Description

Process for the production of shaped structures from sandwich structures
The main patent describes a method for producing shaped structures from sandwich constructions, according to which a sandwich panel consisting of a core made of thermoplastic foam which is provided on at least one side with a solid thermoplastic cover layer is followed in the heat. The deformation is expediently carried out in such a way that the sandwich panels are heated until the cover layers are in the easily deformable plastic state and until the inner cell body layer is slightly heated on the surface, and that the panel is then deformed by slowly pressing or pulling.

It has now been shown that when the sandwich panels are heated and deformed, the gas contained in the foam layer between the cover layer and the foam layer may form bubbles in places, which break the bond between the foam layer and the cover layers. This undesirable phenomenon worsens the properties of the plates deformed in this way to the point that the objects formed are unusable.

The present invention relates to an improvement of the method according to the main patent, which is the production of shaped structures, such as. B.

Boats and bodies, parts of boats and bodies, liquid tanks, barrels, containers, car roofs made of sandwich construction, while avoiding the undesirable formation of bubbles between the various layers forming the composite body.

The method in which a sandwich panel is deformed in the heat according to the method of the main patent is characterized in that a counterpressure is allowed to act on the surface of the sandwich panel during heating and deformation, which is at least approximately as high as the respective gas pressure in Foam.

The sandwich panel is advantageously warmed up on both sides with a counterpressure which, from the start, is equal to or slightly greater than the gas pressure that will prevail in the foam when the deformation temperature is reached.

But you can also increase the counter pressure with increasing temperature and adapt to the respective internal pressure in the foam. The back pressure is preferably by means of a fluid medium, such as. B. a liquid or a gas, transferred to the sandwich body surface.

The sandwich panel is preferably heated from both sides, as a result of which the cell structure of the foam is protected. The deformation of the sandwich panel is then preferably pre-standardized when the cover layers of the sandwich panel have reached a fully thermoplastic state. If necessary, however, the deformation can also begin during the heating process. In any case, during the deformation on the surface of the sandwich panels, the counterpressure, which is at least approximately the same or can be higher than the gas pressure inside the sandwich panel, is maintained.

With regard to the type of sandwich panel (foam, cover layers and adhesive) and the mode of deformation (temperature and mode of operation), the information given in the main patent applies.

   example
In the drawing, a compression deformation device is shown schematically. A sandwich panel 3 is clamped between the flanges 4 and 5 between a foira 1 designed as a hemisphere and a pressure cover 2 designed as a hemisphere. The sandwich panel consists of a core of rigid polyvinyl chloride foam with outer layers of polyvinyl chloride foils, which were firmly bonded to the core with an adhesive made from a copolymer of about 75 ovo vinyl chloride and 25% vinyl acetate.

Now is through the nozzle 6 and 7 under a pressure of about 0.5 Atü. (1.5 Ata.) Hot air and through the valves 8 and 9 the used warm air is carried out and provided by suitable, not shown devices for an even distribution of the hot air on the surface of the sandwich panel, so that the sandwich panel is heated evenly on both sides becomes. Once the temperature of around 1000 C has been reached on the surface of the sandwich panel, the pressure in the mold 1 is reduced to 0.5 atmospheres. held, while in the hemisphere 2 the pressure on 1 Atü. (2 ata.) Is increased. As a result, the plate is pressed into the mold 1 and takes on its shape. At the same time, the air present in the mold 1 is reduced in accordance with the reduction in the air space under a constant pressure of 0.5 Atü. let out.

Then the plate is in any way, e.g. B. by cold air or by water, the z. B. circulated in the mold, cooled.

A curved sandwich construction is obtained in which the layers hold tightly to one another, the formation of bubbles being avoided by maintaining the counterpressure during the deformation on the impression side.
