The present invention relates to a method of weed control and a fast acting weedkiller.
A problem. which often arises in the destruction of undesirable plants, consists in obtaining an action after as short a time as possible. This is generally only achieved with herbicidal substances the use of which entails certain disadvantages.
The present process makes significant progress in the destruction of undesirable plants, since it makes it possible to carry out the treatment under the required health and safety conditions, while producing a very rapid herbicidal effect.
The process according to the invention consists in using, as weedkillers, secondary amines.
The secondary amines preferably used correspond to the general formula R1 - NH - R2 in which R1 and R2 can be alkyl, alkylaryl or alicyclic radicals. These radicals can be substituted: in particular, when it comes to alkyl radicals, they can be branched or / and substituted.
The radicals R1 and R2 in these secondary amines may optionally be identical. When they are different, they can belong to the same series or else to two different series: it is in particular possible to employ secondary amines in which the two radicals are alkyl, alkylaryl or alicyclic, but it is also of interest to use amines in which one of the two radicals is alkyl,
the second being alkyl aryl or alicyclic. It is also possible to employ amines in which one of the radicals is alkyl aryl and the other alicyclic.
It is preferable that the alkyl radicals, branched or not, present in the molecule of the secondary amine, have a number of carbons from 3 to 18. Particularly favorable results are obtained with secondary amines of which R1 consists of a radical alkyl comprising 3 to 18 carbon atoms, while R2 is an alkylaryl radical.
The secondary amines to be used as herbicides, according to the new process, can be used in solution, in emulsion or in dispersion, alone or optionally added with other substances such as, for example, adjuvants or other herbicides.
The preferred form in which the secondary amines are employed is a homogeneous suspension of 5 to 100 kg of secondary amines in 10001 of water, added in a small amount, for example 0.01 to 0.5% of a surfactant facilitating the dispersion of the amine in water.
As a surfactant, a soluble salt of a sulfonated fatty acid, an alkyl-aryl-sulfonate of Na, K, NH4 or amine, a sulfonated alcohol such as, for example, sulfonated lauryl alcohol, and a sulfonated alcohol, can be employed. generally one or more surfactants described for example in the work by Schwartz-Perry: Surface active agents (Intersciences Publishers, London, 1949).
The preferred suspensions contain 15 to 45 kg of secondary amines per 1000 l of water, ie 15 to 45 g per liter.
According to one variant, these suspensions also contain a hydrocarbon such as for example a petroleum oil or squalene, preferably in the proportion of 5 to 50 kg per 1000 l of water.
Depending on the nature of the plants to be destroyed, the nature of the soil, the season and depending on the other factors that may come into play, it may be advantageous to use, as a mixture, several secondary amines of different composition.
One method of treatment, which is often recommended, consists in adding to the secondary amines one or more other slower-acting weedkillers. Thus, for example, mixtures of secondary amines with 3-amino-1-2-4-triazole provide an immediate herbicidal effect thanks to the presence of the secondary amines and, at the same time, a delayed action due to the adjuvant. As regards the doses of the new herbicide to be used, they depend, of course, on various local factors, but generally good results are obtained with doses of 10 to 50 kg per hectare.
In order to illustrate the invention, a few examples are described below.
Example 1 On terrines comprising plants of ruta bagas and wheat, an emulsion of dilaurylamine is sprayed at a dose of 12 kg / ha. Rutabagas seedlings begin to curl 5 minutes after treatment. After 2 hours, all the rutabagas are in bed and the wheat begins to be affected. 20 hours later, all the seedlings are affected.
Example 2 An aqueous emulsion of diheptylamine is pulverized on mustard and wheat seedlings, at a rate of 15 kg of diheptylamine per hectare. After 15 minutes, the mustard plants curl and die quickly. After 24 hours, the wheat is affected, it is practically killed after 4 days. Example 3 An aqueous emulsion of cyclohexyl-laurylamine, spread on the ground at a rate of 15 kg of this secondary amine per hectare, gives the following results, indicated in% destruction.

A destruction as massive as in Examples 3 to 5 was observed after 8 days. This result is visibly due to the secondary amine alone since the aminotriazole gives, under the same conditions, only burns and bleaching. on some plants. The presence of the aminotriazole helped to prevent the regrowth of plants destroyed rapidly by the secondary amine.
