Stuffing box packing The invention relates to an axially tightenable and elastically deformable stuffing box packing with min least one sealing element in the form of a lip penringes, which is pressed from its rear side by means of a rigid ring it axially against a supporting second rigid annular part.
Previously known and for sealing, or from strip preferably used in reciprocating Be movements lip rings can be arranged individually or several in a row. If they are arranged individually, the axial tension on the shorter, more compact support part of the lip penringes is exerted either directly or via an intermediate layer. This intermediate layer can be a round rubber, a soft pack or the like.
When tightened axially, the support ring itself or via the intermediate layer presses the support part of the lip ring against the pressure ring, and at the same time the intermediate layer presses against the lip and presses the sealing edge or the back of the lip against the part to be sealed, for example a plunger or a pipe.
If the lip rings are arranged in groups one behind the other without rigid intermediate rings, when axially tightening the back or the part adjoining it presses the sealing lip of the adjacent lip ring against the part to be sealed and the sealing lip of the lip ring closest to the support ring is over again an intermediate layer - round rubber or soft packing -. pressed on.
The surface of the support part, on which the axial pressure is exerted, is inclined in lip ring shapes known up to now, in such a way that with internal sealing lips the axial distance of the surface from the axially normal apex surface passing through the lip ring back is smaller from the outside to the inside and becomes smaller from the inside to the outside with external sealing lips.
When several lip rings are arranged one behind the other without intermediate rings, the usually round back of the next lip ring presses on this surface. With the last lip ring, as well as in the case when only one lip ring is arranged, the intermediate layer, which also usually has a round shape, presses against this surface.
Axial tightening is necessary for this type of seal during installation, regardless of whether it is used as a wiper element or as a sealing element, even if, when used as a sealing element, the seal is not achieved by pressure from the gland follower, but by its own working pressure the machine that comes behind the sealing lip and presses it against the part to be sealed.
Stuffing box packings with lip rings of this shape have the disadvantage that the frictional force generated between the sealing lip and the parts to be sealed can be uncontrolled by pulling axially during installation.
In addition, the characteristic between axial tightening and the resulting frictional force is very steep, i.e. H. with a relatively low tightening force, the frictional force increases comparatively strongly. Thus, during installation, the thrust force to be exerted on the part to be sealed can easily become very high by tightening it a little too much, and there is a risk of overheating and pitting. Since the degree of attraction depends on the feeling d. H. depends on the experience of the fitter, the respective size of the frictional force is more or less due.
The present invention enables these disadvantages to be avoided. The result is that the characteristic between axial tightening and the resulting frictional force is less steep. This is advantageous during installation, because by pulling axially, the frictional force between the sealing lip and the part to be sealed increases less.
In addition, the frictional force can only be increased up to a certain level by further axial tightening. If the frictional force reaches this level, this force will decrease again by further tightening. Thus, such a stuffing box is self-locking in this way, i. H. by tightening the gland follower, the friction force cannot exceed a certain value.
The invention consists in that the surface of the pressure ring facing the rear side of the lip ring is adapted to the shape of the lip ring rear side and that the support part of the lip ring, which is shorter and somewhat more compact than the lip part, has a support surface facing the support ring,
whose axial distance from the axially normal apex surface of the rear side at the boundary of the support part facing the sealing lip is greater than its axial distance to the boundary of the support part facing away from the sealing lip, and that ultimately the support surfaces on the lip ring and on the support ring are inclined so differently, that the support surface of the support part and the surface of the support ring facing it only partially touch each other, so that a cavity is created on the side facing away from the sealing lip between these two surfaces.
The lip rings can be designed in such a way that the annular delimiting surface of the support part facing the support ring is conical. Likewise, the surface of the support ring facing the support part can be conical.
The surface of the lip ring facing the support ring and the surface of the support ring facing the lip ring can, seen in cross section, also extend in a curved manner, where only the contact of both surfaces has to take place so that the resultant of the inner sealing lips with increasing axial tightening The axially parallel force introduced shifts from the inside to the outside and the radial distance between the resultant is reduced in the case of external sealing lips.
According to another embodiment, the support ring can be limited on the side facing the support part of the lip ring by an axially normal plane. The axial distance of the support surface on the support ring from the axially normal apex surface of the lip ring rear side can also be greater at the boundary facing the sealing lip than the axial distance at the boundary facing away from the sealing lip.
A desired, relatively small increase in the contact pressure occurring between the sealing lip and the part to be sealed with the axial tightening is achieved when the support surface of the support part forms an angle of 400-50 with the axis normal surface, and when the surface of the support ring facing the support part with the axially normal surface encloses an angle of 20o-250.
When several lip rings are arranged one behind the other in the form of a group, the rigid ring lying between two lip rings can consist of a part which is designed so that it acts as a pressure ring for one and as a support ring for the other. The limb of the support part facing the lip part can be axially parallel; but it can also be parallel to the inner boundary of the lip part.
The manufacture and use of lip rings is not tied to a specific material. So can be used as an elastic material z. B. rubber, rubber with fabric insert or synthetic material such as nylon or the like are used, while the intermediate rings or pressure or support rings are preferably made of metal.
The object of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the Ausfüh approximately examples shown in the drawing.
1 shows a cross section through a lip ring with pressure and support ring and FIG. 2 shows a cross section through part of a stuffing box in which two groups of lip rings are arranged.
The lip ring consisting of a lip part 2 and a support part 3 has a rear side 9 which is round here, but can also be straight. The surface 12 of the pressure ring 1 facing the lip ring is adapted to the shape of the back of the lip ring. By pressing its back 17 against the surface 15 of the movable pipe 18 to be sealed, the sealing lip 2 has a sealing or wiping effect and is intended to prevent the passage of gaseous or liquid medium from the space 14 into the space 34. The support part 3 has a surface 4 that faces the support ring 5 and runs at an angle.
The axial distance of the surface 4 from the axially normal apex surface 13-13 through the lip ring rear side 9 at the boundary 6 of the support part 3 facing the sealing lip is a. The axial distance of the surface 4 on the boundary (7) of the support part 3 facing away from the sealing lip 2 is b.
The support ring 5 has a surface 8 facing the support part 3, which also runs obliquely. The axial distance from the axially normal tip surface 13-13 of the lip ring rear side 9 on the boundary 10 facing the sealing lip is c; the axial distance to the delimitation 11 of the support ring 5 remote from the sealing lip is d. At the arrangement of several lip rings one behind the other (Fig. 2) are between the lip rings 19, 19 'rigid rings 20, 20' are arranged.
The lip rings 19 form a group and are intended to prevent the passage of gaseous or liquid medium from the space 21 into the space 22, and the lip rings 19 ', which form a further group that is opposite to the first, are intended to prevent passage of gaseous or liquid medium the room 23 in the room 22 prevent. Medium leaking past the individual lip rings or each group is discharged in a known manner, not shown. In the fixed housing 24 there is a cylinder 25 which is movably guided between the surfaces 32 and 33 to allow centering union.
In its inner part, the cylinder 25 has a surface 26 adapted to the rear of the lip ring. The rigid intermediate ring 20 arranged between two lip rings 19 acts for a lip ring by means of its surface 27 as a support ring and by means of another surface adapted to the rear of the lip ring 28 for the other lip ring as a pressure ring. The cylinder 25 has an internal thread 30 at one end, into which an existing thread in a ring 29 engages. The surface 31 of the ring 29 facing the lip ring is designed correspondingly to the surface 27 of the intermediate rings. By tightening the ring 29, axial pressure is exerted on the lip rings, and the lips are pressed against the outer surface of the pipe 32 to be sealed.
This achieves a wiping or sealing effect. Here, as with previously known lips, an additional pressing of the lip can also take place through the working pressure of the machine. The lip rings 19 'forming a further group have the same features as the group formed from the lip rings 19. Identical parts have the same reference numbers, only provided with a prime.
The invention is based on the knowledge that through a certain shape of the lip ring support part, on which the axial pressure is exerted, and through a certain shape of the support ring, the characteristics between axial tightening and the resulting friction force can be suitably selected. This behavior is explained by means of FIGS. 3 and 4 on an individually arranged lip penring with an internal sealing lip. For a lip ring with an external sealing lip or if several lip rings are arranged one behind the other to form a group, the behavior is explained accordingly.
At the beginning of the axial tightening, the circular ring-shaped surface of the support ring touches the inclined surface of the lip ring support part normal to the axis on a circular line. This circular line of contact has the same diameter as the inner boundary of the support part (Fig. 3).
With increasing axial tightening, the contact circle becomes an annular contact surface, while a cavity remains between the support ring and the surface of the lip ring facing it on the side facing away from the sealing lip, i.e. lip ring and support ring do not touch in this part. Reaction forces are awakened by the force exerted on the contact surface in the axial direction.
The resultant of the axially parallel forces occurring in the pressure ring and the resultant of the axially parallel forces directed by means of the tightening form a torsional moment in relation to the cross-sectional area of the lip ring, which causes a deformation of the lip radially inward.
The sealing back of the lip is thus pressed against a surface to be sealed located in the lip ring. If the axial tightening is increased, the support part of the lip ring deforms further, and the circular ring-shaped contact surface between the support ring and the support part increases. The resultant of the axially parallel forces introduced into the lip ring shifts its line of action radially outwards.
The absolute amount and distance of the resultant, the initiated and the reaction force behavior triggered by it, is such that the torsional moment exerted on the lip increases up to a certain maximum value. This increases the deformation directed radially inwards and thus also the contact pressure between the lip ring back and the moving part to be sealed up to a certain maximum value.
This increase occurs less steeply than when the sealing lip is pressed against the part to be sealed by the pressure of the support ring alone. If you increase the introduced axially parallel force by tightening the proposed lip shape, the deformation of the compact lip ring part increases further. The contact area between the support ring and the support part increases.
The position of the axially parallel, guided, resulting force shifts even further radially outwards, and the torsional moment created with the axially parallel, resulting bearing force of the pressure ring becomes smaller, which results in a decreasing frictional force between the sealing lip and the sealing part, until finally the torsional moment reverses its direction of rotation by further axial tightening, which leads to the sealing lip lifting off from the part to be sealed (Fig. 4).
From the state from which the torsional moment is reduced, it does not matter whether the support ring now touches the surface of the support part facing it or whether there is still a smaller cavity between the two surfaces. This only influences the type of decrease in the torsional moment.
