The object of the present invention is a vacuum-operated waste collector vehicle, such as leaves, paper, dust, sand and small stones, with vacuum action,
comprising an airtight container mounted on the chassis of the vehicle and having an outlet communicating with means for creating a vacuum within the container and a suction duct communicating at one end with the container and provided with the other end of one. nozzle
suction which can be placed at a short distance from the floor.
In such a vehicle the material over which the suction nozzle passes is sucked through the suction duct into the container. A constant flow of air is through the suction line into the container and out of the outlet as long as the vehicle is running. So far some subjects
passing into the container tended to be carried away by the outgoing air causing the container outlet to clog. An aim of the invention is to provide a collecting vehicle <RTI
ID = "0001.0069"> in which the materials supplied to the container remain in the latter and do not accumulate on leaving the container.
The vehicle according to the invention is characterized in that the inner surface of the upper part of the container is concave and in that at least one suction duct communicates with the,
lower part of the container in such a position relative to the outlet which communicates with the means for creating a vacuum as the air flows upward along one side of the container, around the wall upper concave,
go down on the opposite side and exit through the exit. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the vehicle forming the subject of the present invention.

A waste container 10 is pivotally mounted at 11 at its arxial end on the frame 12 of a vehicle. A tilting movement is imparted to the container by a hydraulic cylinder, the cylinder 13 of which is pivoted at 14 on a cross member.
extending between the side members 12 of the frame and the piston 15 of the cylinder is pivoted at 16 on the lower side of the container.
The rear wall 17 of the container has a discharge opening opposite which a door 19 is pivoted at 18, this door being able to be tilted up and down, by a hydraulic cylinder 20,
Means, not shown, are arranged to hermetically seal the door relative to the container.
The two actuator cylinders 13 ex 20 are connected by means of pipes not shown to a source of pressurized fluid,
these lines being controlled by valves not shown which can be operated from the driver's cabin.
A cover 21 is arranged: at the front of the container 10 on the side members 12, a centrifugal fan 22 as shown in FIG. 1, or two centrifugal fans, 23, 24 as shown in fig. 4 and 5 are mounted inside this cover.
The inlet of the fans 22 or 23 has a flange 25 which can be brought into contact or out of contact with a flange 26 surrounding an opening made in the front wall of the container 10 so that when the fan (s) are operating, the interior of the housing is subjected to vacuum.
The outlet 27: of the fan 23 is connected by a duct 28 to the inlet 29 of the fan 24, and the outlet of this fan is connected to a duct 30 leading to the atmosphere.
A power take-off (not shown) from the vehicle engine drives the input shaft 32 of an auxiliary gearbox 31 through a clutch (not shown).
An output shaft 33 extending from the gearbox drives a secondary shaft 34 through a universal joint 35 and the shaft 34 drives an axis 36 through another universal joint 37. L The axle carries a chain wheel 38 which drives another chain wheel 39 via a chain 39a.
The wheel 39 is fixed to a shaft 40 supported between bearings 41 on a fixed part of the frame. The shaft 40 carries a pulley 42 with multiple grooves surrounded by multiple drive belts 43 which pass over another pulley 44 with multiple grooves wedged on a shaft 45 which drives the other fan 24, this shaft being mounted in a bearing 46 of a fixed part 47.
Other grooves of the pulley 44 receive multiple belts 48 passing over a pulley 49 with multiple grooves fixed on a shaft 50 which drives the fan 23, this shaft being mounted in another bearing 51 carried by a fixed part 52 of the. 'apparatus.
A pulley 53 is also fixed on the shaft 36 and surrounded by a belt 54 passing over a pulley fixed to the drive shaft of a water pump 95 shown in FIG. 1.
The opening made in the front wall of the container 10 which is surrounded by the flange 26 has, associated with it,
a main or settling pipe 55 which extends rearwardly through the container and is connected to an opening made in the bottom 56 of an enlarged pipe 57 whose front end is closed by a vertical wall 58 and the rear end ends near:
the rear wall 17 of the container 10 and comprises fine filter sheets 59 and a grid 59a. As can be seen in fig. 2, the bottom wall 56 extends through the upper part of the partially cylindrical container. A section of pipe 60 extends into container 10 near a corner or each corner where front wall 104,
the bottom 61 and the side wall 62 of the container meet, this pipe section terminating in a flange 63 fixed to the outside of the container. When the housing is in a horizontal position and not tilted the flange 63 engages with a grid 64 at the upper end of a flexible duct 65, the lower end of which surrounds the upper part 66 of a nozzle. suction 67.
When the container is tilted, an iron plate can be attached to the flange 63. closing the container. The suction nozzle is mounted on a trailer 68 (fig. 3). The trailer is provided with a drawbar 69, one end of which has a hole 70 in which a horizontal and transverse pin 71 engages at the lower end of a support 72 fixed to one of the side members 12.
The other end of the drawbar 69 is attached to a crossbar 73 forming part of the trailer. Remote control means can be connected to the drawbar so that the trailer can be tilted lie high above the ground. Two arms 74 extend rearwardly from the ends of the cross member 73. A ground-engaging wheel 75 is mounted at the rear end of the arms 74 so that it has a degree of degree. of freedom.
Two laterally extending legs 76 are attached to each side of the nozzle, these legs being separated from each other in a front-to-back direction and a nut 77 is attached between them. An upwardly extending member 79 is pivoted at 78 to each of the arms 74 and passes between the two legs 76.
The upper end of each member 79 is provided with a bearing 80 through which extends a flat part of a lead screw 81, the threaded part of which engages in the nut 77, this screw being prevented from seizing. moving longitudinally in said bearing and being provided on its upper end with an operating button 82. Each member 79 can tilt arms 74 about a transverse axis and thus the nozzle can be adjusted around said axis and can also be moved in an upward and downward direction with respect to said arms.
To fix the nozzle in a desired angular position, the latter is provided with two lugs 83 between which pivot a bar 84 passing through a plain opening formed in a plate 85 extending upwards from the cross member 73, this opening com bearing another ear 86. The bar 84 has a series of holes 87 which can be brought into coincidence with a hole in the ear 86 to allow the engagement of a securing pin 88.
The front or leading wall of the nozzle. may have a valve pivoted on it which can be remotely controlled so as to vary the effective cross section of the nozzle.
The sidewalls of the nozzle may be shaped and arranged in such a way that they form a tight seal with the side edges of the valve throughout its movement. The container 10 has an auxiliary inlet opening in which a tubular shaft end 89 is rotatably mounted (see Fig. 1).
This end of the shaft has a horizontal extension 90 on the outside of the container constituting a united mem brure at one end of which is pivoted at 91 in an airtight manner a connection 92 to an auxiliary pipe 93, the end of which carries a nozzle. suction 94. The weight of the auxiliary flexible pipe 93 and of connection 92 is balanced with respect to the pivot axis 91 by a tension spring 9 connected between the arms 8 and 7 on the frame 90 and the connecting element 92.
The auxiliary flexible duct and nozzle can be used to collect waste from places that cannot be approached by the vehicle so as to bring the main nozzle. 67 in operation. When the auxiliary duct and nozzle are to be used, the lower end of the extension 60 may be covered with a plate as previously described, so that the auxiliary duct and nozzle can be used entirely.
The outlet duct 30 from the centrifugal fan (fig. 1) or from a combination of fans (fig. 3) can be directed downwards as shown in fig. 1 and can be arranged relatively close to the suction nozzle 67 so that the air circulates in a closed circuit. The outlet line 30 is preferably placed on the leading side of the suction nozzle 67.
In the event that this nozzle is arranged on one side of the vehicle, the end of the outlet pipe 30 may be disposed near the ground on the other side of the vehicle and may be directed towards the suction nozzle so that where the waste has been piled up in a swath, it can be blown to the suction nozzle for collection.
With the above arrangement, since the interior of the container 10 is evacuated, air will be drawn through line 60 around the curved side of the partially cylindrical container in a helical fashion as indicated by the arrows on the sides. fig. 1 and 2, and are directed by an inclined deflector plate 97 through the filters 59 into the sludge trap 55, thence to the inlet of the fan 22 or 23 and finally the air stream is directed downward through the driving 30 on the road.
To facilitate the deposition of dust inside the interior of the container, a pipe 96 is arranged (fi-, 2) for the formation of fine jets intended to produce a mist. This misting line is connected by a line to the pump 95 through a calibrated hole and a control valve (not shown) so that the humidity in the container can be controlled. The humidity should be outside the range 27% to 40% otherwise wet dust particles tend to stick to the sides of the container 10.
The pump inlet receives water from a reservoir 98, supported by the vehicle frame. Pump 95 may also feed a jet line 99 for spraying into suction nozzle 6.7, and another similar spray line may be fitted into suction nozzle 94.
To clear the material on the road which is to be sucked up by the main nozzle 67, a rotating brush 100a is mounted and driven by another shaft (not shown) of the auxiliary gearbox via a clutch. The brush is mounted on one of the side members 12 by means of a support 102 or can be mounted on the trailer 68.
Alternatively, the apparatus can be used to empty the manholes by lowering the auxiliary suction line into said manhole cover and sucking up water and mud. On entering the container, the water and mud are separated by the air current and the mud falls to the bottom of the container. Means are arranged to release this water without hindering the vacuum produced inside the container, so that the water can escape and return to the manhole.
