Emballage
la fig. 1 est une vue en perspective du premier mode de réalisation de l'emballage;
Grâce à la bande profilée 42 tout risque de rupture du joint étanche par un déplacement latéral d'une paroi latérale 36 est éliminé. En raison de l'écarte- ment prévu entre l'angle 16 de la base et la bande profilée 42 du couvercle, tout déplacement latéral de la paroi latérale 36 est automatiquement compensé par la bande 42 sans que l'étanchéité du joint constitué encre le bord inférieur de la bande profilée 42 et la garniture 24 s'en trouve affectée. Sur la figure, le bord 38 est représenté comme étant en contact avec le panneau de base 12 ;
Dans une variante du récipient, la jupe du couvercle comporte une ligne d'arrachement, ou, de préférence, deux lignes d'arrachement parallèles s'étendant circonférentiellement et parallèlement par rapport à la zone d'étanchéité définie entre le couvercle et l'a base, lesdites lignes d'arrachement étant disposées de telle manière à proximité de la zone d'étanchéité qu'au moins la ligne d'arrachement t supé- rieure soit située au-dessus de ladite zone d'étan déité, cependant que la tirette est reliée à la bande, ou partie de la paroi du couvercle, qui est définie entre lesdites lignes d'arrachement circonférentielles parallèles ;
Dans cette variante, lorsque la tirette est tirée vers le haut et/ou vers l'extérieur, elle détruit tout d'abord l'étanchéité en soulevant les parties adjacentes du couvercle par rapport aux parties correspondantes de la base ;
Packaging
The present invention relates to a packaging of a vacuum food product, comprising a rigid base and a hollow cover made of flexible material, and said cover being removably held on the base.
It should be noted that the term product as used for the purposes of this specification is to be interpreted as meaning any one of a plurality of products including not only brake, jelly, fish and the like, but also and, more particularly, smoked or canned meats in the form of individual portions, such as cooked ham in slices, smoked ham in slices, several sausages, for example sausages of the Frankfurt type, etc.
However, to simplify the description below, it will relate to a container containing canned meats of the aforementioned type.
We already know a number of packaging of the type considered here. However, the known packaging requires more or less complicated constructions in order to ensure the connection between the constituent parts of the packaging, that is to say in order to obtain a secure and hermetic seal. It is obvious that the manufacture of such structu! relatively complex res are difficult and expensive. In addition, because of their very complexity, a large number of these packages must be discarded, because they do not provide the desired hermetic and secure seal.
The packaging according to the invention does not have any of these drawbacks; it is remarkable in that the base comprises a central planar wall integral with a skirt and which constitutes the inner wall of a circumferential groove, the outer wall and the bottom of which are constituted by a flat and a rolled rim forming a bead, respectively, in that the cover comprises a skirt connected by one of its ends to an upper wall and provided at its opposite end with a circumferential flat extending outwardly from said skirt and the width of which is lower than that of the flat of the base,
in that the flat of the skirt of the cover and the inner face of the adjacent circumferential area of said cover skirt are in intimate and continuous contact with the flat of the base and with the skirt of the base, respectively, when the cover fits. is in the closed position, so that maintaining the lid in this position results, at least in part, from the vacuum prevailing inside the container.
Two embodiments of the invention will be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing.
On this drawing
fig. 1 is a perspective view of the first embodiment of the packaging;
fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1
fig. 3 is a cross section taken substantially along line 3-3 of FIG. 2
fig. 4 is a view similar to that of FIG. 3 and shows a second embodiment.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1-3, the base is indicated, as a whole, at 10. The base 10 is made of a relatively rigid material, preferably sheet metal, such as tin; However, it can be constituted by other materials such as plastic, coated paper impermeable to humidity, grease or oils, etc., having the required mechanical characteristics, and more particularly the necessary rigidity. In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, the base 10 is rectangular it may however have any other suitable shape, for example circular (see FIG. 4).
The base 10 comprises a central plate, or panel, 12 surrounded by a skirt 14. The skirt 14 and the panel 12 define an angle 16. At its lower periphery, the skirt 14 extends horizontally outward with a view to form a peripheral flat
17 forming a flange. At its outer periphery, the flat 17 is integral with a rolled rim 18 forming a bead.
The bead 18 can be obtained in any suitable manner; however, it is preferably formed by rolling the outer marginal zone adjacent to the flat 17 upwards, or outwards and then bending it back itself. At least part of the bead 18 extends above the level of the flat 17, so as to define a peripheral groove 20, the purpose of which will be described in more detail below. Thanks to the configuration of the base comprising the skirt 14 and the central panel 12, a cavity 22 is obtained on the underside of the base 10.
This cavity has dimensions such that it can receive the upper part of another container, in order to facilitate vertical stacking of a certain number of containers.
A seal 24 surrounds the skirt 14; in the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1-3, the trim 24 extends from a line located approximately in the middle of the skirt 14 at least to the junction between the skirt 14 and the flat 17.
The liner may be of a suitable rubber-like material. However, it is advantageous to use a gasket 24 made of a relatively flexible plastic material, of which rubber is the main ingredient.
In this advantageous form, the gasket 24 is relatively tacky, so that it can adhere to the skirt 14 and is capable of forming a seal by adhesion under the effect of pressure, when the interested part of the cover is pressed against said lining.
A product 26 is held on panel 12.
The periphery of at least the part of the product 26 held in place by the panel 12 is at a certain distance from the corner 16. In other words, the transverse dimensions of the panel 12 are greater than the corresponding transverse dimensions of the product 26. Preferably, the product 26 has a substantially regular shape, that is to say it must have at least one axis of symmetry. However, the container can contain a product of any shape, that is to say a product constituting a single coherent mass, a product in slices, pieces, etc.
It is only necessary, whatever the shape of the product 26, to first give the cover, which will be described more fully below, a shape such that it substantially matches the shape of the product.
Particularly in the case of products divided into pieces and reconstituted by juxtaposition of these pieces, intended for the preparation of quick meals, it is desirable to eliminate from the product, before packaging, all the oxygen or other gas that it may contain. . In this way, the release of this gas is avoided inside the vacuum sealed package, which release would have the effect of reducing the negative pressure inside the container.
The gas or gases contained in the product can be eliminated by subjecting it to a vacuum after having been cut into pieces.
A cover, indicated at 28, encloses the product 26 and is fixed to the base 10. The cover 28 is made up of a single preformed part, before its installation and on the blase 10, so as to match the shape of the product 26 Preferably, the cover 28 is made of a substantially transparent thermoplastic material having a sufficient thickness to allow the cover to support itself and to substantially retain the shape which has been conferred on it.
Various polymers, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene, and the like, can be used in the manufacture of cover 28; however, a cover consisting of unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, known under the trade designation Genotherm, is preferred. This material has been found to have over other materials tested the advantage of exhibiting the desired combination of desired characteristics, such as transparency, ease of shaping, resistance to the action of gases such as oxygen, and a relatively low cost price.
The cover 28 has an upper end bottom or wall indicated at 30, the inner surface of the central portion 32 of which comes into contact with the upper surface of the product 26 when a vacuum is established in the container. In the embodiments shown, and in most practical cases to be considered, the upper surface of the product 26 is substantially planar, so that the central portion 32 of the end 30 is also substantially planar and in intimate contact with the product. 26 when the packaging has been evacuated.
A bulge 34 surrounding the periphery of the central part 32 and integral with the latter extends upwards from this central part. Under normal conditions, this bulge does not come into contact with product 26. Since product 26, whether sliced meat, cheese or the like, is packaged by weight rather than by function. in its shape, slight variations may occur that an't in the height and transverse dimensions of the product held on the base 10. The bulge 34 automatically compensates for slight variations in the shape of the product, either by lengthening, or by contracting, as needed.
The bulge 34 is connected to the side wall 36 of the cover 28; this side wall extends downward to a point, or level 38, near the panel 12. At a slight distance above its lower edge 38, the wall 36 has an outer peripheral lateral bulge 40. The side wall The lateral bulge 40 serves to prevent the total interlocking and therefore the seizing of a phirality of the overlapping lids 28 during their automatic conveyance to an assembly machine, during manufacture of the filled packages.
A profiled flexible strip 42 integral with the side wall 36 extends, from the edge 38, outwards and downwards around the angle 16 of the base, the profile of this strip preferably describing a tarc; the lower part of the profiled strip 42 is applied to the sealing gasket 24. Due to the adhesion characteristics, the gasket 24 helps to ensure the maintenance of the cover 28 on the base 10. In addition to this adhesive bond, atmospheric pressure contributes to maintaining the cover 28 on the base 10. A flat 44 extends outwardly from the lower periphery of the profiled strip 42 to which it is integral, and rests on the flat 17 of the base.
During the initial placement of the cover 28 over the product 26 on the base 10, before the vacuum is established, the side walls 36 have a profile that diverges slightly from the bulge 34, so that its lower edge 38 is offset outwards with respect to the lateral faces of the product 26. When the filled container is subjected, after the vacuum has been established, to atmospheric pressure, the latter exerts an inward pressure on the side walls 36, which tends to move the latter in the direction of the lateral faces of the product and to bring the major part of it into intimate contact with the latter.
In the case of a round package, this inward movement effected by the peripheral wall 36 occurs over substantially the entire circumference. In the case of a square or rec-angular package (cf. the figures), the rigid corners of the cover 28 oppose this lateral or inward pressure; however, starting from the corners, the inflection of the side walls increases gradually and reaches its maximum value in the central part of these plaroils, thus giving them a curved configuration (see fig. 3).
If the wall 36 extended along a substantially straight line from the bulge 34 to the joint 24, this inward movement would cause the lower portion of the side wall to pivot about the corner 16, whereupon the lower part of the side wall and its flat would tend to come out of the gasket 24, which would have the effect of weakening, or even eliminating, the hermetic closure. This same undesirable effect would occur if, by improper handling of the packaging, the side wall was pushed strongly inward.
Thanks to the profiled strip 42 any risk of rupture of the seal by a lateral displacement of a side wall 36 is eliminated. Due to the spacing provided between the angle 16 of the base and the profiled strip 42 of the cover, any lateral displacement of the side wall 36 is automatically compensated for by the strip 42 without the sealing of the joint formed causing it lower edge of the profiled strip 42 and the lining 24 is affected. In the figure, edge 38 is shown as being in contact with base panel 12;
this arrangement is achievable; however, preferably, the edge 38 of the wall 36 is spaced slightly from the panel 12, for example by 0.08 mm, in order to create the necessary play for a pivoting movement of the wall 36 around the bulge 34. Such a movement can therefore only cause a slight oscillation of the lower part of the profiled strip 42 around the junction line between itself and the flat 44. This slight oscillation - If it occurs - does not affect the 'tightness of the hermetic seal, and during an inflection of the wall 36, it causes the lower part of the profiled strip 42 to reinforce its sealed conbact with the gasket 24.
At a chosen location, the flat 44 of the cover is extended beyond its periphery so as to form a pull tab 46. In the case of a receptacle rec t, angular, such as that shown in FIGS. 1-3, this pull tab is preferably arranged in close proximity to a corner of the package. This arrangement of the pull tab 46 makes it easier to release b flat 44 (and the adjacent part of the strip 42) of the liner 24, with a view to opening the container.
This arrangement of the pull tab 46 also allows a more judicious use of the material used for the formation of the cover 28. The free end of the pull tab 46 is profiled (cf. FIG. 3) in order to allow a better grip when grips it in order to release the flat 44 and the lower part of the profiled strip 42.
In a variant of the container, the skirt of the cover comprises a tear-off line, or, preferably, two parallel tear-off lines extending circumferentially and parallel with respect to the sealing zone defined between the cover and the a. base, said tear-off lines being disposed in such a manner near the sealing zone that at least the upper tear-off line t is situated above said sealing zone, while the pull tab is connected to the strip, or part of the wall of the cover, which is defined between said parallel circumferential tear lines;
to this end, one of the side edges of the zipper is extended by a tear-off line per pendicular to said circumferential tear-off lines and connected to one of the latter, while the other side edge of the zipper is extended by a similar perpendicular tear line, which is connected to the second of said circumferential tear lines.
In this variant, when the pull tab is pulled up and / or outward, it first destroys the seal by lifting the adjacent parts of the cover relative to the corresponding parts of the base;
when the tensile force on the zipper is continued, the aforementioned strip defined between the tear-off lines' circumferential sentinels is torn off, which has the effect of releasing the upper part of the cover which can then be removed without difficulty . It is understood that mowing antre arrangement of the pull tab and / or tear lines can be provided, where appropriate, instead of the arrangement described above.
As was said above, the bead 18 of the base 10 rises above the level of the flat 17 of the base, so as to determine the peripheral groove 20 between the bead 18 and the skirt 14 of the base. . As shown in fig. 2, the flat 44 of the cover and the sealing area between the flexible profiled strip 42 and the skirt 14 of the fuck are located substantially inside this groove 20. This arrangement of the flat of the cover and the gasket to the inside the groove 20 protects the seal against any risk of untimely breakage during handling.
The packaging described can be assembled in a relatively easy manner by placing the base 10 provided with the gasket 24, the product 26 and the cover 28, in a sealed enclosure, under reduced pressure or under vacuum. The product being placed on the base panel 12, the cover is placed over the product by a simple linear movement; it is also possible to place the product 26 inside the cover 28 and then to place the base 10 on the open end of the cover, by a similar linear movement.
During this assembly operation, the lower part of the profiled strip 42 is pressed against the gasket 24 so as to form therewith a tight seal; and the flat 44 of the cover is located inside the groove 20, in intimate contact with the flat 17 of the base. When removing the vacuum in the enclosure, the assembled package is exposed to atmospheric pressure, the flexible parts of the side walls 36 of the cover 28 deform by performing a pivoting movement around their upper ends, so as to enter in contact with the side faces of the product 26.
As stated above, thanks to the flexibility, shape and location of the profiled strip 42, this deformation of the side walls 36 in no way affects the tightness of the closed container. It emerges from the above that the container can be assembled easily without having to resort to special strongly adhesive substances in order to hold the cover firmly on the base, or to special tools for mechanically connecting the cover. blase, for example by crimping, etc.
As has been said above, instead of having a generally rectangular shape (in plan), the container can have any other suitable regular shape. Thus, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 4, the container has a circular outline. This figure will not be described in more detail, given that the different elements of the container are designated by the same numerical references (followed by the index a) as the corresponding elements in FIGS. 1-3.
