Method and device for the production of castings The present invention relates to a method and a device for the production of castings, eg. B. chill casting, and in particular a Ver drive and a corresponding device to liquid metal, z. B. steel to convey under pressure in a form.
One purpose of the invention is to create a method and an apparatus for casting, where the metal to be cast is passed into the mold without coming into contact with an oxidizing atmosphere. The molten metal in a container can therefore be passed through a pouring pipe and then into the mold without coming into contact with air.
It must be ensured that in the pressure and vacuum chambers that are connected to the mold cavity, there is a uniform sub-atmospheric pressure, before and during a degassing process and up to the point in time at which an overpressure is generated in the pressure chamber to convey the molten metal into the mold cavity.
The inventive method, in which metal against the action of gravity from a container, which is located in a practically airtight chamber, is moved through a tube in the mold cavity, which is outside the chamber, one end of the tube with the Metal is in connection, is characterized by the following steps: Establishing a connection between the mold cavity and the chamber that is independent of the pipe, evacuating the mold cavity and the chamber independently of the direct connection to the same sub-atmospheric pressure and generating an overpressure in the Chamber until the cavity is filled.
The inventive device for implementing this method is characterized by a container for the molten metal in a practically airtight pressure chamber, a form outside the chamber that sits a cavity, a pouring pipe that connects the cavity and the container, one above the mold arranged and with part of the same in contact vacuum chamber which is in communication with the cavity, conduit means which are independent of the tube and directly connect the two chambers, a vacuum source and a pressure source and additional conduit means,
in order to temporarily establish a connection between the vacuum source and the individual chambers that is independent of the first-mentioned line means and to generate a negative pressure in these and to establish a connection between the pressure source and the pressure chamber to convey the metal into the cavity.
In the drawing, an example of embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown in vertical section.
The device for pouring chill molds under pressure has a housing 2 with a cover 4, which is detachably attached to this by bolts 6 and delimits a chamber 8, which has a molten metal 12, z. B. steel, filled ladle accommodates.
A tubular pouring spout 14 made of suitable refractory lining material extends downward through an opening 16 in the lid 4 and ends near the bottom of the pan. The tube 14 has at the upper end a flange 17 which is fitted into an opening in the plate 18 and together with this forms a flat surface on which the mold 20 can be placed. The flat and smooth surface of the plate allows a lateral displacement of the mold 20 on the same.
The plate 18 can be made of copper, graphite or other material and barely laid a bedded pipes (not shown) contain, which allow a circulation of liquid in the plate for the purpose of cooling the same.
The upper end of the mold 20 is closed by a head 21 which has a cover 22 with a dome-shaped structure 24 and is fastened to the mold 20 by means of screws 26. A conical or triangular rib 27 extends in the center of the structure 24 in the interior of the same. In the structure 24 a plurality of openings 28 for the exit of gases is seen before.
The head 21 is provided with a sand lining 30. The upper end of the mold has a flange 31 on which a heat-resistant sealing ring 32 is made of rubber. The ring has an approximately T-shaped cross section, one leg engaging a circumferential groove of a vacuum bell jar 34. A flexible, non-compressible pipe 36 connects the interior of the vacuum bell jar 34 to a vacuum source 48.
The sealed chamber 8 is via an inlet pipe 38 and a pipe 40 not only with a vacuum source 48, but also with a source of compressed gaseous medium in Ver connection, such as. B. air or non-oxidizing gas. A tube 44, which is connected to the tube 40 via a valve 42, leads to the compressed air source, which is gebil det with example by a pump, not shown. The tube 48 is connected on the one hand to the vacuum source, which can be formed by a vacuum pump, not shown. A tube 49 connects the bell jar 34 with the sealed chamber 8 and is equipped with a valve 51 which allows the connection to be broken.
This tube ensures that absolutely identical pressure conditions are established within the vacuum bell jar and the sealed chamber when the valve 51 is open.
Such a pressure equalization is an absolute prerequisite because it prevents the heat of the molten metal from increasing the pressure in the chamber 2 above that in the bell 34, which would result in a premature flow of the molten metal into the mold before the molten metal is degassed. When the molten metal, for example steel, is degassed in the casting ladle 10, the connection between the chamber 8 and the bell 34 compensates for the negative pressure in this space and prevents premature outflow of the metal into the mold, as well as the passage from Air through the mold into the molten metal.
Such a passage would prevent the steel from degassing and promote the formation of air bubbles in it, which could result in rejects. Both of the processes described must be avoided in order to make the casting process successful.
An electrical conductor 52 extends through the vacuum bell 34 and through the head 21 and ends in an electrode 50, which makes contact with the molten metal in the structure 24 and closes a circuit in order to supply compressed air to the closed chamber 8 to interrupt.
In operation, the molten, metal-filled pouring ladle is arranged in the chamber 8, after which the cover 4 with the pouring pipe 14 is fastened to the upper part of the chamber by means of the screw 6. The flat bottom of the mold 20 is then arranged on the flat plate 18 and the top of the flange 17 in such a way that the sprue 54 of the mold is in the same alignment with the opening 56 of the tube 14. The bell jar 34 is then placed over the upper part of the mold, the head 21 being attached to the mold for the time being. The valve 42 is closed while the valves 46 and 51 are open.
Under these conditions, the bell jar and the chamber 8 are connected to the vacuum source, which evacuates the chamber 8, bell jar 34 and the interior of the mold 20. When a sufficient vacuum is reached, the valves 46 and 51 are closed in order to prevent the further suction of air from the chamber 8, while on the other hand sub-atmospheric pressure is maintained inside the bell 34 and the mold 20.
Thereafter, the valve 42 is opened to allow the entry of gas under pressure into the sealed chamber, whereby metal is drawn up through the tube 14 into the mold 20.
The pressurized gas supplied to the chamber 8 through the inlet pipe 38 may be air or a non-oxidizing gas. In any case, the molten metal entering the mold is not in contact with the atmospheric air. This process can either be carried out with steel that has previously been degassed in the ladle, or with a normal steel charge that has not yet been subjected to a vacuum treatment. In the latter case, the evacuation of the mold and the chamber causes degassing of the molten metal in the ladle.
When the mold is filled by the molten metal and the metal rises in the structure 24, this comes into contact with the electrode 50 and thus closes the electrical circuit for actuating a mechanism, not shown, which moves the mold laterally. As a result of this, the sprue opening is brought out of alignment with the bore 56 and closed either by the flange 17 or the plate 18. The electrical circuit also serves to supply compressed gas to the chamber 8 after the mold has been moved. Now the pressure in the chamber can be adjusted to atmospheric pressure.
It is clear that the method described can also be used for the production of other castings which are normally produced in multipart forms, consisting of an upper part and a lower part or of segments. When making such castings, the bell 34 surrounds the entire mold and seals it along the bottom thereof, for example together with the plate 18 or the cover part, depending on the design of the sprue and its shut-off means.
