Process for vulcanizing tires in a pressure curing mold and equipment for its implementation The vulcanization of tires in general, and more specifically of casings to be retreaded, is generally obtained, after preparation and installation in a curing mold. , by means of the introduction into the casing of a rubber air chamber into which the compressed air which is necessary to adhere the casing being repaired against the surfaces of the mold is then admitted. In this way, the heat treated casing is perfectly retreaded.
The use of the air chamber placed in the annular seat of the casing has, however, various disadvantages such as, to name but a few, rapid wear of the rubber inner tube which, subjected to high temperature, must be replaced frequently, which affects the cost of retreading and damage to the casing during retreading when the inner tube is used beyond allowable limits.
In addition, modern retreading machines, which are highly efficient, still contribute to making the use of the pressurized inner tube problematic, so that the need for a new working system has been repeatedly desired in the retreading industry.
The object of the method in accordance with the present invention is therefore to make the retreading of an envelope simpler and faster while eliminating all the aforementioned drawbacks. It is characterized by the closing of the internal circumferential zone of the envelope delimited by its heels by means of an annular element made in one or more pieces, said determining element in the envelope and with the envelope itself a chamber airtight internal pressurized by introducing compressed air by means of a valve tube fixed so as to pass through the aforementioned annular element, the compressed air admitted directly inside the envelope ensuring perfect adhesion of the latter against the walls of the mold.
Several devices suitable for carrying out the aforementioned method are shown schematically and by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which FIGS. 1 and 2 show in cross section an annular element in one piece and in two pieces, respectively mounted in a casing housed in a baking mold.
Fig. 3 shows an elastic annular element which can be deformed under the action of compressed air.
Figs. 4 and 5 show an annular element with air pressure seals.
Fig. 6 shows an annular element with a double air pressure seal acting on the outside of the casing.
Fig. 7 illustrates a detail of the assembly shown in FIG. 6.
Referring to fig. 1 of the drawings, the apparatus comprises a real ring 1 having rounded front faces 2, made in one piece, preferably in raw rubber or else in an elastic and momentarily deformable material, which is crossed by a small tube with valve 3, for the passage of compressed air.
Said annular element 1 is mounted in the casing 4 to be retreaded; previously placed in a baking mold 5 of known type, as shown in FIG. 1, that is to say so that the surfaces 2 act by pressure against the internal walls 6 of the heels 7 of the envelope. When the mold is closed on the casing 4, in this way a chamber 8 is obtained, which is delimited inside said casing and the front surfaces 2 of the annular element 1, said chamber having a perfect seal.
Through valve 3, compressed air is then admitted into chamber 8, which practically assumes the function of a pressure chamber, and this without the aid of interposed means such as the known air chamber which , therefore, is no longer employed. Na turally, the width of the annular element must be slightly greater than the distance separating the heels from the casing.
In a constructive variant, the annular element can comprise (see fig. 2) a ring 9 with front guards 10 and 11 acting on the walls 6 of the heels 7, and this with obtaining the same result as that obtained with the element. described and shown in FIG. 1.
In fig. 3 is shown an annular element consisting of a spring ring 12 provided with elastic fins 13 and 14, which, by determining a constant pressure on the heels of the casing ensure the perfect sealing of the resulting chamber 8.
In fig. 4 is illustrated another constructive variant comprising a metal ring 15 traversed by the small valve tube 3 on the front surfaces of which are hollowed out two seats 16, one on each side, in which are housed two hollow annular linings 17 and 18, inflatable by means of an intake of compressed air through the corresponding ducts 19.
In fig. 5, the device consists of a hollow annular gasket 21 supported by two annular plates 22 and 23, upper and lower, which are provided with projections 24 and 25 for holding the aforementioned annular gasket in place, this gasket being able to be inflated by means of an intake of compressed air through a suitable tubing 26.
In another constructive variant shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, the device for implementing the stated retreading system, particularly suitable for large tires, consists of a ring 27 having two cords 28 in each of which is hollowed out a seat 29 for the housing of a bottom trim 36.
Each hollow annular gasket 30, which acts on the lower wall 35 of the heel of the casing, communicates with a tube 31 facing a tube 32, this tube being in communication with the tube 35 passing through the ring 27, closed on its bottom, to which is connected the small compressed air inlet valve tube 39, simultaneously in the chamber 8 of the casing 4 and in the hollow annular packings 30.
In this case also the adhesion of the tire against the walls of the mold is ensured by the air pressure exerting its action directly on the internal walls of the chamber 8 of the casing 4, the pressure tightness being obtained. thanks to the hollow annular linings 30 acting, as indicated above, on the lower walls 35 of the heel of the casing.
It follows from the foregoing that, in practice, the equipment for implementing the casing retreading system is of unlimited duration, does not require special handling, eliminates manufacturing deviations, due to the fact that leaks of air, which are gradual in action and do not give rise to a rapid and total loss of pressure, can be eliminated by the use of the usual sealing means, eliminates any possibility of rupture during the closing of the vulcanizing machine, due to the fact that said apparatus does not have any protrusions,
this equipment finally having the advantage of great importance that the same model of said equipment can be used for a wide range of envelopes whose internal heel spacing is the same.
