Description

Additional patent subordinate to main patent NO 384115 Paint applicable under water The present invention relates to a paint applicable under water according to claim I - of the main patent, characterized in that it also comprises at least one solvent whose solubility in water is less than 0.1 g per liter.
It has been observed that in said paint, the water-soluble solvent (s) acting as a third solvent entrain the insoluble solvent (s) in the water until they are completely removed from the paint layer.
Thus a mixture of .solvents consisting of 43 parts of xylene (insoluble in water) 43 parts of methylene chloride 43 parts of butyl alcohol is completely removed from the paint layer. The film hardens: under water more slowly than in the case of water-soluble solvents, for example in a week or so.
As very slightly soluble in water, toluene will also be used, for example (solubility 0.047 g at 16 ° C.).
The presence of polar solvents significantly increases the adhesion of the paint layer at the time of application and thus enhances the action of the amine.
It is advantageous in some cases to add zinc oxide and an organic bentonite gel to the paint. Zinc oxide slightly lightens the pigmentary part of the paint and therefore delays sedimentation to a minimum, while organophilic bentonite gel, preferably of the dimethylactadecyl type:
amoni.um7bentonite, has the property, by modifying the viscosity (thixotropy) of delaying or even eliminating the sedimentation of pigments without adversely affecting the adhesion of the paint. Bentone is added in a proportion of 1.3 to 2,
5% of the total weight of the paint. The use of solvents which are insoluble or very slightly soluble in water mixed with water-soluble solvents has the advantage of prolonging the period of stability of the solvent mixture under water and of greatly facilitating the application of the solution. underwater painting thus carried out with ease as well as the recovery on a large surface.
Paint formula, for fresh water, according to the invention given by way of example
