Process for the production of a corrugated cardboard and corrugated cardboard produced according to this The previous corrugated cardboard consist of an inner corrugated layer and smooth cover sheets glued to the latter on both sides, but these are not waterproof and suffer even at low humidity. The attachment of an additional water-resistant insulating layer requires a special, cost-increasing operation and could not be attached at all with the conventional corrugated cardboard manufacturing machines.
So-called hard papers are known per se, in which different paper webs are united with one another by glue, synthetic resin adhesive or synthetic resin glue. Such hard papers could not be used for the production of corrugated cardboard, however, because of the stiffer structure, which makes it difficult to pass through the corrugated cardboard production machine, because the impregnation or the adhesive itself broke when running over a plurality of guide and deflection rollers.
The present invention now relates to a method for producing a corrugated cardboard and a corrugated cardboard produced according to this. The method according to the invention is characterized in that a thermoplastic protective coating consisting of the latter and insulating against water and moisture is formed in the same operation with the application and setting of adhesive between two corrugated cardboard webs.
The corrugated cardboard produced by the method is characterized in that between two corrugated cardboard webs there is a protective covering made of thermoplastic, insulating against water and moisture and at the same time connecting the webs to one another, which consists of cured, solidified adhesive.
The application of insulation against water and moisture is therefore carried out at the same time as the gluing operation of the various corrugated cardboard web sections, which is necessary anyway, and no additional work or a special machine is required. The new corrugated cardboard can be produced with conventional corrugated cardboard production machines after installing a relatively simple additional unit (plastic dispersion glue unit).
In the drawing, the subject matter of the invention and the corrugated cardboard making machine necessary for carrying out the process are shown, for example. 1 to 3 show the corrugated cardboard production machines necessary for carrying out the method in a schematic representation, FIGS. 4 and 5 each show an exemplary embodiment of the corrugated cardboard.
The corrugated cardboard according to FIG. 4 has in the usual manner a corrugated layer 1 and cover layers 2 and 3 formed by smooth paper webs. The corrugated layer 1 is combined with the cover layers 2, 3 by gluing, as described below, to form a whole. To seal against water and moisture, an insulating protective covering 5 is arranged between the inside of the cover layer 3 and the corrugated layer 1, which is expediently made of pliable and possibly stretchable thermoplastic plastic such as polyvinyl chloride, cellulose acetate, epoxy resin, etc.
The plastic should be an adhesive, such as a synthetic resin glue, which is applied in the form of solutions or aqueous dispersions and solidifies under the action of heat after setting. The adhesive, which can be an adhesive resin, glue resin or adhesive cement, belongs to the thermosetting or ther moplastic group. During the setting process, the insulating protective covering 5 simultaneously glues the cover layer 3 with the facing corrugation crests of the corrugated layer 1.
The formation of the insulating protective coating 5 and the bonding of the cover layer 3 to the corrugated layer 1 takes place in the same operation, so two separate work operations are unnecessary, which has a very favorable effect on the production costs.
The corrugated cardboard according to FIG. 5 has a firmer struc- ture, and the insulating protective covering 5 is arranged only between the cover layer 3 and a third cover layer 4. The insulating protective covering 5 consists of the same material or plastic as described above. The insulating protective covering 5 made of thermosetting or thermoplastic plastic now binds the cover layers 3, 4 intimately with one another and forms the seal or insulation against water and moisture.
In the manufacture of the corrugated cardboard with the Ma machine according to FIG. 1, a web formed from a cover layer 2 and the corrugated layer 1 is fed to a glue plant 9 via the deflecting cylinders 7, 8 in the machine part M. In the latter, the lower exposed side of the corrugated layer 1 is provided with a layer of glue. The corrugated layer 1 and the cover layer 2 lead away from the gluing unit 9 to a conveyor belt 10 of the drying department or the drying and pressing unit 11, which is known per se.
The second cover layer 3 is fed via the guide rollers 12, 13 and the deflection cylinders 14, 15, 16 to a plastic glue unit 17, through which the cover layer 3 is provided on the inside with a dosed layer of a plastic dispersion forming the protective insulating covering 5 and then provided under Action of an air brush 6 on the upper surface of the cover layer 3 is distributed and leveled.
From this gluing unit 17 the cover layer is guided via the guide cylinders 18, 19 to the conveyor belt 10 and combined with the corrugated layer 1 and firmly connected to one another by gluing while passing through the conventional drying and pressing unit 11. After binding and solidification, the adhesive forms the insulating protective covering 5.
According to the second example of the method with the machine according to FIG. 2, the cover layer 2, the corrugated layer 1 and the cover layer 3 come pre-solidified as corrugated cardboard in the machine part M. 7 and 8 are again the diverting cylinders and 9 the glue plant. The latter provides the lower side of the prefabricated corrugated cardboard 1, 2, 3 with a thin layer of glue. This prefabricated corrugated board is fed directly to the drying department T by means of a conveyor belt 10 from the gluing unit 9.
A third cover layer 4 is fed via the guide rollers 12, 13 and the bypass cylinders 14, 15, 16 to the gluing unit 17, through which this cover layer 4 is coated with a plastic dispersion on the side coming inward, which afterwards provides the insulating protection - Layer 5 according to FIG. 5 forms, provided and then distributed under the action of the air brush 6 on the surface of the cover layer 4 and equalized immediately.
From this gluing unit 17, the cover layer 4 is combined with the prefabricated corrugated cardboard 1, 2, 3 by the guide cylinder 18, 19 and the conveyor belt 10 and dried and pressed accordingly as it passes through the drying and pressing unit 11.
In the process with the machine according to FIG. 3, a corrugated cardboard formed from the corrugated layer 1 and the cover layer 2 is fed via the deflecting cylinders 7, 8 to the glue unit 9, which wets the corrugated apex of the corrugated layer with adhesive and leads to the drying department T by means of conveyor belt 10 . The second cover layer 3 is fed via the diverting cylinder 20, 21 to a further gluing unit 22 in the machine part M, where it is provided with a glue layer on its side facing away from the corrugated layer 1. From this gluing unit 22 away, the cover layer 3 is combined with the Wel lenlage 1 when entering the drying and pressing unit 11.
A third, additional cover layer 4 is fed via the guide rollers 12, 13 and the deflecting cylinders 14, 15, 16 to the glue unit 17, through which the additional cover layer 4 on the side coming to lie on the inside with an insulating protective covering 5 of an art Material dispersion provided and then distributed under the action of the air brush 6 on the surface of the cover layer 4 and leveled. By means of the guide cylinder 18, 19 and the conveyor belt 10, the cover layer 4 is finally combined with the cover layer 3.
When passing through the unit 11, the adhesive applied to the top layer 4 by the glue unit 17 is dried, and after the setting and solidification of the latter, the insulating protective covering 5 is formed (FIG. 5).
The gluing unit 17 forms the only additional device which is to be attached between the parts M and T of the known corrugated cardboard machine on the inlet side to the drying and pressing unit 11. It is essential in the invention that the plastic glue unit 17 is located directly in the loading area of the drying system T, specifically near the inlet side to the latter.
The application and leveling of the dispersion can of course also take place in a different manner known in technology.
