Anilin, a- und ss-Naphthyl-amin,
4-Amino-diphenyle,
2-, 3- und 4-Aminodiphenyläther,
4-Amino-diphenylsulfide,
3-Amino-diphenylsulfone,
Process for the preparation of new aminobenzoic acid derivatives
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of new derivatives of aminobenzoic acids.
It has surprisingly been found that N-sulfonylated aminobenzoic acid aryl amides of the formula
EMI1.1
wherein Ar is a phenyl, naphthyl, diphenylyl, phenoxyphenyl, phenylmercaptophenyl, phenylsulfinylphenyl, phenylsulfonylphenyl, benzylphenyl or benzoylphenyl radical, which radicals can optionally be substituted as indicated below, R, an optionally halogenated, aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R2 and R3 radical Hydrogen or aliphatic or araliphatic hydrocarbon radicals, and R4 is hydrogen or 1-4 nonionic substituents, in particular chlorine atoms, at least one chlorine atom must be present as a substituent in at least one aromatic nucleus and further nonionic substituents, in particular nitro groups, may optionally be present, a excellent insecticidal effectiveness,
in particular against keratin-eating insects and their stages of development such as moth larvae, fur and carpet beetle larvae. The derivatives of anthranilic acid falling under the formula defined above are of particular interest with regard to ease of preparation and good effectiveness; but also the corresponding derivatives of m-aminobenzoic acid and p-aminobenzoic acid are extremely effective.
The process according to the invention for the preparation of the compounds defined above is characterized in that a compound of the formula
EMI1.2
which has no chlorine atoms as substituents on aromatic nuclei, treated with chlorine.
If desired, any hydrogen atoms R2 and / or R3 in the reaction products obtained by the aforementioned production process can then be replaced by hydrocarbon radicals or substituted hydrocarbon radicals by either converting the reaction products in the presence of acid-binding agents or, after conversion into their mono- or dialkali compounds, with reactive esters of optionally non-ionogens Aliphatic or araliphatic alcohols containing substituents.
Starting materials of the formula II can be obtained by reacting an aminobenzoic acid arylamide of the formula
EMI1.3
with a reactive, functional derivative, in particular a halide, a sulfonic acid of the formula R-SO2-OH IV, the two reaction components not containing any chlorine atoms as substituents of aromatic nuclei.
In addition, the starting materials of the formula II can be converted into a sulfonamidobenzoic acid of the formula by reacting a reactive, functional derivative, in particular a halide
EMI2.1
with an amine of the formula
EMI2.2
in the presence of an acid-binding agent, the two reaction components containing no chlorine atoms as substituents of aromatic nuclei.
Compounds of formula III are, for. B. the defined aryl amides of anthranilic acid, 3-amino-benzoic acid and 4-amino-benzoic acid.
In these amides, the amine component can be embodied, for example, by the following amines of the formula VI:
Aniline, a- and ss-naphthyl-amine,
4-amino-diphenyls,
2-, 3- and 4-aminodiphenyl ethers,
4-amino-diphenyl sulfide,
3-amino-diphenylsulfones,
4-Amino-diphenylsulfones and
3-Amino-benzophenone and the
N-methyl, N-ethyl, N-isopropyl and N-benzyl derivatives of all of these primary arylamines.
Reactive, functional derivatives of sulfonic acids of the formula IV include, for example, methanesulfonyl chloride, chloromethane, 12ithane, α- and β-chloroethane, butane, dodecane, ethylene and 2-propylene-1-sulfochloride.
In the following example, the parts mean parts by weight; these are related to parts of volume as g to cms. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
example
The starting material can be prepared as follows: a) 2-methanesulfonamido-benzoic acid.
137 parts of anthranilic acid are suspended in 500 parts of water and 100 parts by volume of concentrated sodium hydroxide solution are added. The resulting solution is cooled to 10, and at a temperature between 10-15 and with vigorous stirring, 140 parts of methanesulfonyl chloride and 150 parts by volume of concentrated sodium hydroxide solution are added dropwise at the same time, in such a way that the solution always remains alkaline. The reaction mixture is then warmed to room temperature and left to stand for a few hours. The pH is then adjusted to 5 with concentrated hydrochloric acid and the precipitated 2-methanesulfonamido-benzoic acid is suction filtered and washed with water.
The crude product, after drying in vacuo, melts at about 100 "between 175-180". If it is purified by recrystallization from alcohol, it shows a melting point of 185-187 ". b) 2-methanesulfonamido-benzoic anilide.
215 parts of 2-methanesulfonamido-benzoic acid are suspended in 600 parts of chlorobenzene, and 160 parts of thionyl chloride are added dropwise at 55-600 parts. Then the temperature of the mixture is gradually increased to 80G and kept at this level until no more hydrochloric acid gas evolution can be detected, which is the case after about 2-3 hours. The reaction vessel is then fitted with a descending condenser and the excess of thionyl chloride is first distilled off. Finally, the temperature is increased and a mixture of thionyl chloride and chlorobenzene is distilled off until the thermometer shows the boiling point of the chlorobenzene in the vapor phase.
The descending condenser is then removed and the reaction mixture is cooled to about 400.
13 parts of aniline are then added dropwise at this temperature. A dense precipitate of aniline chlorohydrate precipitates out immediately. While stirring, the temperature is increased again to 110 in the course of a few hours and kept at this level until no more hydrochloric acid gas evolution can be detected. On cooling to room temperature, the 2-methanesulfonamido-benzoic anilide precipitates in crystalline form. It is filtered off with suction, washed with a little chlorobenzene and can be used in this raw state for the next stage without further ado.
This starting material is now further processed according to the invention:
2-methanesulfonamido-5-chlorobenzoic acid-4 'chloroanilide.
The crude, still moist product from b) is suspended in 1000 parts of methanol and, after addition of about 5 g of FeCl3, 140 g of chlorine gas are passed in with cooling. The temperature should always be between 30 and 35O. The chlorine is absorbed relatively easily and without the formation of resinification products. After the uptake of chlorine has ended, the reaction mixture is diluted with 500 parts of water and the crude chlorination product is filtered off. It is washed with water and dried at about 100 "in a vacuum.
The crude chlorination mixture melts around 195-200. If it is recrystallized once from butanone and once from chlorobenzene, a pure compound is obtained which melts at 221-222 and which, through analysis and hydrolytic cleavage with subsequent identification of the cleavage products, is 2-methane sulfonamido-5-chlorobenzoic acid- 4'- chloranilide proves.
The compounds which can be prepared by the process described can be used by the processes customary for textile finishing. They have a considerable affinity for keratinic material and are therefore particularly suitable for the real moth-proof finishing of such materials, both in the raw and in the processed state, e.g. B. of raw or processed sheep wool, as well as other animal hair, skins and furs. In addition to providing a real moth-proof finish in the dye bath, the compounds can also be used to impregnate wool or woolen articles, which also provides excellent protection against moths.
In addition to their insecticidal activity against the larvae of the clothes moth, the compounds also have an activity against the larvae of the fur and carpet beetles, so that the textiles equipped in one way or another with the compounds according to the invention, such as woolen blankets, wool carpets, woolen linen, woolen clothes and Hosiery, are protected against all types of keratin eater.
As far as the compounds in the sulfonamide group still contain a hydrogen atom, that is, if 2 is represented by a hydrogen atom, they are usually readily soluble in water in the form of their alkali salts. They can be applied directly to the keratinous material from these solutions by immersing this in the alkali salt solutions for a shorter or longer period of time, or by spraying or spraying with the solutions, or treating it in the manner of the dyeing process at elevated temperature.
Compounds which no longer contain dissociable hydrogen in the sulfonamide group can, for. B. from their aqueous suspensions or emulsions on the material to be protected, preferably at elevated temperature, or you can use such suspensions or emulsions for spraying or spraying the material.
Because of their better solubility in organic solvents, these compounds are also particularly suitable for application from non-aqueous media. The materials to be protected can either simply be impregnated with these solutions, or with a suitable choice of solvent, the moth-proof finish can be combined with a dry cleaning process.
These compounds can be used as follows: a) 0.5 part of 2-methanesulfonamido-3,5-dichlorobenzoic acid-3 ', 4'-dichloroanilide are dissolved with the aid of 10 parts of 0.1N sodium hydroxide solution and a little alcohol . This solution is diluted with 3,000 parts of water, and 100 parts of wool are treated at about 600 for 15 minutes in the liquor thus produced. Then 5 parts of 100% acetic acid are added and the treatment is continued at 600 for a further hour.
The wool is then rinsed and dried as usual. It proves to be resistant to attack by moth, fur beetle and carpet beetle larvae. b) For the application of 2- (methanesulfon-methyl amido) - 3,5 - 5-dichlorobenzoic acid-3 ', 4a-dichloroanilide you can z. B. proceed as follows:
0.5 parts of active ingredient are dissolved in 10 parts of dimethylformamide and the solution in 3000 parts of water, which is about 1-2 parts of an emulsifier, e.g. B. sulfated castor oil, contain poured.
In this liquor, 100 parts of wool are treated at boiling temperature for 30 minutes.
After rinsing and drying, the wool proves to be moth-proof.
Of course, further auxiliaries and dyes can be added to the treatment baths for applications a) and b). c) First a 20% solution of 2- (methanesulfon-isopropyl-amido) -3,5-dichlorobenzoic acid 3, 4'-dichloro anilide in glycol monomethyl ether is prepared. 10 parts by volume of this solution are mixed with 200 parts by volume of a solvent suitable for dry cleaning, e.g. B. a suitable gasoline fraction (Diluan S), diluted. If desired, additives that promote cleaning can be added. The wool articles are then treated as usual in this cleaning liquid and then spun off to a solvent content of about 1000 / o of the wool weight.
After drying, they proved to be moth-proof.
In an analogous manner, baths with the same or similar composition can also be used for finishing untreated or otherwise treated or cleaned articles.
Similar mixtures can also be used for spraying or spraying wool in every processing stage.
