Description

  A titre d'exemple particulier, des essais ont  montré que l'on obtenait des résultats     particulière-          ment    intéressants avec un matériau fabriqué selon  ce. procédé et dont la composition exacte est la sui  vante  - granulé de liège, d'une granulométrie de 2 à 4       mm    :     20        %        en        poids    ;  -     ciment        portland:        53        %        en        poids    ;

    -     eau        totale:        27        %        en        poids.

  Process for the manufacture of a material based on cork and cement and material obtained by this process Cork being the natural material having the optimum sound and thermal insulation characteristics, it is easy to see the advantage that there may be in 'use in construction.

  As, moreover, this material does not have a characteristic of mechanical resistance allowing it to be used alone in construction, it is therefore necessary to add a mechanically resistant support to it.

  It is in this spirit that it has already been proposed to use agglomerates of cork and cement, these agglomerates proposed previously not having however made it possible to obtain useful practical results.

  The object of the present invention is a process the aim of which is to make it possible to manufacture a construction material based on cork and cement at a low cost, having very good sound and thermal insulation characteristics and mechanical resistance, which - without being very large - is however sufficient for many uses, for example for filling walls or partitions.

  The method according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises the sequence of the following operations a) mixing, for a period of the order of 5 to 10 minutes, from - 15 to 25% by weight of cork granule, and - approximately 5 to 10% by weight of water,

          this water being added in such an amount that the cork granule just becomes saturated with water; b) Addition of 40 to 70% by weight of cement and an additional amount of 10 to 25 <RTI

   ID = "0001.0046">% by weight of water, then, second mixing to obtain total homogeneity of the mixture; c) Pouring the mixture into molds of shapes corresponding to the desired prefabricated products; d) Demoulding and stabilization of the demolded product for a period of around 30 hours; e) Drying in the open air under cover for a period of around 20 days.

  As a specific example, tests have shown that particularly interesting results are obtained with a material manufactured according to this. process and the exact composition of which is the following - cork granule, with a particle size of 2 to 4 mm: 20% by weight; - Portland cement: 53% by weight;

    - total water: 27% by weight.

  A subject of the present invention is also the material obtained by the process defined above.
