Shaft seal The subject of the application is a shaft seal device with a co-rotating sealing ring, wel cher is held in a socket and rests on an end wall of the shaft duct in a resiliently flexible manner.
In known shaft seals of this type, the socket is arranged in a recess of a fixed housing and rotatably connected to the shaft ver. The rotating sealing ring is held under the action of a Fe arranged in the socket on the end wall in support, which is often designed in the form of a cover or a Ge threaded bushing and closes the recess.
The connection of the socket with the shaft within the forced very tightly dimensioned recess and in an axial distance from the end wall caused by the desired surface pressure has so far offered hardly any difficulties and could practically only be carried out with a housing divided by an axial plane. Under these circumstances, it goes without saying that the previously commonly used stuffing boxes could not simply, in most cases not at all, be replaced by the modern shaft seals of the type mentioned above.
The purpose of the invention is now to create a shaft seal device which can be easily mounted in spite of the scarcity of the recess provided for this purpose and in the correct axial position. In particular, the invention aims to provide a shaft seal which is suitable to be mounted instead of stuffing boxes. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the socket extends through the end wall and is releasably connected to the shaft on the side of the end wall facing away from the sealing ring.
In the accompanying drawing, for the sake of clarity, an originally with a stuffing box, now sealed with an embodiment of the subject invention shaft leadthrough is shown in axial section.
The provided in a housing 1 for receiving the gland packing, the shaft 2 around giving cylindrical recess 3 is closed to the outside by means of a cover 4, when the latter with the help of the screws 5 and the intermediate layer of a seal 6 against the intended end face of the housing 1 is pressed. In the drawing, the cover 4 is at a distance in front of the seal 6 for a purpose to be explained in more detail later.
On a running surface 7 that surrounds the shaft 2 and is arranged on the side of the cover 4 facing the recess 3, the end-face sealing surface 8 'of a sealing ring 8 also surrounding the shaft 2 rests under the action of a helical spring 9, which over a disk 10 and an O-ring 11 is supported on the sealing ring 8 and at the other end on the bottom 12 'of a pot-shaped holder 12. The jacket 12 "of the socket 12 nevertheless surrounds the helical spring 9 and a conical extension 8" of the sealing ring 8, on the inwardly conical surface of which the O-ring 11 is pressed.
At the front edge of the shell 12 'is formed by indentation we least one driving cam 13 which engages in a corresponding radial recess of the log ring 8, whereby the latter is rotatably connected to the socket 12 with axial displacement.
A tubular extension 15 'of an annular flange 15 arranged on the outside of the cover and surrounding the shaft 2 extends through the through hole 14 of the cover 4, which extension 15' extends through the central recess of the base 12 'of the socket 12 and with the mount is connected in a rotationally fixed manner by a tongue 16 that is folded out from the wall of the extension and engages in a radial recess 17.
It goes without saying that the O-ring 11 rests in a fluid-tight manner both on the inner conical surface of the sealing ring 8 and on the extension 15 '.
At the front, in the drawing, right end face of the annular flange 15 is an adjusting ring 18 which is connected to the flange 15 by screws 19. Between the annular flange 15 and the adjusting ring 18, an O-ring 21 is arranged in an annular space 20 formed by a bevel of the adjusting ring 18, which rests sealingly on the shaft 2, on the annular flange 15 and on the inclined surface of the adjusting ring 18.
The adjusting ring 18 can be connected non-rotatably to the shaft 2 in any axial position with the aid of clamping screws 22 - only one such screw is visible in the drawing.
The shaft seal described can, after the surface 7 of the cover 4 has been correspondingly smoothed, but without further changes to the housing, be mounted as follows: First, the extension 15 'is carried out through the through hole 14 of the dismantled cover 4 so that the ring flange 15 on the outside of the lid 4 comes to lie conditions. The sealing ring 8, the O-ring 11, the disk 10, the helical spring 9 and finally the socket 12 are then pushed onto the extension 15 'one after the other.
Finally, the tongue or tongues 16 is formed or folded up into the recess 17. Now the cover 4 with the partially mounted shaft seal is pushed onto the shaft 2, and the screws 5 are inserted so that the cover 4 - as shown, still at a distance in front of the you device 6 due to the desired tension of the helical spring 9 lies. The O-ring 21 and finally the adjusting ring 18 are then pushed onto the shaft 2, and the adjusting ring is firmly connected to the annular flange 15 with the aid of the screws 19.
After tightening the clamping screws 22, the adjusting ring 18 and thus the entire shaft seal with the shaft 2 is rotatably connected. Finally, the screws 5 are tightened until the cover 4 rests on the housing 1 in a sealing manner. The helical spring 9 is then pretensioned in such a way that the sealing ring 8 rests precisely on the track 7 of the cover with the necessary or desired surface pressure. Under these circumstances, the dynamic seal formed by the sealing ring 8 and the raceway 7 of the cover 4 ensures a permanently hermetic sealing of the shaft bushing. The remaining seals, namely the seal 6 and the two O-rings 11 and 21 act as static seals, the durability of which is not problematic anyway.
The sealing effect of the dynamic seal depends, in addition to the correct surface pressure, which in the present case can be set and readjusted, to a large extent on the nature of the materials used. Satisfactory results have been achieved with a sealing ring made of plastic, self-lubricating material in connection with a metal cover, advantageously made of steel or bronze.
In the foregoing, the use of the shaft seal in a stuffing box closed by means of a cover was described. It goes without saying that existing stuffing boxes can also be equipped with such a shaft seal if they are not closed with a cover but with a threaded sleeve. It is also understood that the shaft seal described is not only suitable for replacing the conventional shaft seals in existing machines, but also significantly facilitates the relevant task arising in new designs due to its limited space requirements and easy assembly.
