Device for guiding and centering, in an automatic lathe, of the working bar The present invention relates to a device for guiding and centering, in an automatic lathe, of the working bar, comprising an axially split barrel, constituting jaws intended to act on said bar, which passes through said barrel, and a tubular frame in which said barrel is slidably engaged, this frame having a seat with which the split part of said barrel cooperates.
In known guiding and centering devices of the aforementioned type, the active inner face of the jaws, cooperating with the bar to be guided and centered, is concave, of cylindrical shape, so as to match the shape of the bar. The contact surfaces between the jaws and the bar are such that heating frequently occurs leading to seizing. The slots in the AC also risk, when passing bars made of stainless or anticorrodal material, or even light alloy, of producing seizing.
The aim of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks.
The device according to the invention is characterized by the fact that the central passage of the barrel has, over at least part of the split zone of the latter, a polygonal cross section, each face of which is formed by the interior face, which is substantially flat, of one of said jaws, the whole in such a way that the contact between said barrel and the bar which passes through it is substantially linear and follows the generatrices of the bar.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention and of variants.
Fig. 1 is an axial section of a guide and centering device.
Fig. 2 is an axial section of a detail. Fig. 3 is an end view of this detail.
Fig. 4 is an end view of a detail of a variant, on a greatly enlarged scale, and FIGS. 5-7 are end views of three variants.
The device shown comprises a tubular frame 1 intended to be fixed on the frame of an automatic lathe (bar turning machine) not shown, and in which is engaged, in a sliding manner, a barrel 2. This barrel is split in 3 on a part of its length, so as to form jaws 2a for clamping a bar, also not shown, introduced into this barrel and which must be machined by the automatic lathe. A screw 4 taking in the mount 1 penetrates into a longitudinal groove 5 of the barrel 2 to prevent it from turning on itself.
This barrel carries, screwed on its posterior end, a clamping chicken resting on the posterior end of the frame 1 and which makes it possible to exert on the barrel an axial traction applied as to a frustoconical bearing surface 7 only before feel the jaws 2 against a frustoconical seat 8 presented by the front end of the frame 1. The action of these surfaces 7 and 8 on each other, under the effect of the traction exerted on the barrel 2 by the clamping chicken 6, produces the clamping of the jaws on the bar crossing the barrel. The tightening must be carried out in such a way that the bar is kept frictionally, that is to say that it can just turn and slide in the barrel without the risk of inadvertently moving.
It should be noted that the jaws 2a are lined internally by a sleeve 9, welded to them, and which is split. axially at 10 over its entire length; this sleeve 9 is made of a material harder than that of the barrel 2. The central passage of the barrel 2, in line with the sleeve 9, has a polygonal cross section, each face of which is constituted by the internal, flat face, designated by 11 , of a segment of the sleeve 9. The contact between the sleeve 9 and the bar which passes through the barrel 2 is thus linear and follows the generators of the bar.
However, as shown in fig. 4, a very small longitudinal cylindrical recess, designated by 12, the depth of which is of the order of a few microns, can be made on each face 11 of the sleeve segments 9, in order to provide a touch surface. Thus, the contact with the bar, designated by 13 in FIG. 4, is theoretically well linear, but practically has a very small touch surface, which ensures better lubrication and prevents any seizing.
In the variants of FIGS. 5 to 7, the active part of the guide and centering barrel has an inner section, respectively octagonal, square and triangular. For this purpose, the jaws, signed by 14 in FIG. 5, 15 in fig. 6 and 16 in fig. 7, are respectively eight, four and three. Their interior faces are flat with, possibly, a very small cylindrical recess similar to the cylindrical recess of FIG. 4.
