So weisen z.

Fig. 21 schliesslich zeigt einen Formierkasten.
Device for receiving and for power connection of accumulator plates, in particular electric accumulator The invention relates to a device for receiving and for power connection of accumulators plates, for. B. an electric accumulator, with spaced apart guides open on one side into which the accumulator plates are inserted.
This arrangement has the advantage that the separators otherwise arranged between the electrodes can be dispensed with, which not only results in a reduction in weight but also in an increase in the performance of the accumulator, since the movement of the ions in the electrolyte occurs the separators are not obstructed.
In a known embodiment of an electrical accumulator, the electrodes can be inserted into grooves provided in the housing. In this construction, the electrode plates of the same polarity are soldered or welded to a common pole bridge, which in turn carries the pole heads that penetrate the housing cover, which is sealed by pouring it with potting compound.
However, this design has disadvantages. If, for example, an electrode plate becomes damaged and has to be replaced, the potting compound must first be removed from the cover, whereupon the cover can be lifted. The electrode packs are now pulled out of the housing and the damaged plate is detached from the terminal bridge. When soldering, however, the other neighboring plates also loosen, so that replacing damaged electrodes is time-consuming and costly.
The disadvantages of the known construction are avoided according to the invention in that the guides have contact devices for electrical connection to the accumulator plates. With this arrangement, therefore, the electrical connection is made simultaneously with the insertion of the electrode into the guide, so that any soldering or welding work can be dispensed with and the repair costs are reduced.
Advantageously, the guides consist of frames that can be inserted into the housing which, for. B. are connected to each other by very robots. These guides can also be used retrospectively in existing housings. The guides are expediently made of insulating material, e.g. B. made of plastic or hard rubber, in which guides the Kontaktein directions, z. B. metallic rails are attached.
The guides are z. B. provided in the walls of the housing and the contact devices and their connecting conductors embedded in the walls or attached to them. The contact devices with the connecting lines and connection terminals are expediently cast into the housing. During assembly, only the accumulator plates are inserted and the cover is put on.
The guide frames are advantageously constructed from metal profile strips. The guides expediently have grooves in a manner known per se, in wel che the accumulator plates or extensions of the same can be inserted. The grooves can have rectangular, trapezoidal or a circular segment-shaped cross-section. It is in itself also conceivable to provide the guides with strips that work together with corresponding grooves in the electrode plates.
However, this arrangement requires a relatively complicated design of the electrodes.
The invention can be applied in a particularly advantageous manner to electrical accumulators. However, it also offers considerable advantages in a device for forming electrode plates intended for rechargeable batteries.
So far, accumulator plates have been manufactured and formed in such a way that several plates with the final dimensions are soldered to a larger unit via webs. These larger, z. B. consisting of four elements, aggregates are formed in a suitable manner and then divided on the webs, so that panels with the final dimension are obtained. This manufacturing process requires a relatively large amount of work, which is caused by the soldering and trimming of the plates. In addition, with such forming processes, the plates are usually warped.
If the device according to the invention is used for forming purposes, the electrical connection is established at the same time as the electrode is pushed into the guide, so that no further measures for connecting the plates are necessary. A considerable amount of time can be saved both when inserting and removing the panels and, in contrast to known forming methods, no material waste occurs. The device according to the invention therefore ensures very efficient work, both in terms of time and material.
When using grooves, the groove cross-section is designed according to the special profile of the electrode plate or its extensions.
An advantageous embodiment of the invention is obtained when the electrically conductive, in particular metallic guides are arranged on opposite plate edge sides and form a busbar on each of these sides, with alternating insulation inserts being provided according to the polarity of the plates in the guides. Conveniently, each busbar will be available from an adjacent to the housing, one-piece, metallic and grooved molded body be, for. B. from a correspondingly profiled Me tallplatte.
The advantages of such an embodiment are that the number of contact points required can be reduced to a considerable extent. In addition, there are structural simplifications and, above all, there is the advantageous possibility of manufacturing technology to choose a uniform shape for the contact plates.
Since the electrode plates are held in the guides at their edges, the plates can be made relatively thin-walled if a bending in the middle of the plate is avoided. This can be done by providing ribs. However, it is more appropriate to design the plates with a wavy or zigzag cross-section, since this arrangement not only significantly improves the strength properties but also increases the effective surface.
Although the contact between the electrode plate and the contact device is generally satisfactory, in certain cases, e.g. B. in contact devices made of relatively hard material, advantageous if the contact devices and / or the electrode plates on the mutual Kontaktflä surfaces are roughened. In this way, point or line contact is achieved, which ensures a particularly good contact effect even in difficult cases.
Since the power is supplied to the plates via contact devices provided in guides and the plates can therefore be made relatively thin-walled, an advantageous embodiment of the invention is that the contact devices are connected to electrodes, which consist of at least two spaced apart and panels connected to form a unit are constructed. This results in a considerable increase in the capacity and thus the performance of batteries compared to the known designs with single plates.
According to the general opinion, it should be expected that then; if homopolar plates face each other, especially if the distance between them is correspondingly small, the plates facing each other are electrically insignificant. However, it was found that this view is not confirmed by practice. So show z. B. Electrodes that are made up of two plates have almost twice the capacity compared to single plates.
Due to this fact, there is the possibility of building a battery with a correspondingly high capacity in a very space-saving manner, which in most cases is to be rated as a great advantage.
It was also found that the distance between the individual plates of the electrode unit expediently corresponds approximately to the thickness of the plates.
The accumulator plates or the guide frame can advantageously be fixed by extensions of the cover that can be placed on the housing with interconnection of seals. The extensions are expediently elastic and can consist, for example, of soft rubber webs that are attached to extensions of the lid. Appropriately, two extensions are provided for each cell, which are arranged on both sides of the plane of symmetry normal to the plates.
A further advantageous embodiment of the inven tion consists in that contact devices are provided on the housing cover, which can be arranged in guides provided in the housing cover.
Such a training has proven itself particularly well with flashlight batteries, but it can also be used for larger batteries, eg. B. starter batteries can be used. The advantages arising here are that a structural unit can be created which comprises the electrode plate connections, the connecting lines of the cells and the connection terminals of the accumulator and is accommodated in the lid of the accumulator, so that simply putting the lid on the panel connection is made.
On the other hand, when removing the cover, the interior of the battery is immediately accessible and the electrode plates can be changed without any difficulties. If the invention is applied to flashlight accumulators, such an accumulator can have the usual dimensions, the accumulator connections being designed in the form of brass strips. Guide grooves can be provided in the housing, which keep the plates at the desired distance from one another.
The bottom of the housing carries dirt ridges and rubber strips can be placed on these, which cause the electrode plates to be pressed against the contact devices in the cover.
The pole bolts of the connection terminals can have continuous annular grooves on the outside into which rubber washers are inserted as seals.
At the beginning, the disadvantages occurring in known constructions have already been described in detail. It has been found that these disadvantages can be avoided particularly favorably if the connection terminals of the battery are arranged on the side walls of the battery housing and enforce this with bushing bolts that are in direct electrical contact with the contact devices or their connec tion elements or with them consist of one piece. The measure ensures that the housing cover no longer has any bushings for the pole heads.
This ensures a quick removal of the cover and thus the practically unimpeded accessibility of the interior of the housing, which is an essential advantage, especially when repairing batteries. In addition, the sealing of the lead-through bolts in the proposed design presents only minor difficulties. If the housing is made of insulating material, the housing lead-through bolts are expediently cast into the housing wall, the part of the bolt connected to the housing advantageously having a corrugated surface.
In order to ensure good contact and thus a small contact resistance, the electrodes are conveniently made from an alloy of 5 to 80 parts by weight of aluminum, 20 to 95 parts by weight of lead and up to 5 parts by weight of tin. As a result of their light metal content, these alloys have a lower specific weight than lead, so that a weight reduction is also possible by using this electrode material.
In the manufacture of these alloys, aluminum is first crushed and melted. 5 to 30 parts by weight of sodium carbonate or other carbonates are added to this melt and mixed well. Small pieces of lead are melted into this mass while stirring constantly, whereupon the appropriate amount of tin is added while stirring.
The mass, heated to around 700 to 750 C, is poured into the casting mold and immediately cooled in a cold water bath. In order to obtain a homogeneous structure, the mass must remain in the water bath until it has completely cooled down.
The proportions of the alloy components depend on the desired resistance values and on the desired porosity and other properties that come under consideration.

1 shows an electrical accumulator in which the electrode plates 1 are held in the guide frame 2. The guide frames 2 have tabs 3 which are provided with holes 4. The tabs of the lead frames of the positive and negative electrode plates are offset. This can be done, for example, in that the frames for one polarity are used reversed.
The holes 4 of the La rule are penetrated by bolts 5, which connect the frame men of the same polarity with each other electrically conductive. The frames are connected to form a fixed stack by means of especially metallic spacers provided between the plates. The Bol zen 5 are connected to the connection terminals or to the pole bolts 6.
The guide frames 2 are inserted into the accumulator housing 7 and are held in their position by extensions 9 of the cover 8. The extensions 9 are provided with elastic strips, for. B. with soft rubber afford 10, provided. Between the fixed by screws 12 cover 8 and the housing 7, a seal 11 made of soft rubber or the like is arranged.
The guide frame 2 can, for. B. of iron, non-ferrous metal or their alloys or of insulating material, e.g. B, made of plastic, hard rubber or the like. In the latter case, a rail made of conductive material is arranged in the frame, which ensures the connection with the electrode plate. In FIGS. 2 to 4, several designs of guide frames with associated electrode plates are shown, with the electrode plate being provided with a guide strip according to FIG. 3 which is held in a corresponding groove in the guide frame.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 4, the guide bar is provided on the frame, whereas the groove is provided in the electrode plate. The guide bar can, for. B. have a square, rectangular, circular arc or trapezoidal cross-section. 3 and 4 each show two different Ausführungsbei games of the guide frame, namely in the upper part the execution in metal, in the lower part guide frame 2 'made of insulating material with an inserted metallic rail 13. Due to the inventive measures, the electrode plates can are made relatively thin.
In order to enlarge the surface area and to increase the strength, the electrode plates are expediently designed in a zigzag shape in longitudinal section according to FIG. For these reasons, however, the plate can also be provided with a corrugation.
The cover fastening screw 12 is supported on a washer 14 (FIG. 6). The screw 12 is arranged in the threaded bore 1. The inner thread of the washer 14 has the purpose of holding the screw and the connection with the eye 25, in which a chain or the like can be attached, to prevent the screw from being lost.
In order to prevent the acid from escaping around the pole bolt 6, the latter is provided with two ring-shaped grooves 16 into which suitable disks 26 made of rubber or the like are inserted. This rubber disk 26 is again a rubber disk 17, which sits directly on the pole bolt, placed. The rubber disks are pressed against the hard rubber cover 8 with screw nuts 18, for example those made of light metal.
The embodiment shown in FIGS. 8 and 9 differs from the exemplary embodiment described above in that the contact rails 19 for the electrode plates 1 are inserted or embedded in grooves provided in the housing 7.
The connecting conductors 20 and the connection terminals 21 are also arranged in the housing wall. In the interests of a clear representation, no electrode plates are used in a cell in FIGS. 8 and 9. To change the electrode plates, only the cover 8 is removed, after which the electrode plates 1 can be exchanged without further ado. A seal 22 made of soft rubber or the like is arranged between the cover 8 and the housing 7 including the cell partition 7a.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 8 is also ideally suited for forming accumulator plates. In this case, however, it is expedient to use a housing 7 which has no intermediate cell walls 7ca. In addition, the plates 1 will be connected in parallel for the forming process. Such an embodiment is shown in FIG. 21.
From the embodiment of the cover 23 shown in Fig. 10, the arrangement of the extensions 9 is ersicht Lich. In this case, two extensions are provided for each cell, which are arranged on both sides of the plane of symmetry A running normal to the electrode plates. In addition, the rubber sealing strips 23a to 23c can be seen in this figure.
In Fig. 11 only two cells of a multi-cell accumulator are shown completely. This consists of a housing 23 made of an insulating material, e.g. B. hard rubber. Each cell has a positive central plate 24 and two negative plates 25 arranged on either side of this plate 24. On opposite, the end faces 26 of the accumulator plates 24, 25 facing Ge housing walls are provided metal plates 27 which have grooves 28 open to the accumulator plates 24, 25.
In alternating gegenlie lowing grooves 28 insulating inserts 29 are arranged, which prevents unwanted contact with the metallic plate 27 of unequal polarity.
In addition, in the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 11, the power supplies to each metallic plate 27 are carried out laterally through the wall of the housing 23. The connection of the individual cells of the accumulator is made by metallic strips 30. Because the pole connections of all cells are on the outside, in addition to the total accumulator voltage, corresponding partial voltages can also be drawn. It is of course also possible to make the electrical connection of the individual cells in the housing.
Fig.12 illustrates an advantageous embodiment of the contact between the plate edge and the guide frame, which has proven particularly useful in contact devices made of relatively hard material. Both the plate edge 31 and the inner surface of the guide frame 32 are roughened, in the special case with a corrugation 33, which runs in the direction of insertion. It is of course also possible to train the roughening in other ways, z.
B. in the form of knurling or in the form of hemispherical elevations, if a relatively high surface roughness is desired. It is also possible to roughen only the edge of the plate or only the inner surface of the guide frame and to form the mating contact surface with a smooth surface.
In the embodiments of the electrodes shown in FIGS. 13 and 14, several plates are combined to form a plate pack. The individual plates 34 to 36 are connected to each other on the plate edge via metallic spacer elements 37 and 38, respectively. In the double plate according to FIG. 13, the spacer elements 38 are extended beyond the plate edges. The protruding part 39 is intended to be brought into electrically conductive connections with the contact devices provided in guides in order to establish the connection of the plate assembly.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 14, the middle plate 36 itself protrudes at 36 'over the edge of the two remaining plates 34 and 35 and has the same function as the part 39 according to FIG. 13.
The design as a multiple plate can also be used with advantage if, instead of the previously described releasable contact, the connection to the power supply lines or leads by soldering, welding or by manufacturing takes place in one piece.
The housing lead-through bolt shown in FIG. 15 is arranged in a side wall 40 of the accumulator housing. Only the essential parts are illustrated. The guide frame designed as a metal profile strip 42 in which the electrode grid plate 43 is inserted rests on the inside 41 of the side wall 40.
A bolt 44 passes through the side wall 40, the square part 45 of which is aligned with the inside 41 of the housing wall 40 and is in electrical contact with the profile strip 42. In the example shown, the connection is made by soldering. The metal profile strip 42 and the bolt 44 can, however, also consist of one piece. In the bolt 44 a bore 46 with a thread 47 is provided, into which the connection terminal 48 is screwed.
The lid 49 shown in Fig. 16 of a battery emulator has an oval shape, as is common in many flashlight batteries. The accumulator has two cell spaces, each of which has one positive and two negative plates. In the cover 49 grooves 50 are provided in accordance with the arrangement of the plates, in which metal profile strips 51 are inserted with a U-shaped cross section. When the cover 49 is placed on the housing, these profile strips 51 come into an electrically conductive connection with the electrode plates.
Corresponding lines 52 for connecting the negative plate contacts to each other or to the positive plate contact of the neighboring cell are also provided in the cover 49. The accumulator is connected at 53a or 53b by screws, which can be connected directly to the top of the cover 49 with brass strips. However, the connection can also be made by soldering or be made in one piece with the connecting lines 52.
In the middle of the cover 49 a web 54 is provided which cooperates with the central wall of the housing and ensures the separation of the two cell spaces.
From Fig. 18 it can be seen that the electrode plates 55 do not sit directly on the housing bottom 56, but a rubber insert 57 is interposed to hold the plates 55 resiliently. The embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 16 to 18 with guides arranged in the cover and corresponding contact devices in these guides is not only applicable to flashlight batteries, but has also proven itself in larger accumulators.
There can also be a variation in that the connections go through the side wall of the cover and, in particular, the contact devices do not necessarily have to be arranged in guides of the cover. If there are guides in the housing walls, the contact devices on the cover can be in the form of flat rails, that is to say they can be designed without guide elements. The holder of the lower plate edges shown in FIG. 18 is particularly suitable for cells with pasty electrolytes.
If liquid electrolyte is used, the holder shown in FIGS. 19 and 20 can be selected. Dirt webs 58 are provided, on which rubber strips 59 are placed, so that resilient mounting of the electrode plates 55 is ensured.
The forming box according to FIG. 21 shows a similar structure as the accumulator shown in FIG. The cell partition walls are missing and the connecting conductors are designed in the form of two busbars 60. The electrode plates 61 are held in guide frames 62 with a U-profile and are inserted into grooves 63. In the inserted state, the plates 61 sit with the guide frame 62 on dirt webs 64, the upper plate edge 65 reaching a level which runs below the lower edge 66 of the contact rails 60.
The guide frames 62 enclose the electrode plates 61 in such a way that one end of the frame 62 terminates with the upper edge 65 of the plate 61, while the other end of the frame 62 protrudes over the upper plate edge 65 and depending on whether it is is a positive or negative plate, is in electrically conductive connection with the corresponding contact bar 60.
The new arrangement is applicable to both lead and steel accumulator plates or the like.
