the method according to the invention if a container and a closure element are used in which at least one of the contact surfaces is provided with several annular and concentric projections.

These projections also offer the advantage that grinding dust, chips or splinters, which arise when the method is carried out, are at least partially collected between the projections, so that contamination of the container contents is largely avoided.

Any splinters or chips which nevertheless move over the projections can be retained by using a container and a closure member in which e.g. either the closure member or the container is provided with an annular protruding edge which is arranged near that boundary of the contact surface which is closest to the container opening. This annular projecting edge preferably fits unhindered into a corresponding annular groove which is formed on the closure member or on the container.

In an advantageous embodiment of the closure member and the container, at least one of the two contact surfaces has the shape of a truncated cone surface.

The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to schematic drawings of several exemplary embodiments.

FIGS. 1 to 9 each show a different embodiment of the invention in section, showing that part of the container to which the closure member is attached.

In Fig. 1 to 9, the side wall of the container is each designated by 1; at 2 one recognizes an end wall of the container, at 3 an opening in the end wall, and at 4 the closure member.

In the embodiment according to Fig. 1 the closure member, e.g. a cap 4, provided with a flat, annular contact surface 5 which can cooperate with a frustoconical contact surface 6. The contact surface 5 has a plurality of annular and concentric elevations 7. The end wall 2 of the container carries an annular protruding edge 8 which is arranged near the boundary of the contact surface 6 closest to the opening 3. The edge 8 fits into a corresponding annular groove 9 of the cap 4 with a margin.

According to FIG. 2, the end wall 2 has a frustoconical contact surface 11 with annular concentric elevations 12. The cap 4 is provided with a flat, annular contact surface 13.

An annular protruding edge 14 is formed on the boundary of the contact surface 11 closest to the opening 3. The edge 14 protrudes into a corresponding annular groove 15 of the cap or of the lid 4.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, a conical contact surface 17 is also attached to the end wall 2. On the edge of a contact surface 17 adjacent to the opening 3, an annular groove 18 is provided which receives an annular protruding edge 19 connected to the cover 4. The cover 4 has a flat, annular contact surface 20, and the counter surface 17 is provided with annular concentric elevations.

The embodiment shown in FIG. 4 also comprises a conical contact surface 23 which is connected to the end wall 2 and which can work together with a conical contact surface of the cover 4. The contact surface 24 of the cover has annular, concentric elevations 25. In the part of the contact surface 23 adjacent to the opening 3, an annular groove 26 for receiving a projecting edge connected to the cover 4 is formed.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 5, a conical contact surface 29 is connected to the end wall 2 and provided with annular concentric elevations 30. The cover 4 has a conical contact surface 31. At the boundary of the contact surface 29 adjacent to the opening 3, an annular protruding edge 32 is provided which protrudes into an annular groove 33 of the cover.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 6, both the end wall 2 and the cover 4 are each provided with two conical contact surfaces 35 and 36 or 37 and 38. The contact surfaces 35 and 37 carry annular concentric elevations 39 and 40, respectively.

Fig. 7 shows one embodiment; in which the conical contact surfaces 42 and 43 connected to the end wall 2 and the cover 4 are provided with annular concentric elevations 44 and 45.

An annular protruding edge 46 on the circumference of the opening 3 engages behind an annular edge 47 of the cap 4.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 8, cooperating conical surfaces 49 and 50 are also provided. The contact surface 50 carries annular concentric elevations 51. An annular edge 52 adjoins the boundary of the contact surface 49 adjacent to the opening 3 and engages behind an annular edge 53 of the cover 4.

In the embodiment of FIG. 9 conical contact surfaces 54 and 55 are provided, the
Contact surface 55 carries concentric elevations 56.

A protruding annular edge 57 of the Dek angle 4 engages behind an annular edge 58 which is adjacent to the opening 3 of the boundary
Contact surface 54 connects.

To the lid liquid and gas tight on the
To fasten the container, the lid 4 is placed over the opening 3 in such a way that the contact surfaces of the
Touch the container and the lid. Pressure is then applied to the lid 4, e.g. with the help of a shaft that can be moved at right angles to the plane of the lid while it is being rotated. The free end of the shaft and the cover are designed in such a way that the cover is gripped and carried along by the shaft and therefore also rotates
For this purpose, the cover 4 can be provided with suitable recesses or projections, not shown here. While the lid 4 rotates, the container is held so that the lid rotates ge compared to the container. This arises at the

This heat causes the material to be
Contact surfaces melts to a certain extent.

As soon as the material has melted to a sufficient extent, the shaft is brought to a standstill together with the cover, while the pressure exerted on the cover is maintained for some time until the molten material has solidified again. After this has been done, the lid is connected to the container very firmly and liquid-tight and gas-tight.

Because of the presence of the annular concentric elevations, the material melts
Contact surfaces very quickly during the described work process. All chips, splinters or
Grinding dust particles that become detached from the material during the operation are essentially collected in the gaps between the annular ones
Elevations, so that they do not get to the contents of the container and contamination of the container contents is avoided.

An additional safeguard against contamination of the container contents by chips, splinters or grinding dust can be prevented by using the ring-shaped protruding edge (8, 14, 19, 27, 32, 46,
52, 58) on the delimitation of the relevant system or contact area (6, 11, 17, 23, 29; 42, 49, 54) closest to the container opening. The edge can e.g. in one of the ring grooves
9, 15, 18, 26 or 33 engage or behind the ring-shaped edge 47 or 53 or 57 reach. The front jumping edge holds back all chips, splinters, etc. that have become detached from the material of the contact surfaces, and therefore forms an additional safety device against contamination of the container.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 6, such an annular protruding edge is not provided. In this case, the contact surfaces 35
