Les positions que peut occuper le tiroir 38 sont de trois catégories, moyenne, haute et basse, de telle façon que: - En position moyenne (fig. 1): il isole la chambre périphérique moyenne 41 ainsi que la chambre phériphérique supérieure 40 et il met en communi cation la chambre périphérique inférieure 42 avec la chambre axiale 43; - En position haute (fig. 2) : il met en communication la chambre périphérique supérieure 40 avec le canal 49 par l'intermédiaire de la saignée supérieure 47, il isole la chambre périphérique moyenne 41 et il met en communication la chambre périphé rique inférieure 42 avec la chambre axiale 43;
The subject of the invention is a suspension for vehicles, more particularly for road vehicles, is isochronous autonomous hydropneumatic suspension with attitude correction. This suspension is of the hydropneumatic, isochronous, level-corrected type, and comprises two compression chambers, one dynamic and the other static, interconnected by a calibrated orifice and filled with a given mass of a fluid. compressible, a shock absorber and a level detector.
We know that the isochronism of the suspension is one of the conditions necessary to ensure the comfort of a vehicle and that, to achieve an isochronous suspension of the pneumatic type, it is necessary that the volume of the compressible fluid, the compressibility of which ensures the elasticity of the suspension, is constant. It is therefore necessary, to ensure this isochronism, to vary the mass of the compressible fluid in order to keep this volume constant whatever the load of the vehicle.
There are several devices which achieve this isochronism by re-establishing the desired volume of the compressible fluid when the latter has been modified by a variation in load. At the same time, these devices ensure the attitude correction, that is to say bring the level of the vehicle to a constant value, whatever the load of the vehicle. These devices use hydraulic means to inject or to let escape the mass of compressible fluid necessary to ensure this correction.
They include at least two pneumatic chambers, one dynamic, forming a suspension cushion, the other static, a reservoir of compressible fluid, interconnected by a calibrated orifice making it possible to pass part of the compressible fluid from the static chamber into the chamber. dynamic chamber, and vice versa, while preventing, at least partially, the pressure variations, prevailing in the dynamic chamber during the movement of the vehicle, from propagating into the static chamber.
The transfer of the compressible fluid from one chamber to another is provided by an incompressible fluid forming a piston, this incompressible fluid itself being supplied by a pump whose actuation is controlled, either manually or automatically, depending on the attitude of the vehicle.
However, among the known devices, some incorporate the hydraulic damper, but the leveling pump is separate. In some there is a built-in attitude detector, in others this detector is separate and the attitude correction is not automatic.
The known devices therefore have the drawback of not constituting an independent suspension, grouping together all the necessary components: suspension proper, shock absorber, pump and attitude detector. The object of the invention is to group together all these components and to make it possible to produce a fully autonomous isochronous suspension with trim correction. On the other hand, thanks to the judicious arrangement of the members, it is possible to achieve a suspension of minimum volume and height, without resorting to the use of elastic membranes.
The suspension which is the subject of the invention is characterized by the fact that these two chambers, this damper and this attitude detector are grouped inside a self-contained suspension bottle and that this bottle also comprises a incompressible fluid reservoir and a switching device controlled by the attitude detector so as to operate the shock absorber as an attitude correction pump responsible for delivering the incompressible fluid from the reservoir to the static chamber, under the effect relative oscillations of the unsprung part with respect to the suspended part. The attached drawing illustrates an embodiment of the suspension according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a section passing through the axis of the suspension.
Fig. 2 shows a particular position of a member of the assembly shown in FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 shows another particular position of this same organ.
A female part 1 (FIG. 1) fixed to the chassis, not shown, of the vehicle cooperates with a male part 2 which is fixed to the wheel, also not shown. The female part 1 has the shape of a cylindrical chamber 3 located above a cylinder 4. These two elements are surrounded by two coats 5 and 6 which are coaxial with this cylinder and which leave an annular space between them. This space is distributed, as will be seen below, into two annular chambers, one upper 7a, the other lower 7b; it is closed, at the top, by a bottom 8, integral with the bottom of the chamber 3, at the bottom by a crown 9 provided with an annular opening or 10.
The male part 2 has the shape of a hollow piston 11 having two different diameters, the largest being at its base and forming a cylindrical chamber 12. A cylindrical mantle 13, coaxial with the piston 11, surrounds the latter, and carries to its upper end a crown 14. The female part 1 and the male part 2 are intended to cooperate with each other so that the piston 11 slides in the cylinder 4, forming a central sliding system and the mantle 13 slides in the annular opening 10, forming a peripheral sliding system, the crown 14 constituting a movable wall separating the annular chambers 7a and 7b.
The cylindrical chamber 3 is completely filled with a compressible fluid, for example air. The cylindrical chamber 12 is partially filled with an incompressible fluid, for example oil, the free surface of which rises to a level corresponding to the load of the vehicle. The volume located above the level defines a chamber 16 which is filled with a compressible fluid identical to the first. The chambers 3 and 16 communicate with each other by a channel 17 formed in an auxiliary piston 18 capable of sliding in an auxiliary cylinder 19 provided for this purpose in the head of the hollow piston 11.
This channel 17 is provided with a calibrated orifice 20, so that the chamber 3 constitutes the dynamic chamber of the suspension and that the chamber 16 constitutes the static chamber, the latter forming with the incompressible fluid contained in the chamber 12 an accumulator hydraulic. The space between the piston 11 and the sleeve 13 forms a reservoir 21 filled with incompressible fluid; a channel 22 arranged for example in the wall of the cylindrical chamber 3 connects this space with the outside, so that the incompressible fluid is found, in this reservoir 21, at a pressure equal to atmospheric pressure.
The annular chambers 7a and 7b constitute, as will be seen, both a telescopic hydraulic damper and a double-acting as siette correction pump. For this, channels such as 23 'and 24 in number at least equal to two are provided in the ring 14 so as to put these two chambers in communication. These channels are provided with calibrated ori fices 25, respectively 26, and are furthermore equipped with calibrated valves 27, respectively 28, operating in the opposite direction. For example, the valve 27 is intended to prevent the flow of incompressible fluid from the upper annular chamber 7a to the lower chamber 7b, while the valve 28 is intended to prevent the flow in the reverse direction.
The channels allowing passage from the lower chamber 7b to the upper chamber 7a are furthermore provided with a valve 29 capable of preventing any flow. This valve, capable of closing off the channel 23, is preferably hydraulically controlled. It consists, for example, of a piston 30 controlled by means of a control pipe 31, and an elastic member such as a spring 32. The latter is provided to hold this piston, in the absence of pressure in this pipe. control, in the non-blocking position of the channel 23. At least one compensation channel, such as 33, is also provided so as to place the upper annular chamber 7a in communication with the bottom of the reservoir 21.
Each of these compensation channels is provided with a calibrated orifice 34, the passage section of which is such that the pressure drop across all of the compensation channels is of the same order of magnitude as the pressure drop across the 'set of channels such as 24 leading from chamber 7a to chamber 7b. In addition, a branch 35 is provided so as to communicate the top of the annular chamber 7b with the chamber 12 by means of a switching member which will be described later and which is disposed at the bottom of this chamber 12. All these pipes, control pipe 31, compensation channel 33 and bypass 35, are provided in the mantle 13 of the male part 2. A pipe 36 further connects the bottom of the tank 21 with this switching member.
The switching member is constituted by a hydraulic distributor whose body 37 is integral with the bottom of the cylindrical chamber 12 and whose slide 38 is integral, by means of a rod 39, with the auxiliary piston 18 disposed in the head of the hollow piston 11. This body 37 comprises three peripheral chambers, an upper 40, an average 41, a lower 42, and an axial chamber 43.
The axial chamber 43 is in communication with the pipe 36 via a calibrated orifice 44; the lower peripheral chamber 42 is in communication with the control pipe 31 via a calibrated orifice 45; the middle peripheral chamber 41 is in communication with the bypass 35; the upper peripheral chamber 40 is in communication with the pipe 36 by means of a bypass 46. The drawer 38 has two annular grooves, one upper 47, the other lower 48 without communication. with each other.
The upper groove 47 is in communication, by a channel such as 49, with the cylindrical chamber 12, partially filled with incompressible fluid, means being provided to prevent this channel 49 from opening into the static chamber 16 if the free surface 15 of this incompressible fluid comes down to the vicinity of the bottom of the chamber 12. In the example described, these means consist of a bell such as 50 fixed in a sealed manner to the bottom of the rod 39 and surrounding the body 37 of the distributor so that the channel 49 communicates with the bottom of the chamber 12 through the annular opening between this body 37 and the edge 51 of this bell 50.
The positions that the drawer 38 can occupy are of three categories, medium, high and low, so that: - In the medium position (fig. 1): it isolates the medium peripheral chamber 41 as well as the upper peripheral chamber 40 and it puts the lower peripheral chamber 42 in communication with the axial chamber 43; - In the high position (fig. 2): it places the upper peripheral chamber 40 in communication with the channel 49 by means of the upper groove 47, it isolates the middle peripheral chamber 41 and it places the lower peripheral chamber in communication. 42 with the axial chamber 43;
- In the low position (fig. 3): it isolates the upper peripheral chamber 40, it places the lower 42 and middle 41 peripheral chambers in communication with each other via the lower groove 48 and with the channel 49 via the intermediate of the upper groove 47 and it isolates the axial chamber 43.
The auxiliary piston 18 is equipped with an anti-sagging device consisting of a valve 52 capable of closing off the orifice of the calibrated channel 20. This valve 52 is held in the non-blocking position by an elastic member, for example a spring. 53.
The auxiliary piston 18 is held in position under the effect of two elastic members, such as the springs 54 and 55, bearing the first on the bottom of the dynamic chamber 3, and the other on the hollow piston 11, by the 'Intermediate of a perforated bearing flange such as 56. These elastic members exert antagonistic forces on the auxiliary piston 18 and impose on it a relative position which depends on the position of the piston 11 with respect to the cylinder 4.
The seal between the female part 1 and the male part 2 is ensured in a known manner, for example by seals such as 57, 58 and 59. The seal between the cylinder 4 and the piston 11 of the central sliding system is reinforced by an oil seal formed by a circular groove 60 formed in the wall of the cylinder 4 and which is in communication by a flexible pipe 61 with the bottom of the cylindrical chamber 12. The oil contained in the groove 60 is therefore subjected to a pressure equal to that which prevails in the static chamber 16 and a valve such as 62 is provided to prevent the return of the oil from the groove 60 to the cylindrical chamber 12.
The oil seal formed by this groove 60 is located, relative to the seal 57, on the side of the dynamic chamber 3, so that the seeps of oil from the groove 60 towards the reservoir 21 are limited.
The operation of the suspension which has just been described is as follows.
The average vehicle level being reached and the latter being assumed to be stationary, the parts constituting the suspension have the positions shown in FIG. 1. Under these conditions, the spool 38 of the distributor places the control line 31 of the hydraulic valve 29 in communication with the reservoir 21, which is at atmospheric pressure thanks to the channel 22; so that this valve is in the rest position and leaves the channel 32 free. This same slide 38 closes the bypass 35, so that the annular chambers 7a and 7b communicate with each other and the upper annular chamber 7a with the reservoir 21: the pressure of the oil in the annular chambers 7a and 7b is therefore equal to atmospheric pressure.
When the vehicle is running, the irregularities of the road cause relative oscillations of the female 1 and male 2 parts, oscillations which are absorbed by the dynamic chamber 3 and damped on the one hand pneumatically by rolling the flowing com pressible fluid. partially through the calibrated orifice 20 and on the other hand by the hydraulic telescopic shock absorber which then constitutes the peripheral sliding system.
The calibrated orifice 20 is dimensioned so as to practically isolate, in dynamic regime (apart from pneumatic damping), the static chamber 16 and the dynamic chamber 3, so that the natural period of the oscillations is practically determined only by the volume of the latter. As the sections of the upper and lower annular chambers 7a and 7b are different, the oscillations of the suspension cause not only an exchange of oil between these chambers, but between the upper chamber 7a and the reservoir 21.
The orifices 25, 26 and 34 are calibrated so that these two exchanges are of the same order of magnitude, the presence of the calibrated valves 27 and 28 making it possible to create an asymmetry in the damping thanks to the different section of the calibrated orifices 25 and 26 On the other hand, the calibrated orifices 44 and 45 are intended to keep the distributor in the middle position so that, during rapid oscillations of the suspension, the spool 38 follows in frequency and in amplitude the movements of the piston 11, and does not intervene in the correction system.
In the event of an increase in the load of the vehicle, the latter being stationary, the piston 11 sinks into the cylinder 4 and the attitude becomes too low. The anti-sag valve closes and isolates the static and dynamic chambers from each other. It will only reopen when the pressures in the two chambers are equal and from that moment there will be no compressible fluid from the static chamber into the dynamic chamber through the calibrated orifice 20 under the effect of the correction system d 'plate, and this until the restoration of the average plate. The auxiliary piston 18, under the effect of the springs 54 and 55, performs a movement which, with respect to this cylinder 4 is equal to a fraction of that of the piston 11.
In other words, the auxiliary piston 18 descends, relative to the piston 11, by an amount equal to this displacement. The same is true of the drawer 38 moved by the rod 39, so that this drawer occupies its low position (fig. 3). The distributor therefore places the cylindrical chamber 12 in communication on the one hand with the control line 31 of the valve 29, and on the other hand, via the bypass 35, with the lower annular chamber 7b. The valve 29 is placed in the working position and prevents any flow in the direction of the lower annular chamber 7b towards the upper annular chamber 7a.
As a result, the peripheral sliding system functions as a double-acting pump during the oscillations resulting from the running of the vehicle. Indeed, a subsequent depression of the male part 2 decreases the volume of the annular chamber 7a and increases, but in a smaller proportion given the difference in sections, that of the chamber 7b. The part of the incompressible fluid which, discharged from the chamber 7a, cannot find a place in the chamber 7b, is discharged, in part into the cylindrical chamber 12 by the bypass 35 and the distributor and the complement in the reservoir 21 by the channel compensation 33.
In the expansion phase, the valve 28 closes the channel 23, so that the annular chamber 7a is supplied with incompressible fluid by drawing from the reservoir 21 while the chamber 12 fills progressively with incompressible fluid and thus achieves restoring the level as described above. This phenomenon continues until the piston 11 has returned to its middle position, thus driving the spool 38 into the middle position. The role of the anti-sag device is to prevent excessive static sag when loading the vehicle.
When, with the vehicle stationary, the attitude becomes too high as a result of a reduction in the load, the piston 11 descends, causing the distributor 38 to its high position (FIG. 2). The cylindrical chamber 12 is then in communication, via the bypass 46 and the pipe 36, with the reservoir 21: the compressible fluid escapes from this chamber 12 towards the reservoir and part of the compressible fluid flows from the dynamic chamber 3 in the static chamber 16, which has the effect of restoring the average attitude. The control line 31 of the valve 29 is also in communication with the reservoir 21 and the latter is in its rest position.
So channel 23 is open: the peripheral sliding system functions as a telescopic hydraulic shock absorber. It can therefore be seen that the arrangement adopted makes it possible to produce an independent suspension bottle, which simultaneously ensures isochronism, trim correction and damping, the auxiliary piston 18 acting as a trim detector.
