Beispiele für geeignete Grund'ierungsmateria'lien gemäss vorstehenden Gruppen sind: Gruppe a: Lösungen von Nitrocallulose; Lösun gen von Polyvinylchlorid-Mischpolymerisaten (z. B. PVC-Polyvinylacetat); Gruppe b: Lösungen von Alkydharzen mit oxy- dativ trocknenden Fettsäureanteilen; Lösungen von Epoxyharzen in Mischung mit Lösungen reaktiver Polyamide;

Process for the production of articles coated with polytetrafluoroethylene, coatings made of polytetrafluoroethylene are gaining rapidly growing interest in numerous branches of industry because of their excellent separating effect. A disadvantage of polytetrafluoroethylene coatings, however, is that they exert poor adhesion not only to the material with which they come into contact, but also to the surface on which they are applied.
In order to achieve a satisfactory adhesive strength, attempts have therefore already been made to produce coatings of polytetrafluoroethylene and thermosetting phenolic resin binder by applying polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion and phenolic resin dispersion as a mixture and baking them in under the conditions required by the phenolic resin.
With coatings made in this way, however, the advantageous properties of polytetrafluoroethylene no longer come into their own, but are weakened by the added binder.
The present invention now provides a new process which allows the production of coatings which do not have the deficiencies mentioned from a conventional lacquer binder and polytetrafluoroethylene. According to the process according to the invention, the polytetrafluoroethylene can namely be glazed in practically blended form on the upper surface of the coating, that is to say exactly where it is desirable and necessary.
The process according to the invention, which is used to produce objects made of metal, glass, synthetic resin, wood or ceramic and coated with polytetrafluoroethylene, is characterized in that the surface to be coated is provided with a primer layer, a solution or dispersion of a film-forming organic substance that is hardenable or non-hardenable is applied to the surface,
a mixture of aqueous polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion and water-miscible organic solvent is applied to the primer layer thus obtained, whereupon it is dried and, if the film-forming substance is curable, hardened, the film-forming organic substance being one
de until the polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion has been applied in which the organic solvent added to the polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion remains soluble.
Curable film-forming organic substances must remain reversibly soluble in the organic solvent added to the polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion until the polytetrafluoroethylene has been applied. If necessary, the primer obtained from it can be dried before the polytetrafluoroethylene application.
The water-miscible organic solvent should have a lower evaporation rate and a higher boiling point than water. It must have real dissolving power for the film-forming organic substance in the state in which it was coated.
The proportions between water and organic solvent in the mixture resulting from the polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion and the solvent mentioned can vary within limits. The solvent used in this way causes the resin layer to dissolve on the surface and enables the resin to mix at the interface
Polytetrafluoroethylene in such a way that the overall layer has a polytetrafluoroethylene content that increases from the bottom to the top.
The drying or drying and curing is carried out after the polytetrafluoroethylene apphkation under the conditions required for the film-forming substance used in the primer. It can take place a) in a purely physical way, that is to say exclusively through evaporation of solvents and diluents b) in a physico-chemical way.
Examples of suitable primer materials according to the above groups are: Group a: solutions of nitrocallulose; Solutions of polyvinyl chloride copolymers (e.g. PVC-polyvinyl acetate); Group b: solutions of alkyd resins with oxidatively drying fatty acid components; Solutions of epoxy resins mixed with solutions of reactive polyamides;
Solutions of epoxy resins mixed with melamine-formaldehyde or phenol-formaldehyde resins; Solutions of epoxy resins with reactive polyamides.
The coatings obtainable according to the invention are distinguished by their separating action, hydrophobicity and excellent sliding properties. They are therefore particularly suitable for mixing vessels, e.g. B. in the pasta industry, chocolate and confectionery industry, for molds for plastic production and for other devices and devices in which a slightly sticky product is to be processed, transported or stored.
A preferred field of application of the method according to the invention is the manufacture of self-lubricating projectile cases. As is known, special requirements are placed on such sleeves primarily with regard to their sliding properties, but also with regard to mechanical and thermal stress, which the metal body itself,
but also affect the coating layer used to prevent corrosion and reduce friction. Bullet casings which are coated with polytetrafluoroethylene on the outside Lich by the process according to the invention meet the ge requirements in an excellent manner.
In the production of bullet cases according to the invention, the raw cases are first coated as a whole with a thermally stable, uncured film-forming substance, then externally coated with polytetrafluoroethylene and cured. Epoxy resins are preferably used as thermally stable film formers. But you can also use phenolic, melamine, urea or isocyanate resins or
Use combinations of the resins mentioned. By using the resins mentioned in combination with a top layer made of polytetrafluoroethylene, a self-lubricating coating with temperature-resistant, reliable sliding properties in the range of about -50 to +300 C. is obtained on the shell cases.
Example 1 Plates made of steel or light metal are provided, according to the invention, with an adhesive polytetrafluoroethylene coating as follows:
After thorough cleaning by spraying or dipping with Scadoform L 17 (precondensate from Epikote 1007 [condensation product from epichlorohydrin and diphenylolpropane; Manuf .: Shell] and Scadoform L 9 [butanol-etherified phenolic resin ;
Manuf .: Scado N.V., Zwolle, Holt]) coated in a thickness of 20 to 30 microns. The commercial form of the Scadoform L 17 (Manuf .: Scado N.V.). contains 50% solids and 50 (1 of a mixture of ethylene glycol and toluene in a ratio of 1: 1). A material suitable for processing was obtained by adding methyl isobutyl ketone to this commercial form.
After the solvents have evaporated, which is the case at room temperature after about 3 hours, a 60% aqueous polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion, to which ethylene glycol has been added as a water-miscible organic solvent, is sprayed on in the desired thickness. The coating is then first dried for 1 hour at room temperature; it is then baked in a circulating air drying cabinet at 200.degree.
Example 2 Leaf springs sandblasted on all sides are coated by spraying, dipping or rolling with a combination of zinc dust and polystyrene LG (manufacturer BASF) in a weight ratio of 80: 20 to 97: 3, with Polystyrene is previously dissolved in hydrocarbons such as solvent naphtha and the zinc dust is finely ground in the binder obtained in this way.
Immediately after the application of the zinc dust base layer or after drying this layer for a few hours at room temperature, a 60% aqueous polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion, to which ethylene glycol has been added as a water-miscible organic solvent, is sprayed on in the desired thickness. After drying for 2 hours at room temperature, the leaf springs can be fitted.
Example 3 Leaf springs sandblasted on all sides are coated with a combination of lead powder in Desmophen 1200 (manufacturer Bayer Leverkusen) in a ratio of 80: 20 to 97: 3, with Desmodur L (Bayer Leverkusen) in the ratio for hardening the Desmophens 1: 1, based on the content of Desmophene 1200, and also butyl acetate and xylene in a ratio of 8: 2 for dilution to the processing consistency.
The application is carried out in a dry finish of 50 to 100 microns. After an evaporation time of less than 1.0 minutes, an aqueous 6'0% polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion is sprayed, which is a water-miscible,
organic solvent ethylene glycol was added and which was pigmented with molybdenum disulphide as an additional lubricant.
Example 4 Leaf springs sandblasted on all sides are coated with a combination of zinc dust in Araldit 820 A (manufacturer Ciba, Basel), Araldit 820 B in a ratio of 2: 1, based on Araldit 820 A, for hardening , is admitted. At the same time, it is diluted with xylene butanal in a ratio of 8: 2.
It is applied in a dry film thickness of 50 to 100 microns. After an evaporation time of more than 15 minutes, but less than 2 hours, an aqueous 60 ige polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion is sprayed ge, to which ethylene glycol was added as a water-miscible, organic solvent and which was pigmented with graphite as an additional lubricant.
