Adjustable chair There are adjustable chairs known with a body support unit, which have a seat and a backrest, which consist of one piece, and a leg support which is attached for the purpose of a coordinated movement relative to the body support unit, in particular an improved, adjustable chair which the body support unit can be brought into a resting or inclined intermediate position, with the leg support raised to bring the person sitting on it into a partially lying or resting position and then into a completely lying position,
in which the person sitting on top is lying down.
Known adjustable chairs have a carrier part, furthermore a body support unit with a seat and a backrest which is movably or swingably attached to the carrier part, as well as a leg support which functions as a function of the body support unit for the purpose of moving into an elevated leg support position is assigned accordingly to the adjustable movement of the chair.
Chairs available on the market are designed in such a way that they provide a semi-recumbent or inclined position for the person sitting on top, with the leg rest raised in relation to the body support unit and the semi-reclined or inclined position being suitable for reading, watching TV and the like.
In addition, chairs are available on the market that are designed to provide a completely lying or completely relaxed position for the person sitting on it, the body support unit, which is arranged at an angle relative to the horizontal, is suitable for complete relaxation and the Leg rest is increased compared to the body support unit.
It is generally an object of the present invention to provide an improved reclining chair which is suitable for reading, watching television and the like as well as for complete relaxation and in which two separate chair positions can be realized, namely one first semi-recumbent or inclined intermediate position in which the body support unit is arranged at an angle relative to the horizontal, the leg support being increased accordingly for partial relaxation and a second completely recumbent position, compared to the body support unit
in which the body support unit is arranged at a different angle relative to the horizontal, the legrest being in its elevated position, which is suitable for complete relaxation, relative to the body support unit.
The adjustable chair according to the invention is provided with a support part and a body support unit which has a seat and a rear support and is pivotably connected to an actuating device for a leg support.
This chair is characterized by a support member which is movably arranged on the support part, and a leg support which is articulated by the actuating device with the support member in such a way that the leg support is in a first phase of adjustment, in which the body support unit is made a seat position is moved into an inclined intermediate position, is brought into an elevated leg support position, while it is in a second adjustment movement phase together with the body support unit,
which here goes into the lying or relaxation position, further increased, as well as by a stop that takes effect at the end of the first adjustment phase of the actuating device, in which phase the carrier member remains stationary, which only moves during the second adjustment phase.
Advantageously, the body support unit can move into the partially lying or resting intermediate position by means of a chair control or connection arrangement, the legrest moving into the desired elevated legrest position, which practically integrates the movement of the body support unit and the legrest into one inclined complete lying position.

1-3, an improved reclining chair is illustrated and designated by the reference numeral 110. The chair has two main positions and can be moved into a semi-recumbent or inclined intermediate position for watching TV, with the leg rest, as can be seen in FIG. 2, being raised and can be further moved into a full reclining position, as can be seen from FIG is moving. The chair has a carrier part 112 with opposite side walls 114 which are connected to one another by means of suitable cross struts 115a, 115b, 115c.
Movable or swingable, a body support unit 116 with a seat 118 and a backrest 120, which consist of one piece, is arranged on the carrier part 112. The back support 120 is provided with an extension part forming a whole therewith, and the body support unit 116 is arranged on the carrier part 112 at the lower end of the extension part 124 on the main or back support axis 122.
The main or back support axis 122 serves as a means for attaching the body support unit 116 to the carrier part 112 for the purpose of movement about the main axis 122 from the upright or sitting position according to FIG. 1 into the inclined intermediate or rest position according to FIG. 2 and then into the complete one Lying or relaxation position according to FIG. 3.
Below the front end of the seat 118 of the body support unit 116, a leg rest 126 is arranged, which is from the folded position under the seat, as illustrated in Fig. 1, in which he raised leg support positions, as shown successively in FIGS. 2 and 3 are movable. In this embodiment, the legrest 126 is suspended below half of the front end of the seat 118 by means of a linkage arrangement which will be described later.
The movement of the legrest 126 is adapted to the movement of the body support unit 116 by means of a leg support control linkage, which is generally designated by the reference numeral 130, which has a number of joints which are movable relative to one another with regard to the adjustment movements of the body support unit 116 . In detail, the legrest control connecting linkage 130 has a guide or support joint 132 which is articulated coaxially with its rear end to the main axis 122, the coaxial axes being mounted in a bracket or a fastening 134.
In the upright or seated position of the chair, the support joint 132 remains stationary with respect to the support part in that it rests against the cross strut 115b which is arranged below the joint. When the legrest control linkage 130 is blocked, the support hinge 132 slides upward about the axis 122 at its rearward end, as will become clear below. A first pair of joints 138, 140 is operably connected between the guide or support joint 132 and the leg support 126, the individual joints extending at an angle to one another and being connected to a joint connection 142 at their adjacent ends.
The joint 138 of the joint pair 138, 140 is suspended from the support joint 132 on the axis 144, which is kept at a distance from the other end of the joint. The other end of the joint 140 of the joint pair 138, 140 is connected to the leg support by means of a joint connection -146. Between the seat 118 and the leg support 126, a second pair of joints 148, 150 is actuated, bar-connected, the individual joints extending at an angle to one another and being connected to a joint connection 152 at their adjacent ends.
The joint 148 is suspended at its upper end on the seat 118 on the axis 154, which is spaced from the front end of the seat. The joint 150 is connected at its other end by means of a joint connection 156 to the leg support 126, the joint connection 156 being arranged below the joint connection 146 at a distance. The joint 148 crosses the joint 140, and at the crossing point the joints 140, 148 have an articulated connection 158. The joint pairs 138, 140 and 148, 150 must be viewed as if they create a double four-rail suspension connection for the leg support , wherein a suspension axis 144 on the pivot 132 and the other suspension axis 154 are arranged on the seat.
The suspension connection is actuated by means of a connecting joint 160 which has a joint connection 162 at its front end to the upper end of the joint 138 of the legrest control connection linkage 130 and a joint connection 164 at its rear end for connection to the Seat and the back support above the fixed extension part 124 has.
The movable joints of the legrest control linkage 130 can be prevented from moving relative to one another due to the movement of the body support unit 116 from the upright sitting position to the inclined or partially lying position. In this embodiment, a stop 166 is arranged on the swivel joint 132 in such a way that it cooperates with the movable joints 138, 160 in the area of the joint connection 162 when the body support unit 116 moves into the inclined or semi-stationary intermediate position according to FIG. 2.
It is of course desirable that the stop or blocking member 166 be positioned relative to the moveable joints so as to only block the legrest control linkage 130 after the legrest 126 has moved to the desired elevated legrest position where it is advancing the seat 118 extends.
If the leg support control linkage 130 is blocked by contact between the stop or the blocking member 166 and the joints 138, 160, the leg support linkage 130 holds the leg support 126 in the raised leg support position and further adjustment movement of the chair forces the carrier joint 132 to rotate about its axis 122.
During such a further adjustment movement from the rest position to the lying position, the body support unit 116 and the raised legrest 126 move as a unitary arrangement around the main axis 122 without any relative movement between the joints of the leg support control unit - binding linkage or mechanism 130. In some respects, the movably arranged support hinge 132 serves as a backlash link that allows the body support unit and leg support to continue to move as one unit after the leg support control link 130 is blocked.
The limits for the movement of the adjustable chair are given by the cross strut 115c on the carrier part 112, which is arranged in such a way that it interacts with the lower surface of the seat 116 to ensure the upright sitting position ( Fig. 1), as well as through the strut 115a on the carrier part, which is arranged in such a way that it touches the downward extension part 124 of the backrest and thereby determines the perfect lying position for the chair (Fig. 3).
The function and purpose of this improved two-ply chair will be more understandable with reference to the following description of a typical loading sequence of operations according to the progressive sequence of FIGS. 1 to 3: In the upright sitting position of the chair of FIG. 1, the support joint 132 rests on the Strut or on the stop 115b, and the legrest control connection linkage 130 is not blocked and is able to move the legrest 126 into the desired legrest position.
Accordingly, when the rider leans against the backrest and forces the body support unit 116 to pivot or rotate about the main axis 122, the leg support control linkage 130 is effective to raise the leg support 126.
In detail, the axis 164 moves in the opposite direction clockwise around the main axis to the rear (see Fig. 1), which via the actuating or drive joint 160 forces the lower arm of the joint or double arm lever 138 to rotate clockwise around the axis 144. To pivot the opposite direction, whereby the joint pairs 138, 140 and 148, <B> 150 </B> who are forced to swing forward.
If the leg support 126 moves into the raised leg support position, the inclined or semi-recumbent intermediate position is brought about by contact between the movable joints 138, 160 and the stop or blocking member 166, as can be seen from FIG.
With further pressure on the backrest, the support joint 132 begins to rotate about the main axis 122, with the blocked legrest control linkage 130 supporting the legrest 126 in its elevated legrest position. If the support joint 132 rotates about the main axis 122 in the counterclockwise direction, then the back support 120 moves towards the strut or the stop 115a, which causes the full lying position illustrated in FIG. 3.
If the person sitting on it wishes to return to the normal sitting position, all that is necessary is to exert downward pressure on the leg support 126, whereupon the support hinge 132 returns to its supported position on the strut or stop 115b.
Another downward pressure forces the legrest control linkage 130 to move in the unblocked direction until the body support unit 116 is again in the upper upright sitting position illustrated in FIG.
In Fig. 4 to 6, another improved ver adjustable chair is illustrated, and denoted by the general reference number 210 all. The chair has two main positions and can be moved into a semi-recumbent or inclined intermediate position for television viewing, the legrest being raised, as can be seen from FIG. 5, and can be moved further into a full reclining position according to FIG. The chair has a support part 212 with opposing side walls 214 which are connected to one another by suitable cross struts <I> 21_5a, </I> 215b, 215c.
Movable or swingable on the carrier part 212, a body support unit 216 is attached, which has a seat 218 and a back support 220, which consist of one piece. The back support 220 is equipped with a whole bil Denden extension part 224, and the body support unit 216 is arranged on the support part 212 adjacent the upper end of the extension part 224 on the main or back support axis 222.
The main or back support axis 222 is used to move the body support unit 216 on the support part 212 for the purpose of movement around the main axis 222 from the upright or sitting position according to FIG. 4 into the inclined or resting intermediate position according to FIG. 5 and then into the complete lying position. or to move the relaxation position according to FIG. 6.
Arranged below the front end of the seat 218 of the body support unit 216 is a leg support 226 which can be moved from the folded-in position under the seat according to FIG. 4 into the raised leg support position. In this embodiment, the leg support 226 is suspended below the front end of the seat 218 by means of a linkage arrangement to be described.
The movement of the legrest 226 is adapted to the movement of the body support unit 216 by means of a legrest control linkage which is generally designated by the reference numeral 230 and has a number of joints which are movable relative to one another due to the adjustment movement of the body support unit 216. In detail, the legrest control connecting linkage 230 has a guide or support joint 232, which is pivoted with its rear end on a support joint axis 234, which is arranged in front of the main axis 222 at a distance.
In the upright or sitting position of the chair, the guide or support hinge 232 remains stationary with respect to the support part, resting against the cross brace or rod 215b which is arranged below the hinge 232. If the legrest control connecting linkage 230 is blocked, then the support joint 232 shifts at its rear end, as will become clear below, about the axis 234 upwards. A first pair of joints 238, 240 is switched between the guide or support joint 232 and the leg support 226, the individual joints extending at an angle to one another and being connected to a joint 242 at their adjacent ends.
The joint 238 of the joint pair 238, 240 is suspended at its other or upper end on the support joint 232 on an axis 244. The other end of the joint 240 of the joint pair 238, 240 is connected by means of an articulated connection 246 to the leg support, via a connecting joint pair 239, 241, the neighboring ends of which are connected to an articulated connection 243 between the first and second joint pair is designated by the reference numeral 245. A third pair of joints 248, 250 is operably connected between the support joint 232 and the leg support 226, the individual joints extending at an angle to one another and being connected at their adjacent ends to an articulated connection 252.
The hinge 248 is suspended at its upper or other end on the support hinge on an axis 254 which is arranged adjacent the front end of the hinge 232. The joint 250 is connected at its end to the leg support 226 by means of a joint connection 256, the joint connection 256 being arranged at a distance above the joint connection 246. The hinge 248 crosses the hinge 240, and at the intersection the hinges 240, 248 have a hinge connection 258. The hinge 250 crosses the hinge 239, and at the crossing point the joints 239, 250 have an articulation 259.
The pairs of joints 238, 240, 239, 241 and 248, 250 are to be viewed as if they provide a four-rail suspension connection for the leg support, with both suspension axes 244, 254 being arranged on the support joint 232 at spaced apart locations. The suspension connection is actuated by means of a connecting hinge 260 which supports a hinge connection 262 at its front end to the hinge 238 of the leg support control linkage 230 and a hinge connection 264 at its rear end to the lower end of the fixed extension part 124 of the back 220 below the Main axis 222 has.
The movable joints of the legrest control linkage 230 can be prevented from moving relative to one another due to the movement of the body support unit 216 from the upright sitting position to the inclined or partially lying position. In this embodiment, a stop 266 is attached to the support joint 232 in such a way that it interacts with the movable joint 238 in the area of the joint connection 262 when the body support unit 216 moves into the inclined or semi-recumbent intermediate position according to FIG.
It is of course desirable that the stop or blocking member 266 be positioned with respect to the moveable hinges so as to block the legrest control linkage 230 only after the legrest 226 has moved to the desired elevated leg support position, which is moved from the seat 218 extends forward.
If the legrest control connecting linkage 230 is blocked by means of contact between the stop or blocking member 266 and the joint 238, the legrest control connecting linkage 230 holds the legrest 226 in the raised legrest position and further adjustment movement of the chair forces the carrier joint 232 to rotate about its support axis 234.
During such a further adjustment movement from the rest position to the reclining position, the body support unit 216 and the elevated leg support 226 move as a unitary arrangement about the main axis 222 without any relative movement between the joints of the leg support control linkage 230.
In some respects, the movably disposed support hinge 232 serves as a backlash link that allows further movement of the body support assembly 216 and leg support 226 as a single assembly after the leg support control linkage 230 is blocked.
The limits for the movement of the adjustable chair are determined by the support joint, which is relatively stationary during the first phase of movement and is able to interact with the underside of the seat 216 so that the right sitting position (Fig. 4) is achieved, as well by the strut 215a on the carrier part 212, which is arranged in such a way that it touches the back support extension part 224 and thereby determines the complete lying position for the chair (FIG. 6).
The function and purpose of this improved two-ply chair will become clearer with reference to the following description of a typical operating sequence in progressive order of FIGS. 4-6.
In the upright sitting position of the chair according to FIG. 4, the support joint 232 rests on the strut or the stop 215b and the leg support control connection linkage 230 is not blocked and is able to move the leg support 226 into the desired leg support position. Accordingly, when the rider leans against the backrest and forces the body support unit 216 to rotate about the main axis 222, the legrest control linkage 230 becomes operative to raise the legrest 226.
In detail, the axis 264 moves forward in the counterclockwise direction around the main axis (see FIG. 4), which via the actuating or drive joint 260 forces the joint 238 to pivot about the suspension axis 244 in the counterclockwise direction , whereby the joint pairs 238, 240, 239, 241 and 248, 250 swing forward. If the legrest 226 moves into the raised legrest position, then the inclined or semi-recumbent position becomes effective through contact between the movable joint 238 and the stop or blocking member 266, as can be seen from FIG.
With further pressure on the backrest, the support hinge 232 begins to rotate about the support axis 234, with the blocked leg support control linkage 230 supporting the leg support 226 in its elevated leg support position. If the support joint 232 rotates about the support axis in the clockwise opposite direction, then the back support extension part moves towards the strut or the stop 215a, which causes the complete lying position according to FIG.
If the performer wishes to return to the normal upright or sitting position, all that is necessary is to exert downward pressure on the leg support 226, whereupon the support hinge 232 returns to its supported position on the strut or stop 215b. Further downward pressure forces the legrest control connecting linkage 230 to move back in the unblocked direction until the body support unit 216 has returned to the upright sitting position according to FIG.
7 to 9, another improved adjustable chair ver is illustrated, which is denoted by the reference numeral 310. The chair has two main positions and can move into a semi-recumbent or inclined intermediate position for television, with the leg rest, as can be seen from FIG. 8, being raised, and move further into a fully reclining position, as can be seen from FIG. The chair has a support part 312 with opposite side walls 314 which are connected to one another by means of suitable cross struts 315a, 315b, 315e.
A body support unit 316 is movably or swingably attached to the carrier part 312 and has a seat 318 and a back support 320 which consist of one piece, the back support 320 having an extension part 324 that forms a whole with it. The body support unit 316 is attached to the carrier part <B> 312 </B> via the carrier joint 332 on a main or back support axis 322, the carrier joint 332 having an articulated connection 325 to the lower end of the extension part 324.
The main or back support axis 322 is used to move the body support unit 316 on the carrier part 312 for the purpose of moving around the main axis 322 from the upright or sitting position according to FIG. 7 into the inclined or resting intermediate position according to FIG. 8 and then into the complete lying or relaxation position to be attached according to FIG. It also serves to mount the support joint 332 so as to be movable.
Below the front end of the seat 318 of the body support unit 316, a leg support 326 is arranged, which is movable from the folded position under half of the seat according to FIG. 7 in the raised leg support positions. In this embodiment, the leg support 326 is suspended below the seat 318 in front of its end by means of a connecting rod arrangement which will be described later.
The movement of the legrest 326 is adapted to the movement of the body support unit 316 by means of a legrest control connecting linkage, which is denoted by the reference numeral 330 and has a number of joints which, due to the adjustment movement of the body support unit <B> 316 </ B> are movable. In detail, the leg support control connection linkage 330 has the movably arranged guide or support joint 332.
In the upright or sitting position of the chair, the guide or support joint 332 remains stationary with respect to the support part, bearing against the cross brace 315b which is arranged below the support joint 332. If the leg support control connection linkage 330 is blocked, then the carrier joint 332 moves upwards about the joint axis 322, this axis 322 being arranged between the ends of the carrier joint, as will become clear below.
Between the guide or support joint 332 and the leg support 326, a first pair of joints 338, 340 is operably connected, the individual joints at an angle to each other and they are connected to a joint 342 at their adjacent ends. The Ge joint 338 of the pair of joints 338, 340 is suspended from the support joint 332 on an axis 344 which is kept at a distance from its other or upper end. The other end of the joint 340 of the joint pair 338, 340 is connected to the leg support 326 by means of a joint connection 346.
Between the seat 318 and legrest 326, a second pair of joints 348, 350 is operably connected, the individual joints being at an angle to each other and being connected to a joint 352 at their adjacent ends. The joint 348 is suspended at its upper or other end on the seat 318 on an axle 354 which is spaced from the front end of the seat. The joint 350 is connected at its other end to the leg support 326 by means of a joint connection 356, the joint connection 356 being arranged at a distance below the joint connection 346. The hinge 348 crosses the hinge 340, and at the crossing point the hinges 348, 340 have an articulated connection 358.
The joint pairs 338, 340 and 348, 350 are to be regarded as if they provide a four-rail suspension connection for the leg support, one suspension axis 344 being arranged on the support joint 332 and the other suspension axis 354 being arranged on the seat 318. The suspension connection is operated by means of a connecting hinge 360, which is connected by means of a hinge connection 362 at its front end to the upper end of the hinge 338 at a point held at a distance from the hinge connection 344, and by means of a joint connection 364 at its rear end at the Ver connection point of the seat and the backrest above half of the fixed extension part 324 is connected.
The movable joints of the legrest control linkage 330 can be prevented from moving relative to one another due to the movement of the body support unit 316 from the upright sitting position to the inclined or partially lying intermediate position. In this embodiment, a stop 366 is attached to the front end of the support joint 332 in such a way that it interacts with the movable joint 338 in the area of the joint connection 344 when the body support unit 316 moves into the inclined or semi-recumbent intermediate position according to FIG.
If the legrest control linkage 330 is blocked by contact between the stop or blocking member 366 and the hinge 338, the leg support linkage 330 holds the legrest 326 in the elevated legrest position and further adjustment of the chair forces the support hinge 332 to revolve around its axis 322 to rotate between its ends.
During such further adjustment movement from the rest position to the reclining position, the body support unit 316 and the raised legrest 326 move as a unitary arrangement about the main axis 322 without any relative movement between the joints of the legrest control linkage or mechanism 330 .
In some respects, the movably attached support hinge 332 serves as an idle link that allows the body support unit and leg support to continue to move as one unit after the leg support control linkage 330 is blocked.
The limits for the movement of the adjustable deck chair are determined by the strut or cross bar 315c on the support part <B> 312 </B>, which cooperate with the underside of the seat 318 in order to achieve the upright sitting position (FIG. 7), as well as by the strut 315a on the carrier part, wel che is arranged such that it touches the back support 320 and thereby the complete Liegestel ment for the chair (see Fig. 9).
The function and purpose of this improved adjustable chair with two positions will be Licher with reference to the following description of a typical operating sequence in progressive order of FIGS. 7 to 9: In the upright sitting position of the chair according to FIG. 7, the support joint 332 rests on the The strut or stop 315b and the legrest control linkage 330 is not blocked and is able to move the legrest 326 into the desired legrest position.
Accordingly, when the occupant leans against the backrest and forces the body support unit 316 to rotate about the main axis 322, the legrest control linkage 330 is effective to raise the legrest 326.
In detail, the axis 364 moves in the opposite direction clockwise around the main axis (see FIG. 8) to the rear, which via the actuation or drive joint 360 forces the lower arm of the joint or the double arm lever 338 to move clockwise around the axis 344 -Swivel in the opposite direction, causing the pairs of joints 338, 340 and 348, 350 to swing forward.
If the leg support 326 moves into the raised leg support position, then the inclined or semi-recumbent position is brought about by contact between the movable joint 338 and the stop or blocking member 366, as can be seen from FIG.
As a result of further pressure on the backrest, the support joint 332 begins to rotate about the main axis 322, with the blocked legrest control connecting linkage 330 supporting the legrest 326 in its raised legrest position. If the support joint 332 rotates about the main axis 322 in the clockwise opposite direction, then the back support 320 moves towards the strut or the stop 315a, which causes the complete lying position according to FIG. 9.
If the person sitting on it wishes to return to the normal upright or sitting position, all that is necessary is to exert downward pressure on the leg support 326, whereupon the support joint 332 returns to its supported position on the strut or stop 315b. Further downward pressure forces the legrest control connection linkage 330 to move in the unblocked direction until the body support unit 316 is brought into the upright sitting position according to FIG.
In Fig. 10 to 12, another improved adjustable chair is illustrated, which is denoted by reference number 410 Be. The chair has two main positions and can move into a semi-lying or inclined intermediate position for television, where the leg support, as can be seen from FIG. 11, is raised and further into a complete lying position, as can be seen from FIG. The chair has a support part 412 with opposite side walls 414 which are connected to one another by suitable cross struts 415a, 415b, 415e. Movably or swingably on the carrier part 412, a body support unit 416 is attached, which has a seat 418 and a back support 420, which consist of one piece.
The body support unit 416 is arranged on the carrier part 412 on a main or back support axis 422 by means of a double-arm lever 424, the upper arm 424a of which is connected to the seat 418 adjacent its rear end on an axis 425.
The main or back support axis 422 serves to move the body support unit 416 on the carrier part 412 for the purpose of movement about the main axis 422 from the upright or sitting position according to FIG. 10 into the inclined or resting intermediate position according to FIG. 11 and then into the full one to bring constant lying or relaxation position according to FIG. But it also serves to arrange the support joint 432 for the purpose of a pivoting or rotating movement.
Below the front end of the seat 418 of the body support unit 416 is a leg support 426 which can be moved from the folded position under half of the seat according to FIG. 10 into the raised leg support positions. In this embodiment, the leg support 426 is suspended below the front end of the seat 418 by means of a linkage arrangement which will be described later.
The movement of the leg support 426 is adapted to the movement of the body support unit 416 by means of a leg support control linkage, which is generally designated by the reference numeral 430 and has a number of joints which are movable relative to one another due to the adjustment movement of the body support unit 416. Specifically, the leg support Stever connection rods 430 on the guide or support joint 432, which at one point be adjacent to its rear end, but was arranged in the Ab of these and coaxial with the main axis 422 is.
In the upright or sitting position of the chair, the guide or support joint 432 remains stationary with respect to the support member, resting against the cross brace or rod 415b located below the joint. If the leg support control linkage 430 is blocked, then the support joint 432 moves upward about the axis 422, namely adjacent 'its rear end, as will be described below.
A first pair of joints 438, 440 is operably connected between the guide or support joint 432 and the leg support 426, the individual joints extending at an angle to one another and being connected to a joint 442 at their adjacent ends. The joint 438 of the joint pair 438, 440 is suspended from the support joint 432 on the axis 444, which is located at its other or upper end. The other end of the joint 440 of the joint pair 438, 440 is connected to the leg support by means of a joint connection 446.
Between the seat 418 and the leg support 426, a second pair of joints 448, 450 is operably connected, the individual joints extending at an angle to one another and being connected to an articulated connection 452 at their adjacent ends. The joint 448 is suspended at its other end on the seat 418 on an axis 454 which is kept at a distance from the front end of the seat. The hinge 450 is connected at its other end to the leg support 426 by means of a hinge connection 456, the hinge connection 456 being arranged below the hinge connection 446 at a distance. The joint 448 crosses the joint 440 and at the crossing point the joints 440, 448 have an articulated connection 458.
The pairs of joints 438, 440 and 448, 450 are to be viewed as if they provide a double four-rail suspension connection for the leg support, with one suspension axis 444 on the support joint 432 and the other suspension axis 454 on the seat. The suspension connection is operated by means of a connecting joint 460, which by means of a joint connection 462 at its front end with the joint 438 below the suspension axis 444, as well as by means of an articulated connection 464 at its rear end with the arm 424b of the double-arm fastening lever or Joint 424 is connected.
The movable joints of the legrest control linkage 430 can be prevented from moving relative to one another due to the movement of the body support unit 416 from the upright sitting position to the inclined or partially lying intermediate position. In this embodiment, a stop 466 is attached to the rear end of the support hinge 432 in such a way that it cooperates with the lever arm 424a when the body support unit 416 moves into the inclined or semi-recumbent intermediate position according to FIG.
If the legrest control linkage 430 is blocked by means of contact between the stop or blocking member 466 and the lever arm 424, the legrest linkage 430 holds the legrest 426 in the raised legrest position and a further adjustment movement of the chair forces the support joint 432 to move to rotate the major axis 422.
During such further reclining movement from the rest position to the reclining position, the body support unit 416 and the raised leg support 426 move as a unitary arrangement about the main axis 422 without any relative movement between the joints of the leg support control linkage or mechanism 430. In some respects The movably mounted support hinge 432 serves as a backlash link that allows further movement of the body support assembly 416 and leg support 426 as a single assembly after the leg support control linkage 430 is blocked.
The limits of the movement of the adjustable chair are determined by the strut 415c on the support part 412, which can cooperate with the underside of the seat 418 to achieve the upright sitting position (FIG. 10), and by the strut 415a on the support part , which is arranged in such a way that it touches the back support 420 and thereby serves the full lying position for the chair (see FIG. 12).
The function and purpose of this improved adjustable chair with two positions will become clearer with reference to the following description of a typical operating sequence in progressive order of FIGS. 10 to 12: In the upright sitting position of FIG. 10, the support joint 432 rests on the strut or the stop 415b and the legrest control linkage 430 is not blocked and is able to move the legrest 426 into the desired legrest position.
Accordingly, when the seated occupant leans against the backrest and forces the body support unit 416 to rotate about the main axis 422, the legrest control linkage 430 will operate to raise the legrest 426.
Specifically, the axis 425 moves in the counterclockwise direction about the main axis 422 backwards, which via the lever arm 424b, which serves as an actuating or drive joint, forces the joint 438 to pivot about the axis 444 in the counterclockwise direction, where pivot forward through the joint pairs 438, 440 and 448, 450. If the legrest 426 moves into the raised legrest position, the inclined or semi-recumbent intermediate layer is brought about by contact between the lever arm 224a and the stop or blocking member 466, as can be seen from FIG.
With further pressure on the backrest, the support joint 432 begins to rotate about the main axis 422, with the blocked legrest control connecting linkage 430 supporting the legrest 426 in its elevated legrest position. If the support joint 432 rotates about the main axis 422 in a clockwise opposite direction, then the back support 420 moves towards the strut or the stop 415a, which causes the complete lying position according to FIG.
If the person sitting on it wishes to return to the normal upright or sitting position, all that is necessary is to exert downward pressure on the leg support 426, whereupon the support joint 432 returns to the supported position on the strut or stop 415b. Further downward pressure forces the legrest control connection linkage 430 to move in the unblocked direction until the body support unit 416 is brought back into the upright sitting position according to FIG.
