Liquid cleaning agent The present invention relates to a liquid, homogeneous, pourable cleaning agent that is clear at room temperature.
The cleaning agents according to the invention can be used as high-performance cleaning agents. The cleaning agent according to the invention is characterized in that it contains 10 to 18 parts by weight of a mixture of an alkali salt of a mononuclear alkylarylsulfonic acid with 8 to 15 carbon atoms in the alkyl group and an alkali salt of an alkyl or
mononuclear alkylarylpolyäthylenoxydsulfate tes with 8 to 1 & carbon atoms in the alkyl group, in a weight ratio of alkylaryl sulfonate to polyethylene oxide sulfate of 6.5: 1 to 1: 4 and 10 to 20 wt. % of a water-soluble, inorganic potassium polyphosphate-containing washing aid and 6 to 12 wtA of a water-soluble hydrotropic sulfonate or
Contains sulfates in an aqueous dissolving medium.
The polyethylene oxide sulfates contained in the detergent according to the invention can also be referred to as polyethylene oxide sulfates and are described in Surface Active Agents and Detergents, Volume II by Schwartz, Perry and Berch on pages 125 to 134.
The liquid containing the above constituents exhibits numerous desirable properties both in terms of its physical behavior and in terms of its possible applications. The liquid cleaning agent according to the invention is after production and aging at room temperature a homogeneous, pourable clear liquid, which is extremely stable after several months of storage at room temperature of about 21 C and shows no significant precipitation or formation of immiscible layers. The liquid can also be exposed to higher temperatures of around 50 C or cooled down to 4 C and - brought back to room temperature - remains a clear, homogeneous liquid.
As a result, this cleaning agent can be convenient and in small amounts, for example in a sink or in a wash bath who the. Cleaning agents and detergents retain their constant composition in every portion and at all times. When washing dishes, laundry or other cleaning processes, the cleaning agent exhibits excellent foaming power and excellent washing power.
When cleaning heavily soiled, greasy or greasy surfaces including soiled metal surfaces made of aluminum or other metals as well as ceramic objects and clothing, it shows excellent cleaning power and good emulsifying properties. The foam volume is excellent both at the start and during the cleaning process.
According to the invention, the alkylarylsulfonates used are those with 8-15 carbon atoms in the alkyl group. Alkylbenzenesulfonates are preferred, although other similar detergent substances with a mononuclear, e.g. B. from toluene or xylene derived aryl radical can be used.
The aryl nucleus is substituted with at least one alkyl radical having an average of 8 to 15 and preferably 12 to 15 carbon atoms. The alkyl radical can be branched and, for example, consist of nonyl, dodecyl and pentadecyl radicals and also of mixtures thereof which are derived from polymers or monoolefins, for example from polypropylene.
The alkyl radical can also be straight-chain, for example a decyl and dodecyl radical. According to the invention, the polyethylene oxide sulfates, also known as polyethoxamer sulfates, have an alkyl group with 8 to 18 carbon atoms. They preferably contain an average of 2 to 15 moles of ethylene oxide. Suitable sulfated alkylaryl polyethylene oxide sulfates have <RTI
ID = "0002.0011"> preferably at least one straight-chain or branched alkyl radical with an average of 8 to 13 carbon atoms, such as octyl, nonyl and dodecyl radicals. The aryl radical can contain further substituents, for example alkyl radicals, provided that these do not adversely affect the desired properties.
In general, this material has an average of 4-10 and preferably 4-6 moles of ethylene oxide per alkylaryl radical.
Suitable sulfated alkyl polyethylene oxide sulfates preferably have an alkyl radical with 10 to 18 and in particular 12 to 14 carbon atoms, which can also be straight-chain or branched, such as n-decyl, normal and branched dodecyl and tetradecyl radicals as well as branched tridicyl radicals and similar radicals,
which are derived from the olefins and obtained by the oxo process, as well as mixed alkyl radicals of fatty alcohols obtained by reducing fatty acids of coconut oil, tallow oil and hydrogenated coconut oil. This material has generally about 2 to 15 and preferably 3-8 moles of ethylene oxide.
The polyethylene oxide sulfates are generally produced by reacting the corresponding fatty alcohol or the corresponding alkylphenol with sufficient ethylene oxide and subsequent sulfation. The sulfation of the reaction product can be carried out in a manner known per se, for example with concentrated sulfuric acid or chlorosulfonic acid.
If desired, the polyethylene oxides (polyethoxamers) can be sulfated with the same sulfonating agent during or after the sulfonation of the alkylaryl hydrocarbon, so that mixed detergent substances can be obtained. In the case of alkylaryl polyethylene oxide sulfate, the purity of the reaction product influences the optimal properties of the end product.
In general, depending on the manufacturing process, varying amounts of organic contaminants are present in a mixture with the sulfated polyethylene oxide.
The organic impurities consist of unreacted, non-ionic (non-sulphated) higher alkylaryl-ethylene oxides, substances sulphonated on the ring and alkylaryl-ethylene oxide sulphates, in which the phenyl ring is sulphonated, and possibly very small amounts of decomposition products such as higher alkylphenols and partially de-ethoxylated products.
These organic contaminants should be kept to a minimum as far as possible, since an excess has an adverse effect on the physical properties and the effect of the cleaning agent. In particular, an excess, specifically of unreacted and non-ionic polyethylene oxides, tends to increase the cloud point, prevent foam formation and reduce the effectiveness of the product as an emulsifier for grease soiling during washing.
The product may contain a small proportion of such organic, unreacted substances or by-products, provided that this proportion is not sufficient to significantly impair the properties of the cleaning agent. In general, the alkylaryl polyethylene oxide sulfate should be so pure that it contains at least 75% by weight of the total organic solids and up to about 25% of the other organic solids mentioned.
To achieve an optimal effect, the organic solid components of the commercial polyethylene oxide sulfate should preferably not contain significantly more than 10% unsulfated organic polyethylene oxide and not more than 15% by weight of material sulfonated on the ring. A typical product can contain about 10 of these substances in relation to the organic solids content. The impurities can be kept in such a low range in any convenient way.
Careful monitoring of the working conditions during sulphation, including the reaction time and the selection of the sulphonating agent, results in raw materials of the desired purity. The reaction product can also be cleaned with ion exchangers, for example, to remove the organic impurities.
The Alkylarylsulfonate and the sulfated Poly- äthylenoxydsulfate are in the form of their alkali salts, z. B. as the potassium or sodium salt used. The sulfonated and sulfated detergents may contain small amounts of inorganic salts such as sodium or potassium sulfate, which result from the manufacturing process. In general, these inorganic sulfates should be present in the lowest possible concentration, as far as this is practicable.
The inorganic auxiliary washing agent (the builder) of the cleaning agent according to the invention contains potassium polyphosphate salts which prevent the precipitation of calcium and magnesium substances in aqueous solutions and which contribute to the high-performance performance of the liquid cleaning agent during washing.
Completely neutralized salts are generally used as polyphosphates, such as tetrapotassium pyrophosphate and pentapotassium tripolyphosphate, for example. If desired, the phosphates can be partially neutralized salts, such as, for example, acid potassium tripolyphosphate. Any suitable mixture of polyphosphates can also be used. At least some of the tetrapotassium pyrophosphate is preferably used.
The organic detergent substances and the polyphosphate form the main part of the finished cleaning agent, so that extremely effective cleaning and washing power is obtained by adding only small amounts of the liquid product to a washing bath.
The quantities are set so that the washing-active substances and the poly phosphate are dissolved in an aqueous medium, which according to the invention is 10 to 18 and preferably 14 to 16% by weight of detergent mixture and 10 to 20% by weight of water-soluble, inorganic potassium phosphate containing WaschhälfsmitItel is achieved.
The ratio of alkyl aryl sulfonate to the polyethylene oxide sulfate in question is in the detergent according to the invention in the range from 6.5: 1 to 1: 4. The ratio of alkyl aryl sulfonate to the polyethylene oxide sulfates should preferably be greater than 1: 1 and, in particular to achieve the best properties, such as foam power, be 1.5: 1 to 3: 1.
In addition to better detergency, the polyphosphate also influences the physical properties of the system when it is used in amounts of 10 to 20 and preferably 15 wtA. In the presence of at least 10% poly phosphate, you can also get a lower cloud point and clarity point in comparison with similar compositions, which contain either no or little phosphate.
According to a general principle, it is advisable to change the content of detergent substance and poly phosphate in inverse proportion, i. H. relatively small amounts of one substance are used if relatively high proportions of the other component are desired in the end product.
Instead of potassium polyphosphate, other water-soluble ones can also be used

The water-soluble hydrotropic sulfonate contained according to the invention promotes the compatibility of the individual components, so that a homogeneous liquid product is formed. As hydrotropic sulfonates, sulfonated (including sulfated) organic alkali salts with a lower alkyl-inorganic washing alkalis in small amounts of a few percent, e.g.
B. up to 5% sodium polyphosphate or sodium or potassium silicate can be used in exchange, provided that the detergents consist primarily of at least 10% potassium polyphosphate, for example, and that the total amount in the liquid is compatible.
The properties of the liquid end product can be modified by selecting certain polyethylene oxide sulphates. The selected material should result in a clear solution when mixed with the other main components.
The average number of ethylene oxide residues and the character of the alkyl residues in these products influence the physical properties of the liquid and the amount of inorganic salt, in particular potassium polyphosphate, which can be dissolved in the liquid.
For example, several liquid cleaning agents were produced which contained about 7% by weight sodium tridecylbenzenesulfonate, 7% by weight sodium polyethoxylate sulfate, 8% commercially available sodium xylene sulfonate, 3% coconut isopropanolamide and a certain amount of potassium pyrophosphate in water.
Each composition contained a different Polyäthoxylatsulfat, the alkyl radical and average ethylene oxide content in the following table is given. The products contained 20% potassium pyrophosphate, unless lower amounts are indicated in the table. These amounts roughly correspond to the estimated maximum amounts that will dissolve in the product. The cloud point and the clear point for each composition are also given in the table below. group of up to 6 carbon atoms are used.
An alkylarylsulfonate with up to 3 carbon atoms in a lower alkyl group, such as sodium and potassium sulfonates of xylene, toluene, ethylbenzene and isopropylbenzene, is preferably used. The xylene sulfonates include ortho-xylene sulfonate, meta-xylene sulfonate,
para-xylene sulfonate and ethylbenzenesulfonate. The commercial xylene sulfonates generally contain meta-xylene sulfonate as the main component. An analysis of a typical commercial product showed about 40 to 50% meta-xylene sulfonate,
10 to 35% ortho-xylene sulfonate and 15 to 30% para-xylene sulfonate together with 0 to 20% ethylbenzenesulfonate. However, any suitable isomeric mixture can be used. It is also possible to use suitable lower alkyl sulphate salts having 5 to 6 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, such as, for example, alkali n-amyl and n-hexyl sulphates.
These hydrotropes are used according to the invention in amounts of 6 to 12 wtA of the composition. An excess over the amount necessary to achieve a single liquid phase does not help, since this only adds additional salts to an already concentrated system.
The liquid should preferably contain a sufficient amount of an alkylolamide of a higher fatty acid which acts as a soap suds former. As a result, the product obtained shows improved foaming power and, in particular, better foam stability during dish washing or washing. In certain cleaning agents, the alkylolamide can also have a dissolving effect.
So much alkylolamide should not be used that the desired physical properties are destroyed, especially since it is considered part of the total solids content. The fatty acyl radical of the alkylolamide generally has 8 to 18 carbon atoms, and each alkylol group generally has up to 3 carbon atoms.
The diethanolamides, isopropanolamides and monoethanolamides of fatty acids with 10 to 14 carbon atoms in the acyl radical are preferably used. Examples are the diethanolamides, monoethanolamides and isopropanolamides of lauric acid, caproic acid, myristic acid and coconut oil acids and mixtures thereof.
You can also use alkylolamides which are substituted by other alkyl radicals, such as. B. the above he mentioned monoethanolamides, diethanolamides and isopropanolamides, which are condensed with 1 or 2 moles of ethylene oxide. In general, the alkylolamides are used in amounts of 2 to 10 and preferably 4 to 8 wtA in the product.
The solids content of the concentrated liquid product varies and is usually between 26 to 50 wtA of the concentrated liquid, with the remainder being primarily water. The individual components are contained in the aqueous solvent medium in such a way that a homogeneous product with the desired physical properties is obtained.
Small amounts of water-soluble, saturated, aliphatic, monohydric alcohols with 2 to 3 carbon atoms such as ethanol, propanol and isopropanol can be used as part of the aqueous, lö send medium. The alcohol can contribute to improving the physical properties, lower the cloud point, improve the shelf life at low temperatures or change the viscosity. In certain cases a small amount of alcohol combined with the hydrotropic salt results in a clear liquid which would otherwise be cloudy or cloudy at room temperature.
The suitable amount of alcohol varies depending on the composition, since an excess can lead to the product separating into two or more phases. In general, up to 3 and preferably 0.1 to 2 GewA are used.
The cleaning agent can also contain a suitable soil suspension agent, which usually leads to a translucent or opaque end product, although the washing-active substances and the washing alkalis are in solution as desired. For example, alkali salts of carboxyalkyl cellulose with a lower alkyl group, namely up to 3 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, such as sodium and potassium carboxymethyl cellulose, can be used for this purpose.
Other known water-soluble substances with dirt-carrying capacity are the lower alkyl and hydroxyalkyl ethers, such as methyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose and oxyethyl cellulose, cellulose sulfate and vinyl polymers such as water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol and polyvinyl pyrrolidone. The amount of soil suspending agent, including mixtures of the same,
is generally between 0.1 and 2% by weight for the liquid product. A wide variety of substances or mixtures can be used which keep the agents for improving the dirt-carrying capacity suspended or dispersed in the liquid. For example, suitable mixtures of cellulose compounds or a mixture of a cellulose compound with vinyl polymers or a mixture of a cellulose compound with castor wax or any combination of these substances can be used.
The liquid detergent can be prepared in any suitable manner. The hydrotropic salts, polyphosphate and the organic detergent substances are added one after the other as a powder, aqueous solution or slurry to the aqueous medium. The alkylolamides and all waxy substances are preferably melted or added in liquid form with stirring to form a homogeneous mass. The alcohol can be added at any time or together with a detergent substance.
The soil suspending agent can be added in any aqueous solution and at any time during mixing. The temperature during mixing should be sufficient to dissolve or melt the ingredients and moderately elevated temperatures of up to 951 C can be used.
If desired, numerous other additives can be added, such as perfumes, dyes, protective substances against corrosion or tarnishing, germicides, bleaching agents, optical brighteners or fluorescent colors, substances that regulate viscosity or additional solvents and the like.

<tb> water <SEP> remainder The higher alkylbenzenesulphonate was a commercially available mixture of tetrameric propylenebenzenesulphonate and the pentameric propylenebenzenesulphonate, which on average corresponds to a tridecylbenzenesulphonate.
It was calculated based on its active content: but it also contained about 1.6 parts of sodium sulfate. The polyethoxylate sulfate had an average of 5 moles of ethylene oxide and had the desired purity; it contained less than about 10% nonionic unsulphated material and less than about 15% ring sulphonated material, based on the solids content of the organic matter.
The sodium xylene sulfonate was calculated according to the active substance and was a commercially available material with a purity of 90%. It consists of a mixture of the meta-, para- and ortho-xylene sulfonates with a little toluenesulfonate. The above cleaning agent is a clear solution with a cloud point of 11.7 C and a clear point of 13.3 C and is suitable for cleaning.
When using sodium lauryl polyethoxylate sulfate (5 moles of ethylene oxide) as the polyethoxylate, a clear product is also obtained. Example 2 Another liquid cleaning agent was prepared from the following components:
EMI0005.0031
The same starting materials as in Example 1 were used. In the case of the added alkylolamide, the ratio of the laurine residue to the myristine residue was about 70:30.
The end product is a clear solution at room temperature with a niedri conditions cloud point and clear point; it has good cleaning properties and good aging properties.
Example 3 The composition according to Example 2 was repeated, the lower alkyl aryl sulfonates used as hydrotropes being omitted and replaced by 8.5% sodium hexyl sulfate or 8.5% sodium n-amyl sulfate. Both products were clear liquids with the desired physical properties and good cleaning power.
Example 4 The same composition was selected as in Example 2, but now 9% potassium tridecylbenzenesulfonate (instead of sodium sulfonate) and 1.5% sodium toluene sulfonate and 6.5% sodium toluene sulfonate as hydrotropic salts % Sodium xylene sulfonate and 0.6 ethanol were added. The product is a pure liquid that is clear at room temperature and has very good aging and cleaning properties.
The addition of ethanol gives an improved physical property.
Example 5 Further liquid cleaning agents were prepared according to Example 2, with 9% potassium tridecylbenzenesulfonate and 8.5% commercial sodium xylene sulfonate as the entire hydrotropic salt and a potassium pyrophosphate content of 10 and 15% has been.
The product with 10% pyrophosphate was a clear liquid with a cloud point of 5.5 ° C. and a clear point of 7.2 ° C., while the product with 15% pyrophosphate had a cloud point of 8.9 ° C. and a clear point of 12.2 ° C. . Similar liquid compositions with 0 and 5% pyrophosphate are not clear at room temperature.
When 5% sodium silicate with a sodium oxide / silicon dioxide ratio of 1: 2.5 was added to the above cleaning agent with a content of 10% phosphate, a clear liquid with good cleaning properties was also obtained. Example 6 A cleaning agent was produced according to Example 2, 15.4% sodium tridecylbenzenesulfonate, which was free from inorganic salts, and 2.6% of the aforementioned polyethoxylate sulfate being used.
The liquid product is cloudy at room temperature and becomes a clear liquid when about 3% ethanol is added.
Example 7 Various compositions were made which contain 9% potassium tridecylbenzenesulfonate, sodium lauryl myristyl polyethoxylate sulfate (5 mol of ethylene oxide), 3% each of lauric myristine isopropanolamide and diethanolamide, 15% potassium pyrophosphate and 8% contained hydrotropic salts in water.
8% sodium xylene sulfonate or a mixture of 4.8% of xylene sulfonate with 3.2% sodium n-hexyl sulfate or 8% hexyl sulfate were used as the hydro- tropic salts in the various compositions. In all cases, the liquid cleaning agents had cloud points of 3.9 to 4.4 ° C. and had good cleaning properties.
Example 8 A cleaning agent of a similar composition was produced which contains 10% sodium tridecylbenzenesulfonate, 3% sodium lauryl polyethoxylate sulfate (5 mol ethylene oxide), 2.5% each of the same isopropanolamide and diethanolamide, and 15% Potassium pyrophosphate and 8.6% sodium xylene sulfonate (commercial product) in water.
The end product is a clear solution at room temperature and has a cloud point below 3.3 C and shows excellent cleaning properties.
