Verfahren zur Herstellung eines mindestens teilweise aus ferromagnetischen Kristallen bestehenden ferromagnetischen Materials Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines mindestens teilweise aus ferro- magnetischen Kristallen bestehenden ferromagneti- scheu Materials, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, dass das Material mindestens teilweise aus ferromagneti- schen Kristallen der Formel Ba(4-a,-b-c) SraPbb C aeMeII (2-d-e-f) CO II;

Method for producing a ferromagnetic material consisting at least partially of ferromagnetic crystals The subject of the invention is a method for producing a ferromagnetic material consisting at least partially of ferromagnetic crystals, which is characterized in that the material is at least partially composed of ferromagnetic crystals Formula Ba (4-a, -bc) SraPbb C aeMeII (2-def) CO II;

# i- 2, the crystals belonging to the hexagonal crystal system and having a rhombohedral crystal structure, the elementary cell of which has a c-axis of about 113.1A and an a-axis of about 5.9 A, and the ferromagnetic crystals are formed by heating a finely divided mixture of substances which contains the oxides of the metals contained in the crystals, compounds which transform into these oxides when heated and / or compounds of these oxides with one another in the required weight ratio.
These compounds have valuable electromagnetic properties. For example, they show a saturation magnetization of the same order of magnitude as that of ferromagnetic ferrites with the crystal structure of the mineral spinel, the so-called spinel structure. Furthermore, like most of these ferrites, they have a high specific resistance. Many of these materials are suitable for use as materials for ferromagnetic bodies that are to be used at high frequencies, often up to 200 MHz and higher.
In the known ferromagnetic ferrites with a spinel structure, the initial permeability depends on the frequency; there is a frequency range in which the initial permeability decreases with increasing frequency. The decrease in the initial permeability begins at a lower frequency, the higher the initial permeability of the material at low frequency (see H. G. Beljers and J. L. Snoek, Philips' Technische Rundschau, 11, pages 317-326, 1949-1950).
With some of the materials according to the invention, however, the initial permeability is constant up to much higher frequencies than with ferromagnetic ferrites with a spinel structure, which have the same value for the initial permeability.
Since the use of ferromagnetic cores in a frequency range in which the initial permeability is not constant is generally associated with the occurrence of high electromagnetic losses, the materials according to the invention can be used as ferromagnetic bodies up to the above-mentioned, much higher frequencies, and in all cases where low electromagnetic losses are required.
In ferromagnetic materials with a hexagonal crystal structure, the crystal anisotropy is given as a first approximation by the expression FK = KI 'sing z9 (see R. Becker and W. Döring, Ferromagnetism, 1939, page 114).
If Ki is positive for a crystal (so-called positive crystal anisotropy), the hexagonal axis is the preferred direction of magnetization in this crystal. But it is AI. ' negative (hereinafter referred to as negative crystal anisotropy), this means that the spontaneous magnetization is directed perpendicular to the hexagonal axis and thus parallel to the base plane of the crystal.
In the latter case, the crystal has a so-called preferential plane of magnetization (the existence of a comparatively weak preferential magnetization for certain directions in the base plane is still possible, however). For some of the materials according to the invention, Ki is negative. In this case, the direction of the spontaneous magnetization in each crystal lies in the base plane and in this plane the direction of magnetization can be rotated much more easily than in any direction not lying in this plane.
The initial permeability of these materials has values high enough to be important for electrical engineering applications. This initial permeability is constant up to a much higher frequency than with ferromagnetic ferrites with a spinel structure, which have the same value of the initial permeability at a low frequency.
The materials according to the invention with positive crystal anisotropy offer new possibilities for the production of, for example, ferromagnetic cores with permanent magnetic properties and ferromagnetic bodies for use in microwaves.
The following experiment can be used, for example, to determine whether a particular case is a matter of crystals with a preferred direction of magnetization or crystals with a preferred plane of magnetization: A small amount, for example 25 mg, of the crystal material to be examined is mixed in the form of a finely ground powder with a few drops of a solution of an organic binder or adhesive in acetone and the mixture is spread out on a glass plate. This plate is placed between the poles of an electromagnet in such a way that the magnetic lines of force extend perpendicular to the surface of the plate.
By increasing the electrical direct current of the electromagnet, the magnetic field strength is increased so that the powder particles rotate in the field in such a way that either the preferred direction or the preferred plane of magnetization runs almost parallel to the direction of the magnetic force lines. With careful handling, agglomeration of the powder particles can be avoided. After the acetone has evaporated, the powder particles adhere to the glass surface in a magnetically oriented state. With the help of X-rays it can then be determined which orientation of the powder particles was created under the influence of the magnetic field.
This can be done, inter alia, by means of an X-ray diffractometer (for example a device as described in Philips' Technischen Rundschau, 16, pages 228-240, 1954-1955), in the case of a preferred direction parallel to the hexagonal c-axis im In comparison with an image of a non-oriented preparation, an increased occurrence of reflections on surfaces perpendicular to this c-axis (so-called 001 reflections) is observed.
In the case of a preferred plane perpendicular to the hexagonal c-axis, an increased occurrence of reflections on surfaces parallel to this c-axis (so-called hk0 reflections) is observed.
The crystal anisotropy constant K1 'depends on the composition and also for each material on the temperature. It has been found that for many of the new materials in question it is possible to specify a temperature below which the crystal anisotropy is negative and above which it is positive. The temperature of the turning point of the crystal anisotropy depends essentially on the content of divalent cobalt. The turning point is at room temperature when the material contains a certain amount of Co, which depends somewhat on the remaining small divalent metals, but is about% 3 of the total amount of small divalent ions.
If the small divalent ions consist of more than about% 3 of Co (expressed by d greater than or approximately equal to 0.6, the crystals of the materials show a preferential plane of magnetization at room temperature. If the small divalent ions are less than About% 3 is replaced by Co (expressed by d less than or approximately equal to 0.6), then the crystals of the materials have a preferred direction of magnetization at room temperature.
It should be clear that the choice of material depends on whether a positive or negative crystal anisotropy is desired within the working area.
It has been found that for materials that have a negative crystal anisotropy constant and thus a preferred plane of magnetization, the value of the initial permeability can be increased further if the ferric ions in the formula are partially replaced by trivalent Co ions ; but this is only possible up to g = 0.2 to 0.5. Even with materials which contain Fe as a divalent metal, relatively high values of the initial permeability are found, but these materials naturally have a low specific resistance, which results in eddy current losses.
The materials according to the invention are preferably produced by heating (sintering) a finely divided mixture of the oxides of the metals contained in the crystals, selected in the correct ratio. Of course, one or more of the composing metal oxides can be completely or partially replaced by compounds which convert into these metal oxides on heating, for example carbonates, oxalates and acetates. In addition, the composing metal oxides can be completely or partially replaced by one or more reaction products of at least two of the composing metal oxides,
for example by BaFe "0". In this production method, of the materials according to the invention, those containing no Sr, Pb or Ca are formed by far the easiest. If necessary, the finely divided starting material can first be pre-sintered, after which the reaction product is finely ground again and the powder thus obtained is sintered again; this machining cycle can be repeated once or several times if necessary.
Such a sintering process is known per se, for example for the production of ferromagnetic ferrites with a spinel structure (see, inter alia, JJ Went and EW Gorter, Philips' Tech nische Rundschau, 13, page 223, 1951-1952) . The sintering or final sintering temperature can be selected between approximately 1000 and approximately 1450 C, preferably between 1200 and 1350 C.
To facilitate sintering, sintering agents, for example silicates and fluorides, can be added. The magnetic cores consisting of the ferromagnetic materials described above can be achieved by sintering the starting mixture of metal oxides immediately in the desired form, or by finely grinding the reaction product of the presintering and, if necessary after adding a binder, bringing it into the desired shape and optionally re-sintered or post-hardened.
When sintering at a temperature of considerably more than 1200 C and / or when sintering in a relatively low-oxygen gas atmosphere, a mixed crystal material with a relatively high content of FeII can be produced, which reduces the specific resistance to values of less than 10 ohm-cm can be.
If this is not desired, because a magnetic core is to be used at high frequencies without disturbing eddy current losses, an excessive formation of ferrous ions must be avoided, or, if necessary, ferrous ions formed in too large quantities must subsequently be converted to ferrous ions in a known manner. Ions are oxidized, for example by post-heating in oxygen to a temperature between 1000 and 1250 C.
Special precautions should be taken when manufacturing lead-containing materials. Due to its volatility, some of the Pb0 escapes from the product during heating, so that it is necessary to provide a larger amount of lead in the starting mixture than corresponds to the ratio of metals in the material to be produced.
The electromagnetic losses are given here as usual by a loss factor tg d =, u "/ y '(see J. Smit and HPJ Wijn, Advances in Electronics, VI, 1954, page 69, formula 37). The quantity is the So-called real part of the initial permeability, which, like tg 8, is mentioned in numerical values in the examples below.
Example 1 A finely divided mixture of BaC03, CoC03 and Fe203 in a mutual ratio of 4 moles BaC03, 2 moles CoC03 and 18 moles Fe203, which corresponds to the desired compound Ba4Co2Fe36066, is mixed with ethyl alcohol for half an hour mixed in a ball mill. After drying, the mixture is preburnt for 15 hours at 1000 C in air, after which the reaction product is ground for one hour with ethyl alcohol in a ball mill.
After drying, a small amount of a solution of an organic binder is added to the product and part of the product obtained is pressed into a tablet, which is burned in oxygen at 1260 ° C. for one hour.
Tablets are produced in the same way, using finely divided mixtures of BaC03, Fe203 and CoC03 and Mg0 or CoC03 and Mg0 or Mg0 or
Ni0 or Zn0 starts out in a ratio of 4 mol BaC03, 18 mol Fe203 and 1 mol CoC03 and 1 mol Mg0 or 0.5 mol CoC03 and 1.5 mol Mg0 or 2 mol Mg0 or
2 mol Ni0 or 2 mol Zn0, which compositions correspond to the desired compounds Ba4CoIIMgFe "I36066; Ba4CoII6,5Mgl, 5FeIII36060; Ba4Mg2Fei736060; Ba4Ni2FerIi36066 or Ba4Zn2FeaI36066.
Finally, a finely divided mixture of BaCO 3, ZnO and Fe 2 O 3 in a ratio of 4 mol BaCO 3, 1.5 mol ZnO and 18.25 mol Fe 2 O 3 is assumed, which corresponds to the compound Ba4Zn1.5FeII6.5FeIII360'60 and is described above Way is mixed, preheated, ground and pressed into a tablet, which is sintered for 1 hour at 1300 C in technical nitrogen.
An examination with X-rays shows that the reaction products consist almost entirely of crystals with the desired rhombohedral structure. The saturation magnetization of these materials is always greater than 2000 Gauss. Further, in the above-mentioned manner, the sign of the crystal anisotropy of the crystals at room temperature is determined by examination with X-rays. The results are shown in Table No. 1, in which, as well as in the following tables, under the heading Main Ingredient, formulas are given which are derived from the examination with X-rays.
