Method of severing the top sheet from a stack of sheets that have a tendency to stick together
The present invention relates to a method of lifting the top sheet from a stack of sheets which have a tendency to stick to one another. With high-speed presses and packaging machines, the designer often faces the task of separating the sheets from one another in a supply stack. This object is generally achieved by lifting the top sheet in the stack by means of suction plates or an adhesive element. If the sheets are of such a type that they stick together as a result of electrostatic or other forces, then the above-mentioned methods cannot prevent several sheets from being carried along with each individual transfer process.
The present invention now proposes a method for solving this problem, which is characterized in that each sheet is provided with at least one hole, and the sheets are stacked on top of one another in such a way that the holes in the stack are aligned with one another and together a channel penetrating the stack form, and that in this channel a headed pin is inserted freely movable, the head of which is slightly larger than the channel cross-section, so that it rests with its underside on the top sheet of the stack, whereby the size difference between the head and holes is chosen that the force required to lift a sheet from the stack when overcoming the resistance exerted by the head is always greater than the mutual adhesion of the sheets.
Two embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawing, namely show:
Fig. 1-3 the one way in which a sheet is lifted from the stack, and
66 show the other way of doing this, in which an object is unrolled over the top sheet and the edge of the sheet, e.g. B. detected by means of a strip of glue applied to this object or this sheet.
In Fig. 1-3, a stack of sheets of film material placed one on top of the other is denoted by 1, the top sheet is denoted by 2, and the next sheet is denoted by 3. All the sheets in the stack 1 have at least one hole which together form at least one channel 4 penetrating the stack and into which a pin 5 provided with a head 6 is inserted. The latter can be freely inserted into the channel 4, while the head 6 cannot enter it. The head 6 thus always rests with its underside on the top sheet 2 of the stack. In order to now lift the sheet 2 and transfer it to a high-speed press or packaging machine (not shown), a lifting device 7 is provided, which consists of one or more suction plates, which are preferably connected to a suction pump.
If the sheets of film material are arranged in the stack 1 in such a way that at least one vertical channel penetrates the stack, the latter is placed on the magazine table of the machine, whereupon the pin or pins 5 are inserted into the channel or channels 4. In order to study in more detail what is going on during the operation, the description below is restricted to the states on one of the channels 4. If there are several holes in each sheet and thus several channels 4 are present in each stack, which can be advantageous in the case of a fairly wide sheet, the conditions are similar to those at each of the channels 4.
If the suction plate 7 lies on the top sheet 2 of the stack, as shown in Fig. 1, it adheres to this because the inside of the suction plate 7 is connected to an air pump which is located in the space between the plate 7 and the top of the Arc 2 creates a partial vacuum. Since the sheets under discussion here tend to adhere to one another, the suction plate in the case of FIG. 2 not only lifts the uppermost sheet 2, but also the sheet 3 below it.
Since the head 6 of the pin 5 inserted into the channel 4 is larger than the hole provided in the arch 2, 3, the two arches 2, 3 cannot simply be lifted over the head 6. The resistance to be overcome when lifting the sheet 2 over the head 6, i. H. The force required to widen the hole in the arch 2 probably uses the head 6 as an abutment for pulling the arch over the head 6, but otherwise depends of course on the size difference between the hole and the head, as well as on the nature of the arch material, the head shape, etc. The resistance to be overcome can, however, be adjusted relatively easily so that it is greater than the force that holds the two sheets 2, 3 together through adhesion. On the other hand, however, the head 6 should not offer such a great resistance that the grip between the suction plate 7 and the sheet 2 is lost.
Since the cohesion between the sheets 2, 3 depends entirely on electrostatic or similar adhesion phenomena, the sheet 2 is separated from the sheet 3, as shown in Fig. 3, when the sheet 2 under the influence of the force exerted by the suction plate 7 exceeds the resistance offered by the head 6. It is true that the arch 3 is pressed onto the head 6 after the arch 2 has passed it, but since the force required to overcome the resistance by the head 6 is greater than the arrest of the two arches 2, 3, the latter are separated from one another, the sheet 2 being transferred for further treatment by means of the suction plate 7, while the sheet 3 falls back onto the stack 1.
In the second example (FIGS. 4-6) for carrying out the method according to the invention, the same reference symbols are used as in the first example.
It is assumed here that an object 8 to be wrapped in the sheets of the stack 1 according to FIG. 4 is rolled over the top sheet 2 of the stack 1 so that it takes this sheet with it by means of a glue strip 9 applied to this or to the object 8.
5 shows that in addition to sheet 2, sheet 3 is also carried along by object 8 when it is unrolled. If, as shown in FIG. 6, the object 8 rolls over the head 6 of the pin 5, the two sheets 2, 3 are separated from one another, since their attachment is less than the force which is required to make the hole in the sheet 2 to pull over the head 6.
As can be seen from the above special description, the method according to the invention forms the solution to the problem which has long been sought, namely the problem of separating sheets of plastic, cellophane and the like simply and effectively. The two examples given serve only to illustrate the invention, which is obviously not restricted to these examples, but can be used in every case where sheets of film material adhering to one another are to be separated.
In addition to their function as sheet-separating means, the pins 5 also guide the sheets in such a way that the sheets lying on top of one another in the stack cannot be displaced with respect to one another. This management function is very important, since the mutual position of the sheets of packaging material and the object to be wrapped, such as. B. in automatic packaging machines, must be set so that the object and the sheet are brought together at a predetermined point and at a predetermined time. It is easy to understand that a lateral shift of the weft arches can lead to difficulties. The same obviously also applies when the sheets are to be processed further in a stack in a high-speed press or the like, whereby it is important that the starting position of the sheets is predetermined.
