Spacer for concrete rebar The invention relates to a spacer for concrete rebar, which is intended for arranging such iron at a certain distance from a concrete casting mold. It is known to use spacers for this purpose, which consist of a concrete body in which a resilient fastening organ is present, or of a metal body with a corresponding fastening element.
Furthermore, spacers made of flexible plastic are known in which a. Spacer body is provided with fasteners for the rebar. In the latter case, in particular those spacers have been proven, the spacer: r consists of a molding whose side surfaces run away from the concrete iron away in oblique directions against each other and form a more or less sharp cutting edge, which before and during casting of the concrete is in contact with the concrete casting mold.
It has been shown with the two last-mentioned types of spacers that under certain circumstances after pouring, hardening and stripping of the concrete, difficulties can arise because moisture from the previous contact surface between spacer and concrete casting mold along the surfaces of the spacer can penetrate into the concrete and so get to the reinforcement iron, which is associated with the known disadvantages with regard to corrosion of the iron.
The invention aims to overcome these difficulties. Surprisingly, it has been shown that in the finished concrete no moisture penetrates the reinforcing iron if, according to the invention, between the support surfaces to be placed on the concrete casting mold and the means for fastening the spacer to the concrete iron, all side surfaces of the spacer have at least one shoulder, which protrudes outward from the part of the side surfaces adjacent to the supporting surfaces and ends in a sharp outer edge.
The named outer edge is expediently formed by surfaces of the spacer body which abut one another at an angle of at most 90.
It has surprisingly been found that moisture which penetrates from the surface of the poured concrete along the side surfaces of the spacer into the concrete does not migrate around this when it reaches the said outer edge, in order to continue along the surface of the holder in the direction of the iron to penetrate, but that the shoulder provided with the mentioned outer edge acts as a moisture-repellent screen, which thus forms an effective protection against the ingress of moisture to the reinforcing iron.
It has not yet been possible to definitively determine whether surface forces in the water are involved, or whether the effect is due to other peripheral phenomena.
An embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.
1 shows a spacer made of flexible plastic fastened to a reinforcing iron, viewed in the longitudinal direction of the reinforcing iron, and FIG. 2 shows the spacer and the reinforcing iron in a direction perpendicular thereto.
The spacer shown has the task of holding a concrete reinforcing bar 1 at a predetermined minimum distance from a concrete casting mold 0.
For this purpose, the holder has a plastic spacer 2, which is provided with two flexible legs 3 at the top, which serve as means for fastening the holder to the reinforcement iron 1 and which can encompass the latter like a clamp. The legs 3 are made together with the spacer 2 from a single molded body.
The spacer body 2 is further designed in such a way that at the bottom it has two cutting edges 4 and 5 which intersect at right angles and which are intended to be supported on the concrete casting mold. The blade-like design of the support surfaces has the advantage that the spacer is practically invisible on the surface of the finished concrete. The reinforcement iron 1 rests on a hollow cylindrical surface 6 between the two legs 3 and on projections 7 which are present on the spacer body 2 and protrude in the longitudinal direction of the iron 1.
The training of the spacer described so far is known. What is new is that between the surface 6 carrying the reinforcement iron 1 and the projections 7 on the one hand and the support surfaces 4 and 5 to be applied to the concrete casting mold 0 on the other hand, all side surfaces of the stand body 2 have a shoulder with a sharp outer edge 8.
Said shoulder is delimited by an uninterrupted shoulder surface 12 running completely around the spacer body 2, which protrudes outward from the parts 9 'and 11' of the side surfaces adjacent to the support surfaces 4 and 5 and with the parts 9 and 11 of the side surfaces at the mentioned outer edge 8 meets at an angle of at most 90. According to FIG. 1, a protruding strip 10, which has the outer edge 8 and the shoulder surface 12, is present on each of the side surface parts 9.
On the strips 10, the surfaces forming the outer edge 8 abut one another at an acute angle. Between the parts 11 and 11 'of the other two side surfaces, the shoulder surface 12 according to FIG. 2 only forms a right-angled step.
In order to achieve the intended effect, it is sufficient if the paragraph formed by the shoulder surface 12 has a height of a few tenths of a millimeter. However, the shoulder is expediently made at least 0.5 mm high, so that the outer edge protrudes by at least this amount beyond the parts 9 'and 11' of the side surfaces of the spacer body 2 adjacent to the support surfaces 4 and 5. In certain cases a shoulder of 1 mm and more is advantageous.
After pouring, hardening and stripping of the concrete, the blade-shaped support surfaces 4 and 5 of the spacer described are in the upper surface of the concrete. If at this point moisture penetrates the side surfaces of the spacer along into the concrete, this moisture will hold up on the paragraph limited by the shoulder surface 12 because the moisture does not manage to wander around the sharp outer edge 8. Therefore, the moisture cannot penetrate to the reinforcement iron 1 and damage it through corrosion.
The shoulder surface 12 and the outer edge 8 represent an insurmountable obstacle for moisture on the creep path from the support surfaces 4 and 5 to the reinforcement bar 1.
It is clear that the same advantageous effect is also achieved with differently shaped spacers if they have at least one shoulder on all side surfaces between the support surfaces to be laid on the casting mold and the means for fastening the spacer to a reinforcement iron on all side surfaces, the outside in a sharp Edge ends and protrudes outward from the parts of the side surfaces of the spacer body adjoining the support surfaces. The spacer does not have to be made of plastic in every case.
