Support cradle for serial packaging of ampoules,
bottles or other elongated body items
It is well known, in particular with regard to pharmaceutical products, to place the ampoules or other elongated body articles which contain them in support cradles intended to maintain and protect said ampoules from impact.
These known support cradles can be made of different materials: cardboard, plastic or other material, but whatever their constitution, the placing of the ampoules in their support cradles is generally carried out using an automatic machine. This comprises a device for supplying ampoules and a magazine for stacked support cradles, these cradles being selectively placed end to end by an appropriate mechanism and brought under the feed device by a drive member consisting mainly of a wheel. toothed whose teeth cooperate with the succession of housings and separating partitions of said cradles, in the same way moreover as if it cooperated with a rack.
Thus, for this automatic machine to be able to be implemented, it is essential that the pitch along which the housings of a support cradle are spaced apart and to which the circumferential pitch of the drive toothed wheel corresponds, be strictly constant along 'a row of several support cradles and in particular in the contact zone of two contiguous support cradles. This condition has not yet been able to be achieved with precision, when the support cradles are manufactured by shaping plastic sheets and in particular when the latter are not rigid, which requires human intervention in the supply of this material. machine or the use of a more complex drive member.
The present invention overcomes this drawback by improving these support cradles with the aim that the aforementioned packaging machine can fulfill its function automatically.
According to the invention, the end partitions of a cradle are shaped to complement one another so that the overall thickness of the contiguous end partitions of two cradles placed end to end is substantially equal to that of the intermediate partitions and , therefore, that the distance of the housings separated by these contiguous end partitions is equal to the spacing of the intermediate housings.
Embodiments of the subject of the invention are shown by way of nonlimiting examples in the accompanying drawing and are described below.

tively of Figure 6, showing the two ends

line IX-IX in figure 6.
The support cradle illustrated by Figures 1 and 2 comprises a frame 1 comprising two longitudinal membranes 2, 3 and two end transverse partitions 4, 5. The frames are profiled in
U and connected by intermediate transverse partitions 6. The partitions 4, 5 and 6 separate housings 7 regularly spaced and provided to receive pharmaceutical ampoules. These then rest on funds 8 secured to said partitions and frames. The funds are obviously shaped in correspondence with the envelope of the different types of bulbs likely to be placed there.
As emerges from the foregoing description, the conditioning must be carried out on an automatic machine comprising a drive toothed wheel, the teeth of which penetrate into the housings 7 considered to cause the continuous advancement of the support cradles placed end to end. in a queue. It is then essential, as is particularly visible in the schematic view of FIG. 3, that the distance d separating the contiguous end housings 71 and 72 of two adjacent cradles 91 and 92 of the row, is strictly equal to the pitch p of spacing of two contiguous housings 7 (fig 2) of a support cradle.
Under these conditions, the housings 7 of the support cradles of the same row are regularly spaced, including in their contact zones, so that the toothed wheel of the automatic machine drives properly and without risk of interruption all the support cradles of said file.
To obtain this result, provision is made according to the invention for the end partitions 4 and 5 of the same support cradle to be shaped to complement one another so that the overall thickness of the end partitions. contiguous Si and 42 (fig. 3) of two cradles 9l and 9 placed end to end, i.e. substantially equal to that of the intermediate partitions 6.
According to a first embodiment, the end partitions 4 and 5 could have a thickness half of that of the intermediate partitions 6. But a second embodiment is illustrated by Figures 1 to 5, because it is considered to be more advantageous in the case of in particular, where the support cradle is formed by a plastic plate capable of resuming its shape after deformation, a plastic material which may be impact polystyrene. In this second embodiment, one of the end partitions (the partition 4 for example) is hollow and open at least laterally (that is to say Idu side of the frames 2 and 3) and below to be nestable on the 'other end partition (5 therefore) of a second cradle placed at the end of the first.
In this way, the end partition 5 must have a thickness slightly less than or at the most equal to that of the intermediate partitions 6.
In the embodiment shown by way of example in Figures 1 to 5, the end partition 5 has a profile identical to the intermediate partitions 6 and to the frames 2, 3. It has two sides 10 and 11 slightly inclined relative to the vertical and connected by an upper band 12. On the other hand, the other end partition 4 is limited to an inner side 13 and an upper band 14, the side 13 being arranged symmetrically to the side 10. The upper band 14 of the partition 4 is intended to cover that 12 of the partition 5 with another cradle placed at the end.
In addition, so that the end wall 4 is free on the sides and that nothing then opposes its fitting on the end wall 5 of another support cradle, it can be seen in particular in FIG. 2 that the outer flank 11 of the Chords 2 and 3 is interrupted at an angle in the vicinity of said end partition 4, the inner side 10 of said chords being of course limited to the housings 7. Furthermore, this slanted end of the outer side of the chords is integral with a flange 15 extending a lower edge 16 of the frame 1. This rim 15 makes it possible to stiffen the upper band 14 of the partition 4 which, being projecting and cantilevered, would in the absence of said rim, be relatively fragile.
FIGS. 4 and 5 perfectly illustrate the overlap or interlocking implemented according to the invention so that the distance d is equal to the pitch p (FIG. 3). These figures also show other characteristics. With regard to FIG. 5, it can be seen that the upper bands 12 and 14 of the ribs 4 and 5 of the support cradle can be straight.
On the other hand, FIG. 4 shows that recesses 17 and 18 of complementary shapes can be provided in the upper bands 14 and 12 of the end partitions 4 and 5 respectively, these recesses allowing in particular a lateral retention of two support cradles placed end to end. end. Thus, on the automatic machine, it is no longer necessary to provide guide elements for the support cradles constituting a row.
The support cradle illustrated by Figures 6 to 9 is shaped in the manner shown, in particular because it consists of a plastic plate capable of resuming its shape after deformation, a plastic material which may be impact polystyrene. This support cradle comprises two hollow trestles 19 and 20 connected by a corrugated bottom 21.
These trestles 19 and 20 have opposite, on the one hand, elements of intermediate partitions 22 and 23, on the other hand, elements of end walls 24 and 25, 26 and 27. The elements of partitions 22, 24 and 26 delimit between them regularly spaced housing 28. Likewise, the partition elements 23, 25 and 27 delimit the housings 29 arranged strictly opposite the previous ones. The housings 28 and 29 are intended to receive the ends of pharmaceutical ampoules and, for this purpose, are shaped in correspondence with said ends. In the example shown, the pharmaceutical ampoules to be packaged have a flattened cylindrical end and a narrowed and tapered end. The housings 29 are therefore partially cylindrical and narrowed to receive and hold the corresponding end of said bulbs.
It would be the same for the housings 28, if the latter had two cylindrical and flattened ends. But in the present case where one of the ends of the bulbs is tapered, these housings 28 have a substantially conical shape limited, as is particularly visible in Figures 6 and 9, on the sides, by the wall elements 22, 24 and 26, at the lower part, by an extension of the bottom 21 having a conical surface 30. I1 is quite obvious that in the case of bulbs having two tapered ends, the cradle would have housings 28 bilaterally.
Whatever the conformation of the support cradle in FIGS. 6 to 9, it can be seen that the means implemented according to the invention so that the distance d separating the contiguous end housings 28 and 29 of two support cradles placed end to end is equal to the no spacing p of the housings 28 and 29, are applied in this case. Indeed, the intermediate partition elements 22 are all identical to each other, while the end partition elements 24 and 26 are shaped to complement one another. Likewise, the intermediate partition elements 23 are identical, while the end partition elements 25 and 27 are complementarily shaped.
In this embodiment, the end wall elements 26 and 27 located opposite are hollow and open at least below to be nestable on the other end wall elements 24 and 25 also located opposite. It is then observed that the conformation of the partition elements obtained by interlocking the partition elements 26 and 27 of a support cradle on the adjoining partition elements 24 and 25 of another support cradle placed at the end of the first is substantially the same as that of the intermediate partition elements 22 and 23.
More particularly, Figures 6 and 7 show that the end wall elements 24 and 25 have outer sides 31 and 32 ending on a flange 33 extending from the edges 34 and 35 of the trestles 19 and 20. Thus, these end wall elements 24 and 25 are at least as rigid as the elements of intermediate partitions 22 and 23. If we now consider Figures 6 and 8, we see on the other hand that the elements of end walls 26 and 27 are open in a plane perpendicular to the direction easels 19 and 20, for the sole purpose that the interlocking of the invention can be achieved by translation, in the same way as for the embodiment of the support cradle illustrated in Figures 1 to 3.
Under these conditions, it is necessary for the end wall elements 26 and 27 to be connected by a vertical flange 36 extending between the trestles 19 and 20 from the bottom 21 to the upper level thereof. This flange 36 thus makes it possible to stiffen the support cradle in order to compensate for the weakness created by the transverse opening of said end partition elements 26 and 27.
