<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Electric drive The present invention relates to an electric drive with an endless transmission means for transmitting power from the drive to the machine to be driven.
The invention is characterized in that the drive members are mounted on a pivotable rocker and the strands of the transmission means are arranged in such a way that the tensile forces to be transmitted in the same generate a first torque on the rocker and further means are provided in connection with the rocker for Generation of a counter torque of the same magnitude as the first torque, that an electrical switch is also provided, which is connected to the rocker, with an electrical circuit being routed via the switch which controls the electrical drive in such a way that when the torque is increased above the nominal torque and the resulting tilting of the rocker switches the drive off.
An exemplary embodiment is shown in the drawing.
A machine 1 is driven by an electric motor 5 via a V-belt 16, a gear 4, a chain 3 and a sprocket 2. The transmission 4 and the electric motor 5 are mounted on a rocker 9. For the purpose of tensioning the V-belt 16, the electric motor 5 is fastened on a motor rocker 6, which can be pivoted about an axis 7 on the rocker 9. The necessary belt tension is set by means of an adjusting screw 8.
The rocker 9 can be pivoted about an axis 10 in a bearing 17 fastened on the machine 1. A spring housing 14 is attached to the rocker 9 so as to be displaceable in the direction of arrow 18. A compression spring 13 is mounted in the spring housing 14, the pressure of which can be regulated by means of an adjusting screw 15.
The rocker 9 is provided with an adjusting screw 12 which acts on a limit switch 11 fastened on the machine 1.
The mode of operation of the present device is as follows: the torque to be overcome in the machine 1, which corresponds to the nominal torque of the motor 5, generates a tensile force in the chain strand 3a. This tensile force corresponds to a reaction force P. The gear 4 is arranged on the rocker 9 in such a way that the force P does not pass through the center of rotation of the rocker 9, so that a torque is generated.
The spring 13 also presses on the rocker 9 with a spring force F. The weight G of the motor 5 acts on the opposite side of the rocker. The torques corresponding to these forces F and G form a counter-torque to the torque of the drive by the force P. The rocker 9 should be kept in equilibrium at the nominal torque, i.e. H. the counter-torque is to be kept the same as the torque by the force P. The spring force F is adjusted according to the weight G and the force P by means of the screw 15 in such a way that the rocker 9 is in equilibrium in an approximately horizontal position. By shifting the housing 14, the torque from the spring force F can also be changed.
The limit switch 11 is connected to a circuit which controls the switching on and off of the drive motor 5. The limit switch 11 closes this control circuit when it is pressed in, so that the drive motor 5 is switched on. In the equilibrium position of the rocker 9, the limit switch is depressed.
If the drive torque in the machine is increased by any circumstances beyond the nominal torque, e.g. B. by enlarged
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Friction, locking of wheels or the like, the tensile force in the chain strand 3a also increases. The increased force P causes an increased torque, so that the rocker 9 is brought out of equilibrium and pivots in a clockwise direction. As a result, the limit switch 11 is moved out of its depressed position. The limit switch 11 then interrupts the motor circuit, whereby the motor switches off and is secured against overload.
The present invention can be used, for example, to drive drum belts in centrifugal wheel cleaning machines. The drum belts consist of metal links, between which castings can clamp and thereby block the belt drive. In such a case, the drive motor should be switched off to avoid damage to the machine and the motor.
A major advantage of the invention can be seen in the fact that it is achieved by simple means.
Instead of the chain drive 3, a belt drive could also be used.
The electric drive could also consist only of an electric motor, which is placed in place of the gear 4, so that the chain - or belt tension - is also outside the axis of rotation and generates a tilting moment on the rocker. The force corresponding to the weight G is compensated in this case by a tension spring between the machine 1 and the rocker 9 or by increasing the spring force F so that the counter torque also corresponds to the magnitude of the torque of the drive.
