Process for the production of foamable polyamides which are at least partially soluble in sulfuric acid and which are at least partially soluble in sulfuric acid Condensation, but no significant foam formation, occurs until the condensates formed are at least partially soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid.
It is also known that polyamides can be produced by polycondensing ammonium salts from dicarboxylic acids and N-alkylol polyamines. This creates cross-linked, particularly tough polycondensates, possibly with vesicular gas inclusions, but no technically usable foams.
A process has now been developed for the production of polyamides which are foamable by heating to temperatures above 270 ° C. and are at least partially soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid by polycondensation of polyamides by linking

-Bindings linear polyamides forming starting materials, which are selected from dicarboxylic acid diamine salts, aminocarboxylic acids and lactams, found at temperatures of 150 to 240 C under nitrogen in the presence of blowing agents and crosslinking agents, which is characterized in that as Propellant oxamic acid or oxamic acid ester and diaurin, which is present in free form or in salt form and has at least one N-bonded group of the formula HO- (RO) nR-,
wherein R is a divalent alkane radical and n is the number zero or an integer greater than zero, used, the sum of the amounts by weight of said blowing agent and said crosslinking agent, the latter calculated as free diaurin, 1 to 15 / o of the amount by weight of said starting materials forming linear polyamides.
As polyamide-forming starting materials you can, for. B. adipic acid hexamethylenediamine, sebacic acid res hexamethylenediamine or suberic acid octamethylenediamine, also w-aminocarboxylic acids, z. B.
Use aminocaproic acid, caprolactam, oenanthlac- tam or capryllactam or mixtures of different polyamide formers.
As diamines with at least one N-bonded group of the formula HO- (RO) nR-,% where R is a divalent alkane radical and n is the number zero or an integer greater than zero, the reaction products of alkylene oxides and aldehydes are usually found with aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic diamines, conveniently in the form of dicarboxylic acid salts, use.
Mixtures are polycondensed which contain 1 to 15 of the weight of the polyamide formers in oxamic acid or oxamic acid esters and N-oxyalkyldiamines. The mechanical properties, for example the hardness and the specific weight of the foam body, which can be produced from the foamable masses according to the method not claimed here, depend heavily on the amount and the ratio of the two components. The reaction temperature for producing the foamable polyamides is preferably 180 to 240 ° C. To remove the water of reaction, the viscous mass formed during the condensation should be mixed at least temporarily.
The polycondensation is therefore carried out with a special part in heated kneaders. The viscoplastic mass initially formed can be converted into fine, expandable powder by further kneading at the reaction temperature. However, the reaction products can also be ground to powder after cooling. The foamable polyamides produced by the process of this invention can be foamed to form porous bodies by heating in an oxygen-free atmosphere to temperatures higher than their formation temperatures.
Before foaming, the expandable masses are expediently converted into powder form. In this way, plates, rods, solid and hollow bodies can be produced in a variety of shapes. The foamed bodies produced by the method not claimed here have great toughness and strength and high heat resistance.
The parts mentioned in the examples are parts by weight.
<I> Example 1 </I> 100 parts of adipic acid hexamethylenediamine, 5 parts of oxamic acid methyl ester and 6 parts of adipic acid N- (oxyethyl) -hexamethylenediamine (or 3.1 parts of free amine) are placed in a glass vessel in a nitrogen atmosphere for 2 hours 200 C heated. The viscoplastic mass produced is hard and brittle after cooling and has a K value of 35 (measured in sulfuric acid).
If the reaction mass is pulverized and heated in a mold to 270 to 280 ° C. by a process not claimed here, a foam body with a density of 0.2 g / cm3 is obtained.
<I> Example 2 </I> 100 parts of adipic acid hexamethylenediamine, 10 parts of caprolactam, 2.5 parts of oxamic acid, 2.5 parts of adipic acid N, N'-bis (oxyethyl) hexamethylene diamine (or 1.5 Parts of free amine) are, as described in Example 1, heated. From the resulting foamable mass, according to a method not claimed here, a foam body with a density of 0.23 g / cm3 is formed when heated to 275 C.
<I> Example 3 </I> 100 parts of adipic hexamethylenediamine, 2.5 parts of ethyl oxamate and 4 parts of adipic N- (oxyethyl) hexamethylenediamine (or 2.1 parts of free amine) are mixed in a kneader that can be heated by circulating oil Stainless steel heated under nitrogen. The oil supply is set to 210 C, the oil return is then about 200 C. After the water released during the polycondensation has escaped, the previously viscous mass forms a fine, loose powder over the course of about two hours with further kneading at the same temperature . It is kneaded for a further 3 hours at the same temperature, then it is cooled. The pure white powder has a K value of 36.
According to a method not claimed here, a foam sheet with a density of 0.18 g / cm3 is produced from the powder by heating it for two hours in a rectangular shape under nitrogen to <B> 275 '</B> C.
