Tubular welding electrode holder with exchangeable guide and contact jaws The invention relates to a tubular welding electrode holder for continuous welding wire with internally arranged, elongated, radially movable relative to each other and exchangeable guide and contact jaws that are pressed against each other by at least one spring.
In automated electric arc welding, the welding electrode usually consists of a wire with a circular cross-section and a relatively large length. This wire is continuously fed to the welding point from a spool by a feed device, usually in the form of feed rollers.
A welding electrode holder is used to guide the wire against the welding point.
The simplest form of a welding electrode holder consists of a solid, round wire guide (mouthpiece), with the electrode being guided through a hole of an appropriately adapted diameter, so that the required guide and electrical contact between. Wire and mouthpiece are created. Although this electrode holder is simple, it is not entirely satisfactory.
This is because it is difficult to maintain an expediently adapted contact pressure between the electrode and the mouthpiece, which means that the welding current can become non-uniform.
This design can only be used appropriately for smaller electrodes, where correspondingly lower currents arise during welding.
In order to improve the guidance of this wire and, above all, to achieve better contact pressure between the electrode and the holder, it is known to design the holder in such a way that the wire runs between two spring-pressed copper jaws. These jaws usually have a parallelepipedic shape with a channel of semicircular cross-sectional shape which rests against the wire on opposite sides thereof. The jaws are pressed against their outside by means of a leaf spring, for example.
This improves the contact pressure as well as a certain straightening of the wire, which is usually pushed into the holder in a weak arc shape.
Although better than the simple round holder, the latter holder is not without its disadvantages. The design means that the holder, due to the shape of the jaws and the surrounding parts, has an essentially rectangular cross-section.
This has the consequence that the holder has to be adjusted depending on the space at the welding point. If, for example, a fillet weld is made at a corner between two angled metal sheets, the holder must be adjusted with its greatest width in the direction of the corner. With regard to the wire routing, this is not always desirable with regard to the wire supply and the direction in which the jaws are pressed against the wire.
Furthermore, the disadvantage becomes noticeable, especially in the case of powder welding, that the welding powder easily reaches between the wire and the jaw in the known nozzle, which is open for structural reasons, and the latter wears at an angle. If the guide channel is grooved too deeply, for example at one end, the jaws collide so that the contact pressure between the wire and the jaw is reduced.
The task is thus to bring about one thing. contact pressure distributed as uniformly as possible.
Since in known welding torches the FedLr, which presses the contact piece against the electrode wire, is in the mouthpiece near the arc, there is a risk that it will burn out and lose its spring force. If the contact pressure is to be changed, the spring usually has to be replaced.
The present invention aims to avoid the abovementioned inconveniences and proposes a solution to the stated problem.
The invention consists in that at least one contact jaw at points of application evenly distributed over its length by means of one or more open contact jaws with respect to the relevant contact jaw.
at one end of closed grooves in the tubular body arranged in zigzag rows and under a spring pressure exerted in the groove direction balls is pressed against the axially continuous welding wire.
An expedient development of the invention consists in that the balls and channels are arranged in such a way that one ball is supported alternately on the contact jaw and the next on the channel rear wall. The part of the channel facing the contacts can also have a smaller width than the remaining part of the channel and than the diameter of the balls.
Advantageously, the grooves and contact jaws are oriented in the longitudinal direction of the tubular mouthpiece, with precautions for bringing about clamping forces acting in this direction. Another useful embodiment of the invention is achieved in that the movable contact jaw is formed by two rows of balls which are arranged at an angle of 90 mutually forming grooves,
is influenced radially.
An embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing, namely FIG. 1 shows a longitudinal section through an embodiment of the invention, FIG. 2 shows a section along the line II-II in FIG. 1 and FIG. 3 shows a partially sectioned top view . The welding electrode holder shown consists of a tubular body 1, the front cavity 2 of which has a larger internal diameter than the rear cavity 3.
Two jaws 4, 5 are arranged in the front cavity 2. One jaw, 4, is attached to the body 1 by means of screws 6, while the other jaw, 5, is movable against and from the jaw 4.
In the axial direction, the jaw 5 is locked against displacement of a pin 7 in the body 1, which cooperates with a groove 8 in the jaw. Each of the jaws 4 and 5 is provided with an axially running channel-shaped recess 9 or 10, which recesses together form the channel through which the welding wire is to be guided.
In the manufacture of the jaws one proceeds expediently so that a rod made of a copper alloy or the like is rotated to the required diameter, a groove 8 is turned into the jacket surface and the rod is provided with a central, axially continuous bore with a diameter which corresponds to that of the welding wire.
Then the rod is sawn into two halves along an axially extending plane 11, which thus form the jaws mentioned, whereupon one half, 4, with fastening holes for the screws 6 will be seen ver.
The body 1 is seen radially outward from the cavity 2 outside the movable jaw 5 with two at an angle of 90 to each other angeordne th grooves 12, 13 with parallel side walls ver whose bottom part has a slightly smaller width than the groove in the rest and against the cavity 2 is open. A sleeve 14 is provided all around, covering the body and said grooves. In the grooves rows of balls 15 are arranged, which have such a dimension that they can move freely in the grooves, but cannot fall down from the bottom parts of the same towards the cavity 2.
In the meantime, they must be able to penetrate from said bottom parts to such an extent that they can support themselves against the outer surface of the jaw 5. By such an arrangement, the jaws can be removed from the cavity 2 without the need to change the mounting and the calibration of the balls. The grooves are so high that the balls can be arranged in zigzag rows.
A piston 16 acts against the balls and receives its pressing force from a helical spring 17, which is clamped between the Kol ben and a plug 19 screwed into a bore 18 in the extension of the channel. In permanent association with the body electrical connection devices 20 are seen before.
The assembly of the electrode holder shown takes place in the following way: After the sleeve 14 has been shrunk on, the jaw 4 is fastened by means of the screws 6, whereupon the jaw 5 is inserted and axially fixed by means of the pin 7. The balls 15 are introduced through the bore 18, care being taken that the latter take the aforementioned zigzag positions.
Then the piston 16 with the spring 17 is inserted and the plug. 19 screwed tight. The electrical connection members 20 are attached to their place, whereupon the holder is ready to be attached to the welding wire feed device (not shown).
After it has been attached to the welding wire feed device, the welding wire (not shown) is: down through the cavity 3 between the jaws and the longitudinal recesses 9 and! 10 out, wherein the jaw 5 is displaced in the radial direction. This creates a gap between the jaws, which in the main corresponds to the strength of the saw cut when the jaws are manufactured. The wire is pushed further through the holder to the welding point.
As is clear from the figure, a very uniform distribution of this pressure of the jaws against the welding wire is obtained by pressing every second ball against the jaw so that a plurality of uniformly distributed points of application are formed along the jaw.
Fer ner can easily be adjusted by changing the screwing of this plug 19 and / or the tension of the spring 17, the contact pressure between the jaws and the wire, whereby a uniform power supply and a uniform welding process are ensured. In the construction shown there are no spring elements in direct contact with the jaws 5, which could be damaged by heat transfer. Ge named embodiment has a circular cross-sectional shape of relatively small diameter.
The holder can therefore easily be adapted to different positions, regardless of the space around the welding point. The holder forms a completely closed construction, whereby the inconvenience is avoided that welding powder gets between the wire and the jaws and causes abnormal wear.
