Vom färberischen Gesichtspunkt aus kommen vor allem die folgenden Farbstofftypen in Frage: vormetalli- sierte Farbstoffe mit einem 1 : 1 oder 1 :2 Metall- Farbstoff-Verhältnis ohne wasserlöslichmachende Grup pen;
B. Alkylaryl- sulfonate.

Process for dyeing textile material based on polypropylene The dyeing of polypropylene fibers has so far caused great difficulties because these fibers are largely chemically inert and do not have any polar groups. So you have so far mainly managed with the modifi cation of polypropylene, z. B. by bringing heavy metal compounds into the enamel, by chemical surface treatment or by incorporating amino groups or other monomers into the polymer chain. Since these measures have to be carried out on the bulk of the polymer, they are uneconomical in comparison to the conventional manufacturing processes for other types of fibers.
It has now been found that textile material based on polypropylene can be continuously dyed with good success if lipophilic dyes are padded from organic solution and the padded fabric is heat-set.
In view of the more stringent regulations in many places with regard to water pollution, this method has the advantage of reducing the amount of wastewater generated during the dyeing process.
Another advantage of this process compared to conventional dyeing with dyes dispersed in water is the possibility of using unconditioned dyes, while with conventional dyeing processes from aqueous liquor, specially conditioned dye preparations must always be used for the purpose of easy dispersion in water.
Finally, it is also possible to use dyes which have proven to be unsuitable in conventional dyeing processes from an aqueous medium. The range of dyes is expanded accordingly by dyeing from solvents.
The present invention relates to a method for dyeing textile material based on polypropylene, which is characterized in that the textile material is mixed with a solution of at least one lipophilic dye which has a melting point below 180 ° C., preferably below 160 ° C., impregnated, in particular padded, in an organic solvent, which remains inert to the textile material even at the dyeing temperature, and the textile material, after evaporation of the solution, by means of a heat treatment, preferably a dry heat treatment, at a temperature below that to fix the dye on the fiber Subjects softening point of the fiber material.
The present dyeing process is suitable for fibers made of polypropylene, such as unmodified polypropylenes with a sterically ordered structure, metal-containing polypropylenes, polypropylenes treated on the surface with phosgene or other acid halides, propylene copolymers, such as graft polymers with unsaturated monomers such as methyl methacrylate, Styrene or vinyl acetate and polypropylenes extruded together with other polymers with an affinity for dyes.
A particularly suitable textile material to be dyed is polypropylene fabric.
The dyes of the following structural classes are suitable for the present dyeing process: mono- and disazo dyes, anthraquinone, naphthoperinone, quinophthalone and methine dyes, including the styryl, azamethine and azostyryl dyes.
However, representatives of other suitable structural classes are also possible.
From a dyeing point of view, the following types of dyes are particularly suitable: pre-metallized dyes with a 1: 1 or 1: 2 metal / dye ratio without water-solubilizing groups;
Metal-free dyes which are soluble in ketones, esters, alcohols or aromatic solvents and are free from water-solubilizing groups (referred to as Solvent Dyes in the Color Index), and other organic dyes free from water-solubilizing groups, such as in particular the so-called disperse dyes defined in the Color Index.
For example, the fatty acid esters of monoazo dyes mentioned in Austrian patent specification No. 259718 may be mentioned, such as. B. the yellow monoazo dye obtainable by coupling diazotized 2-nitroaniline with N, N - (# - di-hydroxyethyl) -3-chloroaniline and subsequent esterification with 1,2-ethylhexanoic anhydride.
Anthraquinones may also be mentioned which have at least one long-chain aliphatic or cycloaliphatic group, eg. B. contain an n-butyl or butylene group in the substituents, such as. B. 1-methyl-amino-4-cyclohexylaminoanthraquinone or 1,4,5,8-tetrakis-cyclohexylaminoanthraquinone.
As a solvent, which must be inert to the textile material even at dyeing temperature, so the physical parameters of the fibers must not change, such. B. the hydrophobic, water-immiscible or only limitedly miscible solvents such as acetophenone or optionally halogenated Koh lenwasserstoffe, such as chlorobenzene or especially chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, tri- or tetra-chloroethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane or dibromoethylene called.
Water-miscible, hydrophilic solvents constitute a particularly preferred class of solvents, e.g. B. ketones such as acetone. Cyclohexanone or methyl ethyl ketone, aliphatic monohydric alcohols with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, such as. B. ethanol and propanols, dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, glycerol formal and glycol formal, as well as acetonitrile, tetrahydrofurylamine, pyridine and diacetone alcohol, also higher-boiling glycol derivatives, such as ethylene glycol monomethyl, ethyl and butyl ether, or glycol ethlycol ether, or diethylene glycol monomethyl glycol Polyethylene glycols, as far as they are liquid at room temperature, ethylene carbonate,?
-Butyrolactone and especially the group of water-miscible active solvents which boil above 120 ° C., such as N, N-dimethylformamide, N, N-dimethylacetamide, bis (dimethylamido) methane phosphate, tris (dimethylamido) phosphate, N -Methylpyrrolidone, 1,5-dimethylpyrrolidone, N, N-dimethyl-methoxyacetamide, tetramethylene sulphone (sulfolane) and 3-methyl sulfolane and dimethyl sulphoxide.
Among the hydrophilic solvents there are two preferred subgroups, namely (1) those which are used to dissolve linear, spinnable fully synthetic polymers or polycondensates, such as. B. acrylonitrile polymers are suitable and (2) the group of solvents which are miscible with water in any ratio.
Mixtures of the abovementioned solvents are also suitable.
Solvents whose boiling point does not exceed 190 ° C. are preferably used.
The padding solution can also contain Antioxida tion agent for polyolefins such. B. organotin compounds, preferably with a melting point of at most 200 C, preferably at most 140 C, such as di-n-butyltin dilaurate, di-n-butyltin maleate, or phosphites, such as tris (nonylphenyl) phosphite, or antioxidants of the alkylphenol type such as di-tert-butyl-p-cresol.
Other additives customary for polyolefins, for example ultraviolet absorbers, such as salicylic acid ester-benzophenone adducts, special dispersants such as calcium stearate or antioxidants of the amine type, can also be contained in the padding solution, even at a maximum of 200 ° C, preferably at most 140 C Melting additives preferred.
Optionally, wetting agents can also be added to the padding liquor. Preference is given to nonionic wetting agents of the compound types: a) ethers of polyhydroxy compounds, such as polyoxyalkylated fatty alcohols, polyoxyalkylated polyols, polyoxyalkylated mercaptans and aliphatic amines, polyoxyalkylated alkylphenols and naphthols, polyoxalkylated alkylaryl mercaptans and alkylarylamines.
b) Fatty acid esters of ethylene and polyethylene glycols, and of propylene and butylene glycol, and of sugar alcohols such as sorbitol, sorbitans and sucrose.
c) N-hydroxyalkyl-carbonamides, polyoxyalkylated carbonamides and sulfonamides.
Examples of useful wetting agents from these groups are: adducts of 8 moles of ethylene oxide with 1 mole of p-tert-octylphenol, 15 or 6 moles of ethylene oxide with castor oil, 20 moles of ethylene oxide with the alcohol C16H33OH, ethylene oxide adducts with di- [α-phenylethyl) phenols, polyethylene oxide tert-dodecyl thioether, polyamine polyglycol ether or adducts of 15 or 30 mol of ethylene oxide with 1 mol of amine C12H25NH2 or C18H37NH2. Next, anion-active wetting agents come into question, such as. B. alkylaryl sulfonates.
If necessary, the dye solution is freed from undissolved material by mechanical means such as filtration or centrifugation.
The impregnation takes place at room temperature or in warmth. After passing through the dye solution, the textile material can be squeezed off to the desired content of impregnation solution of about 20 to 130% of the dry fiber weight.
The impregnated or printed material is after leaving the padder, if necessary, either briefly in the warm, z. B. to 30 to 90 C heated air stream dried, or in another way, such as. B. freed from the greater part of the adhering dye solution by centrifugation. After the solvent has evaporated, it is subjected to heat setting. It takes place at over 70 C, preferably at a temperature of 90 to 140 "C. In any case, the temperature during fixation must not reach the softening temperature of the fiber.
The dwell time is generally 3t1 to 120 seconds. If thermosetting is carried out at temperatures which are about 40 ° C. and more below the softening point of the polypropylene, the residence time can be longer, for example 2 to 5 minutes.
The heat setting takes place z. B. by steaming or preferably by dry heat treatment, such as contact heat, treatment with high frequency alternating currents or irradiation in the infrared.
The optimal conditions for heat setting, excluding fiber damage, are determined by a simple preliminary test.
Swiss Patent No. 365,696 already describes a dyeing process in which polypropylene is dyed in a benzene solution at 80 ° C. with a dye made in situ from tetracyanoethylene, pyrrole and sulfur powder. The color is then fixed with saturated steam at 125 ° C. An analogous process in which the dye is produced from indole instead of pyrrole is described in Swiss Patent No. 369,739. However, both processes cannot be compared with the dyeing process according to the invention, since the dyes are produced in situ and therefore only a very limited selection of colors is available.
Furthermore, although in the French patent writings Nos. 1 174 676 and 1 176 678 dyeing process for polyolefin materials with u. a. lipophilic dyes in organic solution are mentioned, but there is no question of thermal fixation. Compared to the process according to the Swiss and French patents, the process according to the invention is distinguished by a much higher dyeing speed.
