la fig. 2 est une vue en coupe selon la ligne II-II de la fig. 1 ;
la fig. 3 est une vue schématique en plan de la plaquette de fixation de l'outil à aléser;
Handpieces for mechanical reaming of dental canals
The reaming of dental canals, after having been carried out for a long time only by hand, for example using a nerve puller, is now very often done mechanically. Mechanical boring offers the obvious advantages of speed and hygiene.
Dental handpieces are known for reaming canals which use, for example, a nerve puller mounted on a mandrel shank, which are subjected to reciprocating rotations of about 900 around their axis. The reciprocating movement is obtained from the motor shaft of the work unit, by interposing a return device comprising a fork in which slides a crankpin rotating with the motor shaft, the reciprocating movement thus communicated to the fork being returned to the tool-holder shaft by another crankpin.
Such a reference with a fork and crank pins, although it has given complete satisfaction as regards its operation, has the drawback of being bulky and of requiring a very marked extra thickness of the dental tool. This extra thickness is particularly troublesome in the case of a device mounted on a Doriot clamping handpiece, clamping used exclusively by certain countries.
Accordingly, the invention relates to a handpiece for the mechanical boring of dental canals by alternating rotation of approximately 1/4 turn of the boring tool, in which the transformation of the continuous circular motion of the motor shaft in a reciprocating circular movement is carried out with a small footprint not requiring, in particular, extra thickness of the dental tool, the device being more of simplified construction and lower cost price,
According to the invention, the handpiece comprises:
a motor shaft driving a circular plate in continuous rotation, a lug fixed to the plate in the vicinity of its periphery, a hollow circular cylinder with an axis perpendicular to the motor axis and having a groove along a generatrix which cooperates with said lug, means support for the boring tool inside said circular cylinder, and half casing enveloping the handpiece.
The invention will be better understood by referring to the following description, given by way of non-limiting example, of a contra-angle according to the invention, and to the appended drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a schematic sectional view of a contra-angle according to the invention.
fig. 2 is a sectional view along the line II-II of FIG. 1;
fig. 3 is a schematic plan view of the boring tool attachment plate;
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the contra-angle handle contains the shaft 2 directly connected to the actuating motor (not shown). The handpiece 5 is fixed to the elbow 3 of the contra-angle by a screw sleeve 4. The attachment by the sleeve 4 makes it possible to replace the handpiece 5 by any other conventional handpiece, with continuous rotation.
The handpiece 5 comprises the motor shaft 6, driven by the shaft 2 by means of a pinion 7 cooperating with the internal teeth 8 that the shaft 2 presents. On the motor shaft 6 is embedded a sleeve 9 carrying a circular plate 10. The plate 10 carries, in the vicinity of its periphery, a substantially conical stud 11.
Perpendicular to the axis of the shaft 6, and inside the housing 12 of the tool, is mounted a hollow circular cylinder 13, which has a groove 14 along a generatrix. The cylinder 13 is kept in rotation inside the casing 12, at one end by a tube 15 driven into the tool head body, and at the other end by a bearing 16 inserted in said head body.
The cylinder 13 is made integral, as will be explained below, of the boring tool 17. The stud 11 is mounted so as to slide alternately in the groove 14 when the plate 10 is in continuous rotation. There is shown in FIG. 2 one of the two end positions of the cylinder 13, the radial plane of the groove 14 forming an angle of approximately 450 with the axis of the motor shaft 6. For a diametrically opposed position of the stud 11, the groove 14 will occupy a position symmetrical with respect to this axis. In fig. 1 on the contrary, the stud 11 occupies the highest position, the plane of the groove 14 then passing through the axis of the shaft 6; the position of the groove 14 will be the same for the lowest position of the stud 11.
One thus obtains, from a continuous circular movement of rotation around the axis of the shaft 6, an alternating rotational movement around a perpendicular axis, of about 900 of displacement, of the cylinder 13 carrying the 'boring tool 17. I1 is understood that the width of the groove 14 as well as the height and profile of the stud 11 are chosen so as to ensure cooperation with a minimum of play and to prevent unhooking for the two positions of 'end of the groove 14. as shown in FIG. 2. The cone shape with curved generatrix shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 adapts particularly well to this purpose.
The boring tool 17 is advantageously a tirenerfs mounted on a conventional mandrel shank 18. The mandrel shank 18 is held inside the cylinder 13 in the tube 15. The cylinder 13 is closed at its upper part at 19 and has an orifice 20 for the passage of the end 21 of the mandrel shank 18. The orifice 20 has a rectilinear face 22 which cooperates with a flat 23 of the end 21. This ensures a rotational solidarity of the mandrel shank 18, and therefore of the tool 17, with the drive cylinder 13.
The mandrel shank is prevented from sliding along the axis of cylinder 13 by a locking plate 24 (Fig. 3). The plate 24 has an elongated opening 25 terminated by a bore 26 of increased diameter. In the extension of the opening 25, on the side of the bore 26, there is a circular bore 27. The bore 27 serves for the passage of a screw 28 which fixes the plate 24 on an operating part 29, having a aliasing 30 and subjected to the action of a spiral spring 31 housed in a recess 32 of the housing 12. The elongated opening 25 cooperates with the end 21 of the mandrel shank 18, which has for this purpose a circular groove 33 To introduce the tool 17, the operating part 29, and therefore the plate 24, is pushed back by pushing on the aliasing 30, to the left in FIG. 1, against the action of the spring 31.
The bore 26 is thus brought opposite the end 21 and the latter can be introduced into the bore 26 which has a diameter greater than that of the end 21, by releasing the operating part 29, the latter returns to its position of FIG. 1, under the action of the spring 31, the mandrel shank 18 is then prevented from disengaging from the plate 24, the groove 33 cooperating with the elongated opening 25 which is of width slightly greater than the diameter of the circular groove 33 while being smaller than the diameter of the mandrel shank 18.
A handpiece has thus been produced for the mechanical boring of dental canals, by a reciprocating rotational movement of the boring tool, preferably a nerve puller, which is reliable in operation and of attractive cost price and which can be mounted on a conventional contra-angle.
