Description

Process for the production of shaped structures from sandwich constructions
The main patent describes a process for the production of shaped structures from sandwich constructions, according to which a sandwich panel consisting of a core made of thermoplastic foam which is provided on at least one side with a solid thermoplastic cover layer is deformed in the heat. The deformation is expediently carried out in such a way that the sandwich panels are heated until the cover layers are in an easily deformable plastic state, and until the inner cell body layer is slightly heated on the surface, and that the sandwich panel is then deformed by slowly pressing or pulling.

It has now been shown that when the sandwich panels are heated and deformed, the gas contained in the foam layer between the cover layer and the foam layer may form bubbles in places, which break the bond between the foam layer and the cover layers. This undesirable phenomenon worsens the properties of the sandwich panels so deformed to the point of uselessness.

It has now been found that the formation of the bubbles can be avoided if the cover layers consist of gas-permeable material.

The present invention relates to an improvement of the method according to the main patent and is characterized in that at least one cover layer is gas-permeable.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, one or both cover layers made of thermoplastic material are provided with fine holes more or less densely. The cover layer which is not exposed to the deformation pressure is preferably made gas-permeable.

Otherwise, the materials and processing methods correspond to those of the main patent.

This mode of operation allows the gases diffusing from the foam cells during the heating and deformation of the cells to be removed from the bandage zone without damage to the composite structure.

   Examples
1. A sandwich panel is perforated on one side with fine pinholes and clamped in a deep-drawing device so that the side with the fine holes is directed against the mold into which it is pressed by the punch. The SandL wichplatte is z. B. heated by the stamp and then pressed by this into the mold. By resting and pressing the stamp, no bubbles can form on this side of the sandwich panel.

On the other free side, which is pressed into the mold, the overpressure gases produced during heating and pressing can escape through the fine holes, so that no bubbles form.

   2. A sandwich panel provided with fine holes on one side, as in Example 1, is placed in a vacuum forming device and formed by applying the vacuum. Here, too, the side of the sandwich panel with the fine perforation is placed on the vacuum side so that the gases released by the heating and deformation can escape from these holes. On the other hand, on the pressure side, where there is atmospheric pressure, which presses the plate into the mold, which is under vacuum, no bubbles can arise, since the top layer is under pressure here.
