Process for dyeing or printing cellulose-containing textile materials. From French patent specification 1 241 327 a process for dyeing and printing cellulose materials is known in which water-soluble dyes containing once or twice the group -NH-SO2-CH = CH2 are treated with alkaline agents and by heating on cellulose material fixed.
It is also known from "Melliand Textilberichte", 40, page 1036, that dyes containing vinyl sulfone dyes are formed when alkali acts on β-hydroxyethylsulfonylsulfonylsulfuric acid ester groups.
EMI0002.0002
now
<tb> It <SEP> has been found <SEP> that <SEP> one <SEP> real <SEP> dyeings <SEP> and <SEP> prints on cellulose-containing textile materials can be produced if one uses organic dyes that at least once have the group
EMI0002.0006
contain, wherein R1 is an alkyl group and R2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, applied to the textile materials and fixed at ordinary temperature or by the action of heat in the presence of alkaline agents.
In order to achieve sufficient solubility in water, the dyes used can, in addition to at least one substituent of the type indicated, also contain one or more acidic, water-solubilizing groups, such as e.g. a carboxylic acid group and / or above all a sulfonic acid group.
As starting dyes, dyes of the most varied classes can be considered, for example azin, dioxazine, nitro, stilbene, triphenylmethane or anthraquinone dyes, but in particular phthalocyanine dyes and metal-free or metal-containing azo dyes.
The dyes used in the present process can be prepared by reacting carbyl sulfate or carbyl sulfate homologues with organic dyes containing primary or secondary amino groups or from the corresponding dye precursors,
where when using starting compounds containing primary amino groups, the products initially obtained are still alkylated. For example, N-ethionylamino- or N-alkyl-N-ethionylamino-arylamines of the formula
EMI0003.0009
where A is an aryl radical and R1 is an alkyl group,
by reacting nitroarylamines with carbyl sulfate and then catalytically reducing the nitro group to the amino group. The compounds thus obtained can be used in a known manner to synthesize the dyes used.
The method can be used to produce dyeings and prints on cellulose-containing textile material of all kinds, for example on cotton, linen, hemp or regenerated cellulose or corresponding fiber mixtures.
The dyeings are expediently produced in such a way that the fiber material is impregnated with the dyes or dyed using the direct dyeing method from a long liquor. If there is no or at least no pronounced affinity for the fiber, it is advantageous to work in such a way that the material is impregnated with aqueous, optionally salt-containing solutions of the dyes, cold or at a moderately elevated temperature, and then squeezed off. The dye solutions can contain inorganic salts, such as alkali chlorides or alkali sulfates.
Inorganic compounds, for example alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxides, alkali metal bicarbonates, alkali metal carbonates, alkali metal phosphates such as trisodium phosphate or mixtures of disodium phosphate and trisodium phosphate, alkali metal borates or alkali metal salts of these alkaline agents or mixtures of these alkaline agents are used as alkaline agents.
The dyes applied in this way to the fiber material are fixed after the impregnation by the impregnated material, optionally after prior intermediate drying, e.g. subjected to a heat treatment. The heat treatment can be carried out for example by steaming or in a heated air stream or in an organic solvent at elevated temperature. If the impregnation of the fiber material takes place in the presence of an alkali hydroxide, for example, the dyes can also be fixed in the cold or at a moderately elevated temperature by leaving the impregnated fiber material for several hours.
When using practically neutral impregnating baths which do not contain any alkaline agents, the procedure for fixing the dyes is advantageously such that the impregnated goods are placed in a salt-containing alkali bath and then subjected to the heat treatment. By means of a suitable combination of temperature and pH, the dyes can also be fixed during the dyeing process.
Instead of impregnation or direct dyeing from a long liquor, the starting dyes can also be applied to the fiber material to be dyed by printing. For this purpose, the dyes are mixed with customary auxiliaries, for example urea, dispersants, thickeners such as methyl cellulose, starch ether, alginate thickeners or emulsion thickeners, and an alkaline agent of the type specified above, and printed on the goods. Practically neutral printing pastes containing no alkaline agents can also be used.
When such printing pastes are used, the goods are subjected to a treatment with alkaline agents either before the printing process or after the printing process. The dyes are fixed by heat or heat treatment of the printed material, preferably in the presence of water vapor.
The process makes it possible to produce valuable strong colors and prints in a simple manner on cellulosic materials with a fibrous structure, which are characterized by high authenticity properties.

After the impregnation, the excess liquid is squeezed off so that the material retains about 80% of its weight in dye solution.
The goods are then allowed to run on a jigger and treated for one hour at 40 ° C. in a liquor containing 300 parts by weight of sodium chloride and 5-10 parts by weight of sodium hydroxide in 1000 parts by volume of water. Since <B> at </B>, the amount of liquor is such that 3 parts by volume of the liquor are used for 1 part by weight of the <B> goods </B>. The dyed linen fabric is then acidified, rinsed with boiling water and dried.
A clear, yellow dyeing of excellent wash fastness is obtained. Instead of the above-mentioned dye, 20 parts by weight of a dye which, as a free acid, corresponds to the following formula are used
