Device for running in valves, in particular the valves of an internal combustion engine The object of the invention is a device for running in valves, in particular the valves of internal combustion engines.
Usually, engine valve break-in is carried out manually in the workshop, in often improper hygienic or psychological conditions.
Indeed, because of the lack of appropriate tools, a worker manually subjects a valve to a circular movement around its seat, using a rod which he fixes on this valve, the valve having been previously covered with 'a layer of emery. The circular movement imparted by the worker is produced by the friction of the rod between his hands.
This operation is expensive and only exceptionally gives good results. It suffices for the running-in operation to lack precision for the smallest imperfection to be the cause of imperfect operation of the valve which, as we know, has an impact on the operation of the engine.
The device for lapping the valves, in particular the valves of engines according to the invention effectively solves the problems posed in a simple and economical manner.
This device is characterized by the fact that it comprises a motor shaft and a driven shaft each having an eccentric end part, this eccentricity being different for the end parts of each of these axes, at least one of the parts. eccentric end bearing a transmission member consisting of a bearing in contact around its periphery with a transmission member integral with the eccentric end portion of the other axis, the driven axis comprising, at its free end, a device for fixing a valve.
An embodiment of the object of the invention and a variant will be described by way of example with reference to the appended schematic drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section of the device for lapping engine valves. This device is constituted by a motor axis element -1- and a driven axis element -2-, each of which has an end -3- eccentric with respect to the axes -1- and -2- corresponding to them. themselves. This eccentricity is different for each end -3- of the axes -1- and -2-; in fact the distances separating the geometric axes -5- from the ends -3- of each of the axes -1- and -2- are different, preferably of the order of half a millimeter.
Each eccentric end -3- carries a transmission organ formed by a bearing -ti- which is fixed therein. In addition, the driven shaft -2- is provided with a fixing device consisting of a suction cup -7- intended to allow the fixing of the driven shaft -2- on the valve to be lapped. This suction cup is located on the side opposite the bearing -6- which is placed on the driven shaft -2-.
The bearings -6- mounted on the ex-centric ends -3- of each axis -1- and -2- are arranged so that their external parts are tangent. The axes -1- and -2- each have, in addition to the bearings -6-, a counterweight -8- which facilitates the relative movements between these axes.
The driven axis -2- is driven in a circular reciprocating movement produced precisely because of the difference in eccentricity that its eccentric end -3- presents with respect to the ex-centric end -3 = of motor axis -1-. As a consequence of this difference in eccentricity, a friction jump occurs between the bearings -6- (separation of the bearings 6), at this moment the driven axis -2- returns to its initial position, under the action of 'a bou din -9- spring which surrounds this axis. This spring -9- is fixed on the one hand to a screw -10- of the housing -11- in which the two axes are housed and pivoted using bearings -12-, and on the other hand to a pin -13- solid of the axis -2- itself.
Fig. 2 shows a schematic cross section of the valve lapping device illustrated in FIG. 1. We can clearly see the difference in eccentricity which exists between the geometric axis -4- of the motor axis -1- and the geometric axis -5- of the eccentric end -3- of the axis. motor -1- and the eccentricity that these same axes -4- and -5- have on the driven axis -2-.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of a variant of the device for lapping engine valves. This device consists of a motor axis element -1- and a driven axis element -2-, the motor axis having an end -3- eccentric with respect to that of the axis -1-, L The driven axis is provided at one of its ends with a transmission member formed by an elbow extension -4- eccentric with respect to this axis. Furthermore, the degree of eccentricity exhibited by the ends between them, of the axis -3- and of the elbow -4-, with respect to the elements of axes -1- and -2- respectively, is different.
This difference in eccentricity can be observed by comparing the distance separating the geometric axes -5- from the axes -l and -2-, and the geometric axes -6- from the end -3- of the axis -1- and elbow -4- of axis -2-.
This distance will preferably be half a millimeter. The eccentric end -3- of the axis -1- carries a transmission member consisting of a bearing -7- which is introduced into the eccentric bent part -4- of the end of the driven axis -2-, and arranged so that its periphery comes into contact with the internal wall of said elbow -4-. The driven axis -t is provided with a suction cup -8-.
The driven axis -2- is driven in a reciprocating movement resulting from the eccentricity difference which exists between its eccentric bend -4- and the eccentric end -3- of the motor axis - 1-.
Indeed a friction jump occurs between the two insane, that is to say, bearing -7- and elbow -4- (separation of the outer surface of the bearing 7 and said elbow 4) and at this time the driven shaft returns to its initial position under the action of a coil spring -9- which surrounds it and which is fixed to the screw -10- of the casing -11- in which the two axes are housed.
Finally, fig. 4 shows a cross sectional diagram of the device for honing engine valves illustrated in FIG. 3. We can clearly see the difference in eccentricity which exists between the geometric axes -5- and -6- of the elements of axes -1- and -2- with respect to the geometric axes of the eccentric end -3- of the axis and the bend -4- in which the bearing -7- is introduced.
The free end of the motor axis -1- is intended to be coupled to an electric motor for example (not shown), and the rotation of this motor axis -l is transmitted to the driven axis -2- until moment when, due to the difference in eccentricity between the bearing -7- and the elbow -4-, this elbow -4- and this bearing -7- are no longer in contact.
The separation between the bearings -6- or the bearing -6- and the elbow -4-, allows the driven axle -2- to return to its initial position under the action of the tension spring -9- that this axle door around him. The driven axis being fixed by means of a ven touse -7- to the valve to be lapped, it gives the latter a back and forth movement on its seat.
The device described for lapping valves offers a decisive series of advantages. Indeed, it is simple and allows easy break-in of a valve under much better conditions than during manual break-in. The design of the device gives it great robustness, reduces the possibilities of damage and ensures the performance of mechanical lapping work, these qualities give the device described a certain practical utility.
