The present invention relates to an apparatus for controlling a pneumatic circuit breaker.
According to the invention, this control device is characterized in that it comprises an exhaust valve which is opened by movement, an actuating mechanism, so as to cause the opening or closing of the circuit breaker, and a .
return device actuated by the movement of the circuit breaker and arranged - so as to return said actuation mechanism to its initial position and thus to cause the exhaust valve to close again.
An embodiment of the control apparatus according to the invention is described below, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, which schematically shows the active part of a circuit breaker and the corresponding control unit.
The device described below controls a single circuit breaker, although two circuit breakers are generally used in series, in which case the structure is symmetrical on either side of line XX, the control unit operating. then in the same way for the second circuit breaker as for the one described.
The circuit breaker shown generally at 12 is mounted on a common central body 23, by which it is connected to the other circuit breaker in series. The operation of the circuit breakers is controlled by a common exhaust valve 18, which can be actuated so as to communicate a common outlet passage 20 of the. circuit breakers with atmosphere through passages 22.
The circuit breakers are also connected by a common passage 21 to a source of pressurized gas. In what follows we are talking about air, but it goes without saying that any other suitable gas can be used. The electric line 10 is connected to an end plate 24, on which is mounted a contact 25, the end plate being fixed to the central body 23 by means of a porcelain insulator 26.
The contact 25 is arranged so as to be able to move slightly, but it is nevertheless considered to be the fixed contact. In relation to the fixed contact 25 is a movable contact 27, arranged so as to slide in a cylinder 28, which forms part of the central body 23.
The movable contact 27 is connected to a piston 29 by means of a rod 30. This rod cooperates with a lever 31, which pivots @en 32 and is engaged with a collar 33 connected to a pivoting collar 35 by a spring 34 The arrangement allows a rocking action, the spring 34 pushing the contact 27 towards each of its extreme positions. The passage 21 forms part of the base of the central body 23 and communicates with a space 36 which surrounds the contacts 25 and 27.
The space 37 in the cylinder 28 is not in communication with the space 36 when the contacts 25 and 27 touch each other, but it communicates directly with the passage 20 and thus with the exhaust valve 18. The ducts 2.2 are formed in the body 38 of the exhaust valve 18.
This valve is balanced and is held in the closed position by a spring 39. The interior of the body 38 of the valve is connected by a duct 40 with the space 36, so that it communicates with the source. pressure. The valve is provided with an annular piston 41, the space located under this piston being able to be placed in communication either with the pressure source or with the atomosphere.
The valve actuation mechanism includes a vertical rod 58 which tends to be pushed upward by a spring 59, so as to move upward when a ratchet device (not shown) is released.
A lever 60 which pivots close to its center is connected by one of its ends, to the rod 58 and by the other to the center of an angled lever 61, the ends of which are connected one to a rod 62, the other to a rod 63, which is itself connected to the end @du lever 31 on the side opposite that of the rod 30.
The rod 62 cooperates at its two ends with valves 64 and 65, the pistons of which are pushed against this rod by springs 66 and 67. The valve 64 communicates by a duct 68 with a space 69 located on the left side of the piston 29 on the drawing.
In one of the positions (that towards which it is pushed by the spring), the valve 64 puts the space 69 in communication with the passage 21 by a duct 70, and, in the other of the positions., It places the The space 69 in communication with the atmosphere, through an orifice 71. The space 72 located on the right side of the piston 29 communicates with the passage 20 through a conduit 73.
The other valve 65 communicates through a conduit 74 with the space 75 located under the annular piston 41 of the exhaust valve 18 and, in the position to which it is pushed by the spring, it places the space 75 in communication. with the atmosphere through an orifice 76; in its other position, it puts the space 75 in communication with the passage 21 via a duct 77.
When the circuit breaker 12 (and the other circuit breaker located on the other side of line XX, when two circuit breakers are used in series) is closed, the corresponding electrical circuit is activated, the exhaust valve 18 is closed and the spaces 36, 37 and the passage 20 contain air under pressure, as a result of the slow leak of air between the contact 27 and the cylinder 28.
When the circuit breaker is tripped, the rod 58 moves upwards under the influence of the spring 59, which causes the lever 60 to swing around its pivot and moves the rod 62 downwards, by the bent lever 61, which moves the valve 65 so as to communicate the space 75 under the piston of the valve 18 with the passage 21, which contains air under pressure.
The valve opens and air flows from space 72 to the right side of piston 29, through passages 73 and 20, then to the atmosphere through valve 18. Since the side left of the piston 29 remains subjected to the high pressure which prevails in @e pasaage 21, through the ducts 68 and 70, the piston 29 and the movable contact 27 move to the right,
which cuts the circuit by moving the contacts 25 and 27 apart.
It goes without saying that a jet of air from the pressure source 21 occurs between the separating contacts, which extinguishes the arc of the well known light.
This movement of the contact 27 compresses the spring 34 of the lever, while the piston 29 passes its middle position, the spring helping to bring the contact 27 to its extreme position. The lower end of the lever 31 is moved to the left, which causes the angled lever 61 to switch by the rod 63. This lever being pivoted at the end of the lever 60, the rod 62 then moves upwards and allows the valve piston 65 to reach its highest position under the action of spring 67. The rod 62 is thus restored to its middle position.
Therefore, the space 75 communicates with the atmosphere through the conduit 74 and the orifice 76, so that the valve 18 closes by the action. of its spring 39.
The closing of the exhaust valve 18 causes an increase in the pressure in the passage 20 and in the space 72, until it is equal to the pressure prevailing in the chamber 36. The pressures are thus the same. same on both sides of the piston 29 and the movable contact remains where it is, because it is retained by the spring 34 of the lever. So that the contact 27 comes to press against the contact 25, the rod 58 must be moved downwards by loading the spring 59. This causes the lever 60 to swing around its axis and raises the central pivot of the elbow lever 61, which lifts in turn the rod 62.
As a result, the valve 64 is actuated, overcoming the pressure of the spring 66, which puts the space 69 on the left side of the piston 29 in communication with the atmosphere, through the conduit 68 and the orifice 71. L 'space 72 remaining connected to passage 21 by conduit 73, space 37 and space 36, piston 29 then moves to the left, which presses contact 27 against fixed contact 25.
This movement of the piston 29 rocks the lever 31, the lower end of which moves to the right, which moves the rod 63 and causes the bent lever 61 to swing, which moves the lever 62 downwards. The piston of the valve 64: descends under the influence of the spring 66, which puts the space 69 in communication with the pressure source. The space 72 being already at the pressure of the source :, because the exhaust valve is closed, the pressures on either side of the piston 29 are substantially equal.
The movable contact 27 remains in the closed position under the action of: the spring 34 of the lever.
It is obvious that the described control apparatus could be arranged ide so as to close the contacts of the circuit breaker when the exhaust valve is opened.
